Are you Proud to be an American?

I always thought the title was Proud to be an American. Is it the same song?

Yes..Definately the same song...It always makes me cry because someone I knew performed it in a show at Canobie Lake Park in 1986..She's the one who died in the bombing of Pan AM 103
God Bless The U.S.A.
by Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.

I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.

That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,

Some might call it cheesy and stupid, I happen to love the song. Every male in my family for generations has served in the Armed Forces, some are still currently serving.

Thanks, Jen. I didn't know the correct title. I guess I thought it was written after 9/11 because they played it a lot afterward.

I'm with you on that! This song makes me cry every single time I hear it. I love this song.

I couldn't be more proud to be an American.

Uggg, Lee Greenwood. I went to high school in the same town where he had hiw theater for a long time. We had to play that annoying song all the time, and he sang while we (the band) accompanied. Not my fave "celeb" we ever worked with.

I'm glad I'm an American. Not proud though, as I didn't do anything to be American, just the luck of birth.

Proud, grateful, thankful.

And honored that I get to wear the uniform of a servicemember.

Very much so, yes. America has always been a nation of freedom and democracy and helping other countries in need. That makes me iincredibly proud. I'm proud of all the things that are uniquely American. When the government disappoints me, which lately is fairly often, the American people usually rally me back around to restore my pride. Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath is a good example of that. My emotions ranged from disgust and disbelief by the government response to intense pride and admiration for my countrymen for coming together when the chips were down. I'm realistic - I don't think this country is without its fair share of problems but at the end of the day its a great place to live.

That was more than a yes or no answer I guess, sorry. :p

As far as patriotic songs, nothing makes me tear up more than America the Beautiful. To me, that song says it all. :goodvibes
