Really, I imagine some advertisers may prefer a happy, bias-free arena, unless they were targeting that sort slug-it-out site. Dis is a travel-related board and that's why politics aren't permitted. Or so I was told.
If the rules have changed, I hope we'll be notified of the change.

The Community Board and the former Debate board were not travel related and they really got out of hand back in the late 2000s, hence the new policy: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2125870
There are lots of political boards if people want to air their differences but this place wants to keep the site happy and welcome, for the most part.
I, personally, am glad they're gone. They became more and more insulting and nasty as the elections grew near and I'm sure the WMs were tired of getting reports.
