This has probably already been discussed before, but the search feature never works for me.

Are they planning to build more DVC villas around Magic Kingdom? Like BLT w/Contemporary, are thay going to build one for the Poly and Grand?

Not a lot of space in those exact areas. They at least had some room around the CR. Would just involve tearing a lot of it down and making them DVC. Would just make it harder for people to pay cash for them.

Really, I thought there was plenty of room around there. Now I'm gonna have to go to Google Earth and see for myself.

I thought they might just be trying to keep it hush hush until enough of BLT sells, but then again they never finished the other half of the Pop Century and that place is always packed.

DVC is pretty tight lipped about new projects and even when they have announced them years in advance there is always a chance the resort will never open.

BLT was under construction for well over a year before it was finally announced as a DVC property. Eagle Pines was announced as a DVC property and then scrapped in favor of SSR. That property has now been sold to the Four Seasons to develop a fractional resort as well as individual homes right on Disney property.

No announcement has been made about any further DVC development at WDW. Currently, there is a new property waiting for sales to begin at Disneyland and groundbreaking was this week in Hawaii for the Ko Olina DVC resort.

Stay tuned! :)

There was a post few months back with a google earth over lay of how a DVC could fit in existing confines of Poly. Little refurb and small amount of add on at Poly, was a very nice job but can't find the link now.
Poly would be nice but with the construction in Hawaii for the new DVC there would SERIOUSLY doubt anything happening at the Poly now at least for awhile:confused3
But we would like GF as well.:thumbsup2

And although they are building BLT how many more 'people' is it going to add from what CR had there in the first place (kinda goes along with someone asking if BLT will have dining). Will BLT add that many rooms / extra people really?

I dont know the actual answer to that, was just curious.

And looking at the sat view, I guess you could build 'north' of the GF but they would have to be creative and couldnt build 'high' or you could see too much from the MK. Remember, the exposition hall on main street is build 'full size' to block the CR so it doesnt ruin the feel of main street. If you were in adventure land you wouldnt want to see a florida mansion type building IMO, or from frontierland for that matter.

But looking around the Poly, I just dont see any room. Plus you need parking also if you add rooms. The GF would be the only place on the monorail I could see it, but again, people a lot smarter then me build those things :).. I'm sure I wouldve looked at where the empire state building is and said 'you dont have the room to do that'.

There is plenty of room at the Polynesian. All they have to do is move a road about 200 feet, create new parking and turn some of the old parking areas into new longhouses.

My DVC advisor stated when I asked about the other CR tower possibly being torn down to build a DVC tower, he shared that the word is no... it would not have a nice view and amenities are everything. A view of Bay Lake and the back of the CR... MK blocked by CR tower... the BLT is the best of all worlds!:dance3:

Wasn't Walt's original plan to have 5 or 7 resorts around the lake? (Of course they were supposed to be themed after cultures like the Poly, but then they built the Contemporary and GF)

an early concept painting of seven seas lagoon had the proposed Asian Hotel, Contemporary Resort, Venetian Resort, andPolynesian Resort around it

We have a friend who used to work for Disney. According to conversations I've had with him (he told me about BLT a long time ago, before they started doing anything there at all) I think they have "plans" or "ideas" for possibly developing a DVC at the Grand Floridian (they've got enough land there) and there's also a small island somewhere that may get developed into something one day (maybe not far from VWL). I think these are very, very long range plans...probably nothing we will see or hear anything about for awhile yet, but one day, down the road don't be surprised if it happens.

You know wouldn't it be great if they asked all of us what we'd like.

I want more square footage, less kitchen - I mean it it vacation after all.

Since OKW was the first and largest DVC, I'm guessing they decided that more sq footage did not sell as well as more units

What I love about the kitchens is that they provide the tools to having a better vacation.
A fridge to have a favorite beverage on hand, The stuff necessary to make a snack, so I can eat on my private balcony instead of making my way into a crowded restaurant..
actual silverware to eat a snack with. (My last studio trip, I got a ice cream craving, bought a pint of Haagen Daas, and then amused myself watching the studio's plastic spoon bend as it touched the ice cream, then nuked it and had a pint of chocolate milk :( )

In other words, the kitchen makes the rest of the villa more enjoyable. I just do not understand the kitchen haters.

they did that with OKW - it told them a long time to sell it out.

they won't again - they don't have too.

this is just a guess - not based on reality at all.

GF - it has yet to go head to head with a real 4 star hotel much rather a 5 star - really expecting the four seasons to put up a 5 star hotel.

so then GF will have extra rooms - so can definitely see a DVC there - but not any time soon - 10 years maybe - might be longer.

at far as less rooms - don't remember how many rooms were in the north wing - over 300 (don't have the exact figure any longer) - and since lots of DVC members do with less than the occupancy -
studio for one person - with occupancy is 4
1-bedroom for 2 people again 4
2-bedroom for 4 people occupancy is 8

really expecting the BLT to have less guests than the north wing did.

there are quite a few families who stay at the CR who actually pack 5 in a room. (don't think I could stand that). 5 is legal for the CR resort room.

I read that there was/is a soil issue with some of the other proposed sites for other resorts:confused3

Doubt it.

The garden wing had about 250 rooms. At max occupancy that's 1250 (250 x 5).

BLT will have 14 Grand villas for a max of 168 (14 x 12) plus 281 two bedrooms for a max of 2529 (9 x 281). That's a total of 2697 in BLT...about 2.2 times the garden wing capacity.

As for DVC at other SSL resorts, I'm sure Disney has multiple plans tucked away somewhere for both the Poly and GF. But it could be 10...20...30 years before they act on those plans. Rumors of DVC at the Contemporary stretch back at least a decade and we're still 9 months away from its opening.

Walt's original plan was to build an Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow on his Florida land. But when he died in 1966, the plans largely died with him.

Walt's influence on Walt Disney World--which opened nearly 5 years later--was minimal. Left with thousands of acres of land and no guiding vision from Walt, designers basically turned it into a large-scale clone of Disneyland.

Correct. Disney had looked at building another resort between the TTC and Contemporary, but found the land to be unsuitable. Walt Disney World is built on a swamp, so there are limits to what they can accomplish. Whether that will continue to be the case as building technologies evolve remains to be seen.

Adding DVC to the Grand Floridian and Poly makes the most sense in the immediate future. I agree with spiceycat that the GF seems the next logical candidate since Four Seasons is building a five-star hotel on-site.

But I wouldn't discount the possibility of another Contemporary tower, either. I refuse to believe that Disney's long term plans involve keeping the South Garden Wing intact next to the original CR tower and the BLT.

Beyond that, hard telling what direction Disney may go. I think they will always be protective of the monorail line. They don't want to dilute that experience for paying guests by overcrowding. And since DVC owners pay the transportation budget, saving money really isn't an issue.
