AQR (Attraction Queue Return) Usage Reports

I had the DAS for 14 years since I was 8. I tried to renew it after the change and got denied. The Cast Member told me, "I have ADHD and didn't, so you shouldn't qualify either," even though I have Asperger's and OCD, which are different. Anyway, I tried again last night to speak to a coordinator to try and get it again, and they told me that once a decision is made, it can't be changed. I was given in-park accommodations, which I tried to use with my family. My family went to wait in the line while I waited outside, which was kind of sad since it was my cousin's first time going, and I wanted to spend time with him. We were only able to ride four rides when normally we ride so much more. Later in the day, I tried a ride alone to see how it would work alone since I go alone a lot. I told the person about my accommodations, and the two Cast Members told me the line wasn't long (45, 35, and 40 minutes) and that I should be able to wait perfectly fine. To be honest, being told that I could wait in those lines fine was rude to me. I know what I can and can't do, and being told that I could wait in a long line with no problem is messed up to me.
Thank you for the share.

Questions.

Did you ask the CM if your cousin could wait with you while the rest.ofnthe party waited in line? If so, sid they deny this request?

Did you try the line and have to exit after some time and engsge.with the CM again?

Those are points and results where you can cite back to the accessibility team.if.you wish to.seek a reassessment of DAS accommodation.

This.

Again, this forum is.pretty well balanced viewpoints and common goal of getting folk to go.

There's a place for full throated advocacy. This.isnt it.

This forum has been invaluable to our family, as we have a number of family members with disabilities. Thanks to the many tips and ideas, we've been able (with the exception of my sister) to visit the parks without needing DAS, and with the availability (and the formalization) of AQR, she won't be requesting DAS in the future.

So many other sites I've engaged with simply said "ask for a DAS, your (fill in the blank family member) has a qualifying disability, but to us, DAS seemed like overkill for us.

I'm very appreciative of the way @lanejudy and @SueM in MN run this place, even when they've needed to chastise me on occasion.

I agree that it was 100% wrong for the CM to tell you what you should/shouldn't be able to wait...I am confused however as to why you were able to ride so many fewer rides.
Because with the DAS at least we could go into the lightning lane and not have to wait in the regular line, for Cosmic Rewind and Tron the regular lines were forever and kept getting pushed back, with the DAS they would put you in lightning lane

Thank you for sharing.

Yes, I did, and they told me that since he doesn't have the accommodations, he has to wait in the regular line and can't wait with me. I get nervous easily, so I couldn't wait and then talk to the same Cast Member because I had thoughts that they would tell me there is nothing they can do. I hope I can get the DAS again because that is how I could enjoy Disney.

I thank you for your input. I know the answer. I was replying that to THAT particular poster because of their ableist tone.
My apologies if the comment sounded ableist. I was responding to a particular comment about parties staying together vs being separated.

The fact is the AQR accommodation splits parties, regardless of the reason for leaving the queue. It does allow for a caregiver, and typically the rest of the party remains in the queue. AQR is available to all guests, with or without a disability.

Did you try asking about AQR for these rides? I assume they would allow it but I haven’t heard any reports.

Has anybody else heard of anybody using AQR for the VQ rides where they used to turn VQ into a LL?

I'm sorry that they said that. Definitely mention that if you call to request DAS again.

If you go again,.I would try again with the entrance.CM with specific.inquiry that you.may have to exit line and need an addendent to assist you with your disability need to help mitigate your anxiety flare, and ask how the two of you are.to rejoin the party when you return to queue. Hopefully they should be giving you a reasonable.accommidation to that request.

What a dishonest thing to suggest!

Not wanting to wait alone is NOT the same as requiring assistance waiting outside the queue. Your comment is actually disgusting to me. You are encouraging lying to say what the CM needs to hear to get the result someone wants. Which is the exact same as the DAS abuse.

Chill out.

You don't believe a companion can help mitigate ocd and anxiety flares? Nothing dishonest about that.

I think at best you are projecting on OP. OP said: "My family went to wait in the line while I waited outside, which was kind of sad since it was my cousin's first time going, and I wanted to spend time with him." That does not imply in any way that they cannot wait alone, or that it is more difficult to wait alone, just not as pleasant. Lying for preferred accommodations is a mark of a scummy and disgusting human.

I have no idea what state the PP is in. If a companion can help.mitigate the anxiety and ocd that's preventing him rejoining the queue then absolutely an option to request and advocate for adequately. If not.then don't. It's an option to inquire if the situation fits. Making folk aware that it's an option if true...
Nothing more.

Have a little grace

They did ask the CM if someone could wait with them. CM said no. OP accepted that answer. For some reason, you are offering phrasing designed to bully the CM into getting another answer. Your suggestion sounds like telling the CM: "hey, this is what we're doing," not asking the CM, plus using the word attendant has a different connotation. It's disingenuous.

If the pp doesn't present the situation correctly, the cm can't assess it correctly. I did not say demand either, so stop misrepresenting that.

If the pp has ocd and anxiety and person in party can help mitigate that issue and allow for rejoining the party to allow riding the ride, then that's an appropriate accommodation.

It is unclear to whether that was the situation.

If you think one shouldn't advocate for themselves if when they have a disability preventing them from accessing an attraction, we have an issue

I am unsure where this is coming from - the OP did rejoin & ride, per their first post. They got an appropriate accommodation which allowed them to ride. They just would have preferred to wait with the cousin.

Advocating honestly for oneself (or a member of one's party) is great!
Exaggerating, lying, or demanding to get what you want is not okay. There is no difference between that and someone who says "what do I have to say I have in order to get DAS?".

I did not say "demand" before but your phrasing using "need" inappropriately twice, calling someone an attendant/caretaker when they are not, and asking "how the 2 of you" rejoin is indeed demanding. Your post comes across as "here are the words to say to get what you want."

Pp lamented how his disability wasn't being taken fully into account and negatively impacted his ability to get on rides at all. That's loss of access.

The pearl clutching started with you.

AQR, whether be 1 or 100, has no impact whatsoever as it is a rejoin, so the outrage really is perplexing

OP had an issue getting on rides alone when they tried to see how that would go, since they frequently go alone. That is a valid concern, but totally unrelated to your post.

OP said nothing about not being able to ride with AQR with their group. Just that they rode less than with DAS. Primarily due to DAS allowing them to use the LL for the VQ rides... which really is unequal improved access for DAS users in the first place.

Maybe you misread the OP's posts?

I have an issue with anyone encouraging dishonesty.

Perhaps I did. I err on making sure a person with disabilities truly has had their situation assessed. Too often disabled folk are marginalized without knowing what they should be asking for.

Also perhaps you've misread mine poste and intent to advocate, not intend for dishonesty.
