Hi all. Planning on doing the wine and dine half marathon this fall. I was thinking about getting one of these so I could facetime my kids while running. Would this be allowed?
No need for snark. runDisney would be the only one to give you a definitive answer, but I agree with @fatmanatee that it may well be considered a selfie stick. The other potential issue is that even if runDisney said OK in writing, any security person could stop you and make you take it off. Probably more hassle than it would be worth.
It’s the same principle, a camera with an arm extension. They also have a costume ban on anything with hard edges. In this case it’s technically not branded a selfie stick and it’s certainly not a costume but the overall message is that they don’t want items with hard edges that might bump into other racers.

I'm assuming that this is going to be your first half? If so congratulations! It's an awesome accomplishment.
I'm a long distance runner whose done countless events so hope to save you some misery while you're out there!
Either of those two neck devices will drive you bat sh*t crazy while you're running... especially the lanyard. Your phone will just bounce around, And I can tell you from experience that those runners around you are not going to want to hear your phone conversation while they're running near you. It's also not a whole lot of fun to try and talk / have a conversation while you're running even at a more moderate pace,
I say enjoy the vibes of a Disney race, enjoy all your hard work that it took to get there, and call your family after and show them your medal!
I'll also point out that the HMs at Disney *start* at 5am, with the very last finishers crossing the finish line at 9:30am. Will your children be awake at that point? I've seen people run with a handheld gimbal to record races (usually with a go-pro type camera) but that's definitely something they have practiced doing. If you want to call your kids during the race, it would be easy to take a walk break and give them a brief call. I'll echo what others have said about the first device more than likely not being allowed (it's a safety hazard for you more than anyone else because trips and falls are not uncommon....a few members on here broke bones this past race weekend! and if you fell with that strapped to your chest.....) The lanyard one would be a very poor choice because it would swing and bounce everywhere.
If you want to use your phone briefly while running, I suggest getting a case with a loop for a wrist strap (this is the one I use for everyday life and running--bonus is that it has a wallet slot on back so you can have ID, CC, and a little cash wherever you go) so you can hold your phone in your hand without worrying about it falling if you get jostled.
I swear by these things for Disney trips since I often have to use my phone in crowds. Also good for taking photos in precarious places, like over water or something.

I did this for the entire SS10 miler so I could facetime with my daughter while she ran on a treadmill in Maryland. I used a DJI Osmo hold my cellphone. It was pretty tiring for sure!! Got to do a selfie with JG and he was able to congratulate her on her "finish"!!! Lol...
