Are Studios Bigger than Regular Hotel Rms.

I have been sworn to staying offsite, and guess what happens? The kids want to stay onsite. Next thing you know they'll have me buying DVC. What the heck, we're at Disney every year, anyway. And another thing. My sister wants to come with her two kids, and she wants to stay onsite.

So, here's my question. If just my family wants to rent points to try it out, how big is a studio compared to a regular hotel room? If my sister wants to come, too, what is the square footage on the two bedroom? Thanks in advance.

Studios are 350-375 square feet - right in the middle of the deluxe WDW range - at OKW, they have 2 queen beds, at the rest 1 Queen bed and a couch that converts into a roll away bed

2BR units are about 1075-1350 square feet - OKW units are much larger than the rest - they have a full size kitchen and huge bathrooms as well - the other resorts are not as big but their difference is their locations

Ask away as you begin your DVC journey

A studio is bigger than your average hotel room. It has a microwave, toaster, small fridge and sink. A 2 bedroom is HUGE! It's a studio attached to a 1 bedroom. There's tons of room and closet space. We stayed in a 2 bedroom with our DD and our niece's family of 4 and it was not crowded at all.

DVC studios also have coffee makers, toasters, microwaves and refrigerators...so you save a little $$ by having breakfast in your room.

Thank-you so much for the quick replies. We need the microwave and fridge because my kids have severe food allergies and we bring a lot of food and usually eat a big breakfast in the room. My kids saw the picture of the big clown slide at the BW, and said they really wanted to stay there. We did stay there once in a regular hotel room, but they were too little to use the slide. The room was o.k., but I really missed having the kitchen appliances. The location was absolutely great.

We stayed in a regular room at the Wilderness Lodge, a "deluxe" on-site location. Even the smallest DVC studio is roomier and includes a kitchenette. The 1-bedroom hooks together a studio-sized room in which the kitchenette has been converted to a master bath with jacuzi, and a living room with a sofabed and a small full kitchen. The 2-bedroom hooks that duo together with a studio giving you 2 baths, a jacuzzi, a kitchen and a kitchenette in its 3 rooms. You can get suite accomodations elsewhere on the Disney grounds (without the cooking or jacuzzi), but the price is fearsome. You can sometimes even reserve DVC suites through Disney, again at a fearsome price. Your best bet, for sampling, is to rent points. Or just pinch your nose, close your eyes, and take the plunge into membership! After you've paid your (substantial) entrance fee, which varies by how many points you purchase, your yearly dues can be less than the cost of a night or two in a suite at a Disney hotel.

I'm a pretty careful, step by step kind of person. I think I'll rent points this year and see what I think. Now, to get my sister to make a definite decision and commit to my dates. The other problem is my other sister. When she hears of the trip, I know she will want to come. Oh, the drama, the decisions. Now, I'm getting excited about all the planning. Must give the kids what they want.

Our next trip is in Feb. When would be the best time to try to rent points for a studio, the week before Presidents Day? Probably ASAP.

Just so you know about the studio refrigerators. They are the "large" dormitory size, about 32" tall by about 18" wide. (the "undercounter" type). The "freezer" caompartment is about 4" high x 16" wide and they do not freeze "hard", so no ice cream. They will keep food in a "slighty defrosted" state, but it should keep a few days. The fridges won't hold "a lot" of food, but enough to get you by 1 bedroom and larger units have a full size refigerator, stove, ...a full kitchen.

For best choice of resorts/locations, the sooner the better - BWV is a nice resort

President's Day itself is a fairly busy time

Good Luck

Thanks again for all the great info. The studios sound like a nice size.

They are a nice size. We always stay in a studio (with the exception of our first DVC year). We have two DDs ages 11 and 15 and honestly we don't mind the "coziness". It is just right for our family. And having that kitchenette... is awesome!
