Are political threads allowed?

Really, I imagine some advertisers may prefer a happy, bias-free arena, unless they were targeting that sort slug-it-out site. Dis is a travel-related board and that's why politics aren't permitted. Or so I was told. :)

If the rules have changed, I hope we'll be notified of the change.

:goodvibes

The Community Board and the former Debate board were not travel related and they really got out of hand back in the late 2000s, hence the new policy: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2125870

There are lots of political boards if people want to air their differences but this place wants to keep the site happy and welcome, for the most part.

I, personally, am glad they're gone. They became more and more insulting and nasty as the elections grew near and I'm sure the WMs were tired of getting reports. :sad2:

It was pretty well contained and expected in those boards, for me the issue in 2008 was all the political tickers and banners people had that came up no matter what boards they posted on.

The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is now law. Therefore, it is no longer a political issue, in my opinion (though individuals' comments clearly could be political in nature). For those who say that discussion should not be permitted, should discussion of Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security benefits, etc. also be off limits?

I think when ACA has been around as long as Medicare (48 years) , Medicaid, (48 years) and Social Security (78 years) it will have moved from political to non-political discussion. ACA is still a political animal.

There are plenty of laws that are still political footballs...abortion, gay marriage, immigration laws. There are also laws which have been repealed due to political pressure such as prohibition and voter registration laws. Just because something has been signed into law, that does mean that it must be universally accepted by those who oppose it.

Obamacare is still a very political hot button.

Well put.

It's a law. If they don't like it go thru due process to repeal it. The same way it was passed. Don't shut the goverment down just because they didn't get what they wanted. There is a process to repealing a law and it certainly has been used before. this is just a case of I want what I want and I want it right now. To hell with everyone else.

I agree, it is the law.:thumbsup2

And it should be implemented exactly the way it was written.
No exemptions, no waivers and no delays. :thumbsup2

You do realize that the government shutdown is about a dispute over raising the debt ceiling, don't you? As a budgetary law - that's the way it was passed - Obamacare has to be funded just like any other government project. This shutdown isn't about just Obamacare. It's about out-of-control government spending as a whole. However, there are those who would like you to believe that it is only about the healthcare act and nothing else. It makes for better press.

again....it's a law. if you don't like it, work to repeal it by getting the votes to do so. just like every other law that gets passed or repealed. due process.
