Are tips expected for dog groomers?

Seriously, I sound like a dingbat but am I supposed to tip the dog groomer? I take my puppy for his first grooming soon & I didn't even think of that until I looked at the other dog grooming thread (which I didn't want to hijack).:)

The grooming will cost me about $60. If a tip is expected, how much?

Thanks!

I am TIPPED with licks and cuddle time...I AM the groomer though, my dog is So cute :lovestruc!!
I used to tip the groomer, but it has been a while....I'd think like 10. should be sufficient.......:confused3

My Mom is a dog groomer and receives tips from some customers. She doesn't expect them but does get them pretty often. She really does pamper her dogs, adds scarves & bows and really tries to please the owners.

I think if they do a good job and treat your pet with respect, then a few dollars is a nice way to thank them.

We were just talking about this- my fiance hijacked the Zoomin Groomers working next door to ask for a nail trim for our dog (she's short haired, so no real grooming needed). It cost $10 and a few minutes ago he asked me if he should've tipped (he didn't). I didn't think so, since it was just a quick thing.

My dogs are hairless so no grooming but I tip when I have their nails clipped.

I don't think tips are expected, but are appreciated. I tip my dogs' groomer. They do a beautiful job, are kind to my pets and let me stay with them during their grooming. One of my dogs is very shy & not very co-operative, so the tips are well earned!

I pay about $65 per dog & generally tip ~20%. I also give them a little Christmas bonus.

Yes... even if they do a bad job. And if you don't tip, they might arrest you.

Oh.
Wait.

Wrong thread ;)

Can we just abolish ALL TIPPING so we don't have to worry if we are supposed to tip the dog groomer, delivery person, the guy that said hi to you walking down the street. I would MUCH rather pay extra for a meal than to have to tip someone.

:worship:

I wish! I hate tipping & wish I could just pay for service & be done with it without having to worry about tipping on top of it!

Unfortunately, until that happens, I'll go with the flow.:)

DD is a dog groomer. Honestly, tipping is something that I never would have thought about until she became a groomer.
When I first asked her about it she said..."You tip your hairdresser so why wouldn't you tip the groomer? Dogs are a lot harder to groom than people." Makes sense to me. She has gotten bit, peed on, pooped on and covered with dog hair. Grooming is a much tougher, filthier job than I had realized. However, DD loves it! She is an animal lover and it is the perfect job for her. Tipping is certainly appreciated and much deserved by dedicated groomers.

I never tipped our groomer when it was just her own business (no employees) but since she's branched out, I do tip now. I left $8 on $50 last time. Honestly, I have no idea if it is good or not.

I too wish all tipping was abolished. It can get awkward.

One of my dogs always went to a grooming shop and I tipped like I would if I was going to the hairdresser. This groomer was fabulous and always worked around my dogs geriatric issues.

I have another groomer for my standard poodle that comes to my house to groom. I don't tip her because she is using my bathtub, grooming table, towels, electricity and 4 hours of my day. She is also fabulous but her pay is complete overhead so no tipping. Plus it costs $90 to groom him - but well worth it.

My dog got groomed yesterday and came home looking just AWFUL. She is a Golden Doodle so there is no standard cut and... well, I don't know what the groomer was thinking.

Luckily it is only fur so it will grow back but the grooming was almost $100.00 and no I did not tip. I explained to the groomer beforehand what I wanted, brought a picture and asked for them to just "clean her up" without taking much fur off (I like the scruffy, puppy cut look).

She's almost shaved down completely.:confused3

I told the groomer that I was upset and was willing to pay the full price of grooming since she was bathed, cleaned, etc and time was spent on her but... I just couldn't stomach tipping.
