Are you Proud to be an American?

Yes, but I'll change it to a no if I have to start putting those magnetic ribbons on my car or if I am forced to listen to that awful "Proud to be an American" song.

;)

Yes..Definately the same song...It always makes me cry because someone I knew performed it in a show at Canobie Lake Park in 1986..She's the one who died in the bombing of Pan AM 103
God Bless The U.S.A.
by Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.

I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.

That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

And I’m proud to be and American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA

Jenny, YOU BEAT ME TO IT!

Very much so, yes. America has always been a nation of freedom and democracy and helping other countries in need. That makes me iincredibly proud. I'm proud of all the things that are uniquely American. When the government disappoints me, which lately is fairly often, the American people usually rally me back around to restore my pride. Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath is a good example of that. My emotions ranged from disgust and disbelief by the government response to intense pride and admiration for my countrymen for coming together when the chips were down. I'm realistic - I don't think this country is without its fair share of problems but at the end of the day its a great place to live.

That was more than a yes or no answer I guess, sorry. :p

As far as patriotic songs, nothing makes me tear up more than America the Beautiful. To me, that song says it all. :goodvibes

YES, is my answer as well and thank you for putting exactly what I feel, into your wonderful post above.:thumbsup2 Great post and thank you.

I'm not sure proud is the word that fits me as well as the word Thankful :)

I like that song. I liked it before 9/11, liked it afterwards too.

And I love "America The Beautiful" & "God Bless America"" too.

Most of the time absolutely but there are moments that I have been embarassed mostly because of our gov't but also because of how some of my fellow countrymen behave. I don't like the whole "America is the greatest country on earth everyone else is a distant 2nd" behavior.

Not really. I think we (Americans) as a whole are arrogant, self centered, megalomaniacs who think they are better than the rest of the world.
And if i could move i would move. Looking into it actually.

If I felt this way about the country I live in, I would get out and give up my citizenship. I hope you enjoy where you move to.

I agree with Gary M, fiffy. Personally, I feel that your relationship with your country and your countrymen is an important part of who you are. Consequently, if you see your fellow citizens as an arrogant bunch of megalomaniacs, then your happiness would definitely be enhanced by living elsewhere.

As for myself and my answer to the question, yes.

I am, and have always been, proud and blessed to be a citizen of this country. That said, I don't like where this country has gone in the last 6 years, I think we're in trouble if we don't alter course. I often use two words to describe where I think we're going: Roman Empire. :sad1:

A simple yes or no will do. This is NOT a political thread!!!

My answer is yes. I was before 9/11 and I am today! I have always had a flag outside my home, even as a child. I was taught what it stood for and to be proud of it and to respect it.

yes
