Are you related to someone famous?

I am related to the Romanovs. My father's geneology can be traced back Czar Nicholas II (the last czar of Russia) and his family (the most famous being Anastasia) . So I like to use that as an excuse for calling myself a princess.

What is so funny about it is, my grandfather was related to royalty but my grandmother is related to a very influential member of the Boshevik party (the ones who killed the Romanovs).

I'm a direct descendant of both Adams presidents. My grandmother was able to trace our family tree back a little further than that, but they are by far the most notable. That also makes me very distantly related to Sam Adams, but unfortunately I get no free beer out of the deal. ;)

We must be related somehow.

My 2nd cousin is Tess Harper. I've never met her, but according to DF she's not a pleasant person to be around.

Nope, the next one after the Mayflower was the Fortune (1621), then the Anne and Little James (1623).
Want useless Pilgrim info? Ask a useless Pilgrim!
But anyway, there were ships that were in Virginia well before those, and New Amsterdam, and Maine, then Boston...lots of ships to claim "relation" to.

Sorry, one of my New Year's resolutions is to NOT CORRECT ANYONE, no matter what they say. I figure that resolution will last all of 5 minutes.

No offense taken, you were right, i looked it up and it turns out the Lion was in 1633.. i guess i ought to know better than to listen to my sister! At least all the other info was true. I actually went to the Denison Homestead in Mystic Connecticut and looked at the genealology books so thats right.
Thanks for setting me straight!

Elvis by marriage. DH's mother's maiden name is Presley and is a distant relative (alas, no free tours of Graceland).:rotfl:

Wyatt Earp.
By marriage (DH's family).

My father's father was a 5th cousin to Dick Clark. No one believes me...not even my DH. But I know that my grandfather told me about it once.

I'll have to get into genealogy and prove it!!

I've got two relations that are actually featured at WDW! On my mom's side is George Corliss, who's mentioned in The American Adventure (in the Philadelphia Expo scene, "and Corliss' magnificent steam engine...").

From dad's side is Gov. Ratcliff of Pocahantas fame, and the star of Fantasmic. I think it's extra cool to be related to a Disney villian!

these are so cool...

I don't really have anyone, lol.

My Grandmother's brother was a professional wrestler in the early days of professional wrestling...he won a few tag team titles. His character, lived on through the 80's WWF though several other people portrayed it.

My grandmother's sister was married to one of the pilots who flew in both atomic bomb missions. He was in the 2nd plane for Hiroshima and the one with the actual atomic bomb for Nagasaki.

I don't know about my DHs side.

My ancestors didn't arrive in the US until after the civil war. Some didn't come until after WWI. I can trace my side to their arrival in America which isn't hard since in all but one case it was my grandparent or great-grandparent immigrating.

I'd like to know more about our Eurpoean ancestry.

I know nothing about DHs side.

Not sure I want to admit this or not, but on my mom's side we are related to Frmr. President Bush and George W.

On that same side, were related to Senator J. Bennett Johnston.

My dad's side isn't famous for anything except there is a Penitentary named after us in England!

William Clark of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. :)
Also related to Roy Clark of Hee Haw Fame (some distant cousin).
Very distantly related to Frederick Miller who started the Miller Brewing Co.

Possibly related to Laura (Welch) Bush. Have some family looking into that connection.

So you and my dh are "related." :)

I'd be curious to know who he was... DH is a huge fan of wrestling and wrestling history.

Oh, and Desiree, its nice to see your Firefly Kareoke again! Ive missed it! I got DH the Done The Impossible documentary for Xmas... havent watched it yet but were really looking forward to it!

oh, and I almost forgot -- I have a cousin who was an extra in Shawshank Redemption (you don't actually see him, but he was one of hundreds of inmates in the yard when Andy arrived at prison)

Wow!! After reading all the Phillipa Gregory novels and everything else I can get my hand on about the Tudors, I have to ask how you are related? He was one he** of a man, and not necesarily in a good way. His wives might as well of gotten their death certificates at the same time as their marriage licences!! Very interesting history. Amy

I will have to ask my grandma on Henry VII -- her dsil trace our whole geneology about 10 years ago.

I know Johnny Appleseed is greatx8 uncle.

I forgot this when I posted originally..but the same uncle who has a band...is the fat guy in the gold suit who is opening the door to the fridge in Alan Jackson's video to "pop a top" he is also in the movie earnest goes to jail hes hard to pick out except for family members who know his shape and how he moves...he was also in Sweet Dreams the movie about Patsy Cline...

Peggy Lee ( of Lady and the Tramp) was my late grandfather's first cousin.

What character was he? I was, and still am, a huge wrestling fan. I'd be interested to find this out.

I used to work with the son of Lou Thesz, who was a wrestler in the 30's - 50's (and even later on).

Henry Comstock of the Comstock lode........I guess he was more infamous than famous though.

well not famous per se but historically important....On my williamson side we directly (through grandparent line)go back to William the Conquer (cha!). In this line we have relatives that fought in the Revolutionary war including time as a POW, that started the Ohio branch of the underground RR, that created the Lakota alphabet and dictionary still used today.
In another branch we go back directly to Sir Issac Newton, John Newton who wrote "Amazing Grace" and his daughter Lucy Newton ( who married into the family) who was the first lady "Lemonaide Lucy".

Lemonaide Lucy Hayes was also the first presidential spouse to be called "The First Lady". Now if I could prove that I'm related to President Hayes, we might actually be distantly related.

Drew Barrymore's maternal Grandmother Dolores Costello was my paternal Grandfather's first cousin. She was married to John Barrymore. We have never met though a few years ago she did a film a few blocks from my home and I tried! My daughter just graduated with an BA in Theater Arts and I hope will be as blessed with talent. She's off to a good start. Dolores is the spitting image of my Mom and Drew is the image of my cousin Patty. I love genetics! The battle against alcohol abuse was peppered throughout also. :scared:
