Are you having a "Where is LeBron going" party?

Granted most people here (and elsewhere) dont really care, but I have a hard time believing people dont actually know who LeBron James is.

Even if you just know he's a "basketball player", I cant imagine there are that many people that dont know who he is....unless you live in a cave and dont watch / read anything.

Do those that claim to not know who he is know Peyton Manning, Alex Rodriguez, Albert Pujols, Kobe Bryant?!?!??!

Peyton Manning--quarterback for the Colts
Alex Rodriguez--3B, New York Yankees
Albert Pujols--1B for the St. Louis Cardinals, MVP & possibly the best baseball today
Kobe Bryant--LA Lakers

I love sports, I listen to sports radio almost all day, but I have LBJ overload. Can't wait for the next few days to be over.

Guess this is what happens when somebody is willing to pay a guy 100 million dollars to play a game...they start thinking they're important.

I don't care who you are or what you do, no athlete is worth 100 million dollars. Salaries for professional athletes are just out of control. At least the NHL has a salary cap to help keep things in perspective (and some of those contracts are still ridiculous).

actually its not doom and gloom at all, its true! Cleveland cavs suck without lebron, when he is in town people buy the jerseys and cavs appearal because of him, the stores that sell them then stay busy, also like you said bars and resturants make money by having people show up to watch games there.

Also they almost sell out every game which in return means the arena needs to hire more works for concessions, cealning crew, souvenior store etc...

when it comes to playoffs you will have fans of the other teams visiting and where to they shop, stay and eat???? thats all revenue and jobs for the local economy.

I am not a lebron fan at all, but I think its funny when people dismiss the importance of sports and sports players to thier local economy.

I don't know how it is in Denver, but here in Western NY, sports teams cost taxpayers a small fortune. Taxpayers pay for the stadiums & arenas to be built & all the upkeep. The Bills stadium is used 8 times a year, but costs taxpayers a few hundred thousand in upkeep/ taxbreaks. Plus the millionare owners get tax breaks to stay in Buffalo & not move the teams. At least most of the millionare players own homes & pay real estate taxes.

Yes, some bars & hotels make money during football & hockey season, but lots of people don't know if it is a good trade off.

BTW, am I the only one who thought the OP was joking? ;)

all sports have a cap! basketballs cap is higher then nhl so players can make more.

same in denver we tax payers are funding the football stadium, but its a very small fraction and again the economic wave hits more then just owners and players, concessions, cleaning crew, landscaping, up keep of stadium, the roadies and crew memebrs when other events like concerts come thru, parking attendants, etc etc etc, including the taxes that are made off the tickets and food and merchendise

baseball doesn't have one....but the other 3 'main' sports do, with various degrees of success.

there is a cap in baseball and basketball the teams just get penalized a luxury tax for going over it, so its not a hard cap like other sports. teams like yankees and red sox can afford to go over and pay the luxury tax thats all.

Yeah, I think this was a large problem here in NJ too with the building of the new Giants stadium, IMHO it wasn't necessary, the old stadium was nice. All that money and there's no retractable dome or anything. But the state is in such INSANE debt that teachers, policemen/women, EMTs, firemen/women are losing jobs left and right

No, you are not alone.

But, but, but. . .he's KING JAMES! An hour long special on ESPN, really. . .is where he chooses to go really worth all this angst? He's one guy. . .btw, Mike & Mike in the Morning say he's going to Miami with D Wade and Bosch. . .I really don't care where he goes as along as it's far from here so I don't have to hear about him until/unless he plays Detroit. :rolleyes1

ITA. And I'm hoping he doesn't come to Miami. I don't think I could take it. :scared:

theres a basketball except on espn yesterday says hes going to chicago. he picked all the other top players this year where they will go and got them right. if he goes to miami they will be really tough to beat. think of the bulls in the 90's.

Living in Cleveland I just can't wait for this to be over. You'd think he was the next coming the way all the news stations are covering this story.

Although whichever team he chooses we will still hear it around here for months and years to come. I mean they have been talking about his free agency since 2007.
