I need to get something totally clear ......

If i get married in florida, i need to go to the court house/office/town hall first before I can do the BIG DAY. When Ive done this, does it mean i'm married already and the officient is just to do something special?

If I understand it correctly, just having the license from the court does not make you married. You actually need the officiant/judge/JOP to sign the license and they won't do that unless you take the most standard of vows in front of them (do you, yes, do you, yes, done).

When you get your license in FL you need to have either an officiant or notary fill it out/sign it after your ceremony. They will mail it in to the court. You're married once it's signed.

If you want to be married by the court house the day you pick up the license then you will have to ask for the "ceremony" to be done there. i think it's a few $$ extra on top of the license fees to get that done.

So, no you're not married if you just go to the courthouse to pick up your license.

Thank you everyone - it's much clearer now:thumbsup2

can anyone advise me which is the nearest court house to visit (I want to see if the website tells you how much it would be)

Im glad I found this post. I am from Canada and just plan on driving down to the courthouse to grab the license. Do I get it that day or do I have to wait? We will be picking it up on the 28th of Dec. For our wedding on Jan. 4th.

Thanks in advance :cool2:

Yes you'll get it tha day and it can be used immediately or you have up to 60 days to have your ceremony.

Thanks, that is what I thought, but better to double check. And we will be using it within the 60 days.
