Are Camelbaks allowed in the parks?

I have used my Camelbak at WDW two of the four times we have been. I will be taking it on our next trip because we are running the Wine & Dine Half marathon and as much as I like stopping for water while I run (I despise it) I like to finish my run sooner if possible. Haha. As for wearing it in the parks. I fill mine with ice and about 1/4 of water. I get the first go of ice from the ice machine at the resort and then you can ask for just a cup of ice or ice water at the QS eateries and they will give it to you for free. The ice melts at a reasonable pace and keeps your back pretty cool. Sure you can have a wet spot on your back but it's a cool wet spot. :)

As for your autograph book. I would put it in a ziploc bag to prevent it from getting wet if that is a concern. I put my phone in a smaller ziploc bag and have never had an problems.

As stated previously you can wear it on almost all the rides and the rides you can't you can always take any valuables that will fit in your pockets out of them if you feel that it may not be safe.

For a run, a good idea. However, for the parks I agree with the PP who mentioned the free ice water. I take a very small waist pack (not a fashion statement I know). DBF has some pockets in his cargo shorts. Both of us are good on any WDW or US/IOA rides and bag check is so easy. I am able to fold up a string type back bag into my waist pack for things we accumulate or for putting things into for Kali or at US, really wet rides. I also carry ziploc bags for electronics. If you like it though, carry it and add ice. It will keep your back cool and provide needed hydration.

For rides where you sit freely with no shoulder straps or bars like on Stitch's Escape you can wear the backpack backwards, namely against your chest.

Leave out the Gatorade packets or bottles, sipping on that increases tooth decay and also obesity.

Holy Cannoli! Why on earth do you need all that stuff??? [...] We have never needed any of the stuff you carry in the last 20 some odd years of WDW trips.

Wipes ensures that I will always have a restroom clean enough to use and I can fix any state of 'stickiness' that arises without having to alter plans, should the kiddos get into something sweet.

Changes of clothing, shamwow, ziplock bags ... these things are actually pretty light and remove an element of risk relating to wardrobe.

My field med-kit ... ummm ... in-case of emergency and the park staff are under-supplied. Okay, this one is a little less than rational but I have the room and park staff rarely have arterial clamps or suture kits.

Water, like I said, we drink continuously through out the day instead of stopping whenever we notice we are thirsty.

I've tried going naked (no pack) but I didn't enjoy myself at all.

gatorade has about 100 calories per pint, drink one pint or less per hour and you are burning it as fast as you consume it.

The flavor makes getting the sodium you need easier, otherwise you will drink yourself dehydrated.

Thanks for the responses!

Just occurred to me that I don't want any 'sweat' or drips to get on her autograph book...fortunately after hearing everyone's responses I'm realizing I can bring a small backpack with no problems. I didn't want to keep making the DW hold it every time we went on a ride. Leaving her standing there for the thrill rides will be bad enough.

Small? I carried this when we were there.

Camelback pocket and all :) Incuding 2 Disney jr animation autograph books. If I can carry it for miles and miles on the AT, carrying it a few miles a day in Disney isn't a problem :yay:

THIS!!!

Where do yo buy this? I so totally wanted to bring a tactical harness but DIS talked me out of it... but this <cue the angelic choir>

It's a Becker Patrol Pack and it was glorious to carry in the parks 100 oz of water on my back and all the gear I needed for our trip. Waters, moleskin, autograph books, click sharpies, ponchos, etc... easily organized

We did a sort of dry Disney trip to the zoo here in NC, it was hot, humid, and hubby and I had our Camelbaks! It was almost perfect in only that I kept putting my phone back in the pocket and it can't be reached very easily. I actually bought DD 4 her own one, because we noticed she loved drinking water from mine whenever she wanted to, plus, it has little pockets to carry her autograph book, sunglasses, and a small package of a snack of some kind!

I am so excited for our upcoming Disney trip to see how this all works. I already know I will be bringing a bunch of stuff with us, but we have been to enough experience with theme parks when we didn't have a kid, and I remember how much things cost in the park! Plus, having water all the time cuts back on us wanting to buy pop all the time.

My entire family used them a few weeks ago. They were great!! I got ours at Walmart and saved a TON over the Camelback brand. I filled them with ice before the water and they lasted all day. At one point I began freezing them with 1/4 water capacity eh night before but it didn't make a difference in the coldness. They were easy to refill in the parks as well. The only problem is having to go through bag check.

If I'm bag free then how can I carry the first-aid kit, anti-septic wipes, change of clothes for all four of us, 1-2 costumes for each of 2 kids, 2 liters of water, 2 gallon ziplock bag to put stuff in for water rides, shamwow for drying off, and ... and... there must be more.

And by bag-free I assume you mean bag-free except for camera bag. I mean ... totally bag free, that's just crazy.

I know, I have issues. Perhaps in a former life I was a donkey.

:rotfl: Perhaps that is the case. So a shamwow for drying off? Tell me more. Do they really help that much?

We bought DS a small kids Camelbak to take to Europe this summer on our Disney Cruise. We bought it very early though so he could get used to it. He ended up taking it to Disney twice and it worked out great on all the trips. He had water whenever he needed. We would also fill with ice and water in the am, then refill later in the day.

It was a fantastic solution and gave him ownership of carrying his stuff.

:thumbsup2 sweating you don't just lose water of COURSE you had the perfect answer I ALWAYS bring Gatorade or G2 too

For those of you who say get a free cup of water instead, you do not understand one of the purposes of a camelbak. Putting ice, ice water, cold water, in the cambelbak, then on your back, actually keeps your spine cooler which tricks your body to think you are not as hot as you really are. Thus you are move comfortable and cooler walking around the park with a reduce chance of heat stress. This is why camelbaks are long and skinny and go up against your spine.

We used one of the CamelBak's, the mule style I believe. It has a couple different pockets in addition to the one that holds the "bladder." This was a first trip stroller free and it was the BEST thing we ever brought. I was hands free and DH carried the pack the whole time. It was nice because their are clips to tighten the pack and DH was able to bring his mug from the hotel with coffee and just attach it to the outside. It was also helpful when DD was tired of wearing her hat. It was great and we could fit everything we needed in there.

Just make sure you clean it out really good when you get home. I need to replace the bladder and hose on mine now.

Sorry, my body just isn't that stupid that it can be tricked into thinking that the remaining 90+% of my body that doesn't have ice next to it is chilly. :rotfl:

Oh, and just for everyone's information...like the obesity thing, in a way, anyone that wanders into the park and walks around all day with a supply of water on their backs...immediately cancels out any ability to criticize anyone for using a fanny pack. On a list of one to ten with one being that coolest look available, fanny packs are a 10 and camel-backs are 15. Silliest looking things I have ever seen. I could tell you what they remind me of but I would be roundly scolded due to the family nature of this board.

Then there are some scientists that will want to speak with you! It is a common phenomenon, like how dipping your feet in water cools your body. It cools the blood flowing through the area (even by fractions of a degree) which in turn provides relief to your body.
