April, May, June AP Watch. Let's Get it Started

I did not mean to start a debate and I'm sorry if my words seemed harsh. I just want everyone to get the deal and resort they want. If it wasn't for this board I would not have been to WDW 5 times in 2 years. I just want to make sure we are not burning ourselves in the end. Good luck to everyone!

The winter months are usually disney's slowest so they can afford to give tons of discounts and that's why people flock. You can get Deluxe resorts for $129/night and sometimes cheaper. I don't know where you got your facts from and you may be right about last quarter being a successful one but take that with a grain of salt. For example, if Disney on lost 4 millions dollars last quarter compared to losing 15 million the previous quarter....it's it really a successful quarter...depends how you look at it.
You can't argue the fact that tourism as a whole isn't what it was before sept 11th.
These AP rates have been going on for years and of all time to stop this isn't it.

I have a question. I thought if you apply a new discount to an exisiting reservation they charge you $50. Or is that on packages only?
Please enlighten me.

I don't know about the pacakges.....but, I don't think it's true for regular "room-only" reservations.

I made reservations 2 weeks ago for Pop Century. I spoke to a CM named Wallace. At that time, I asked if there were any discounts available for AP holders or for the general public.

Wallace told me that no discounts were available at that time. He said that if I did find out about any discounts, just to call CRO and tell them I already have a reservation and I'd like to add a discount.

He said many people in this situation try to call in and make new reservations and then cancel their old reservations thinking they can't just add the discount to an existing reservation.

He said it's makes it easier for them and alot less time consuming if you just call and tell them up front that you want to add the discount code to your reservation. If it's available, they'll add it.

He didn't mention anything about any additional charges.

No, HaleyB, there are no charges if you apply a discount to a reservation. What you could be thinking is that if you have a package and want to apply a room only discount code, you need to cancel the package booking and rebook as a room only. If you do this after your cancelation deadline, they do charge you a fee for canceling. I think it is 45 days before your trip, but since I book room only reservations I'm not sure about this date.

Ddank, yes, I understand that you don't mean people like me who need specific rooms for specific dates, especially since AP rates don't apply to some of my rooms. I just meant that some people might have to book early for these reasons too. I totally agree though that if you have no intentions of staying at a resort unless an AP rate comes out, then you probably shouldn't book a stay there well in advance, with holiday or peak times being exceptions. For our May trip, I am arriving a day early with a friend and we plan to stay at PC for the first ngiht before moving to our already booked 2 bedroom suite at the GF. I have not booked this night at PC yet, however, as I will be happy at an All-Star if PC is booked by the time the codes come out. Typically, in situations like this, we wait to book till the codes are out.

I'm not sure how much of a difference this makes in releasing codes, however, since someone pointed out that the general public doesn't always know codes exist. These people, I imagine, book months in advance, well before codes are out, simply because they don't know anything about codes and discounts. Also, michaela mouse, you can't compare how far in advance your parents had to book when you were younger, unless of course you are referring to the past 8 years or so, since when I was younger Disney only had a few resorts, so yes, you would have to book very far in advance in order to get any room on Disney property. Even in 1987, however, we were able to switch Disney resorts once we were there and it was during peak season (mid-March) and got a tower room at the CR with a MK view for 10 nights without a problem. Now that they have many resorts in many price ranges, booking years in advance is no longer necessary as long as you don't have to stay at a specific resort.

Well, we are waiting on the AP codes also. I have been plalying around in our profile and I can NOT figure out how to get a countdown clock. PLEASE HELP me?

Just called CRO to check, nothing out. I passed on making my reservation, I'm going to wait until I see a discount. No reason to have to send off a $507 deposit.

you know, every time one of these AP watch threads is started there are always posts that say "we'll never get them. The hotels are full, attendance is up. Face it, no codes for us." MOST of the time, the AP rates do show up.

Looking at the historical trends chart at Mousesavers, there have only been 8 time periods in the last 2 years that did not have AP rates available. Of those 8 time periods, one was for peak season with no other codes listed, 3 were holiday season (twice Christmas week and once for 2 days over Thanksgiving), once was during the Fairy Tale package where several resorts were sold out due to the popularity of the package (Disney Club and Disney Visa were also offering package deals during this time) and for the remaining 3 time periods there were room only discounts available to everyone during that time so it's not like there were NO codes available. Of the 5 non-holiday periods, 3 of those blocks of time were very short time periods; 2 of them were for only 3 days and one was for 2 weeks. So the odds are VERY MUCH in our favor that codes will come out. Fact is, they aren't guaranteed so it's possible that they won't but the odds are in our favor that they will.

For anyone interested the dates w/o AP codes were:
2/14/02 - 4/20/02
9/30/02 - 10/2/02 -- room only codes available to everyone
12/25/02 - 12/31/02
2/13/03 - 2/16/03 -- room only codes available to everyone (I didn't count this as holiday even though it did span Presiden't Day)
4/10/03 - 4/27/03 -- room only codes available to everyone
8/24/03 - 10/1/03 -- Fairytale Package, DC and DV offering package discounts
11/25/03 - 11/27/03 -- Thanksgiving
12/26/03 - 12/31/03

Lollipop Mom ~ thanks for "doing the research" and sharing it with the rest of us. It gives us all something to hope for! I have reservations at AKL and I would love to get a great rate. So lets all keep our fingers crossed;)

(When you look at this forum everyday, I think you get the false impression that "everyone" is here.)
WHAT......you mean there are "others" that go to WDW??!!:scared1:
It isn't just us here on the DIS!!!! :earseek:

Maybe they will come out today, just to contradict the friday the 13th thing!:)

To tell the truth I hoped they wait until tomarrow, because I have to be gone all day today.
If I miss these codes after waiting all winter for them I think I might go alittle crazy:crazy:

One poster reports that the WDTC computers are down this morning.

As I recall, this happened when the last round of codes went in.

Mere Coincidence?

Are they always out first thing in the morning or do they sometimes come out later in the day? If someone calls around 7:00am and told nothing yet, is it safe to assume that they won't be out before the next day?

Beth

If I remember correctly, last December they started to slowly come out during the day and some people were lucky enough to get them early before they were supposed to be advertised. The next day everyone was able to book successfully. Maybe they will start leaking out tonight. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!!

You all are giving me hope for May AP rates! This board is so much fun! Hope no one comes over my house because my house cleaning time has been dedicated to the DIS AP watch! lol

Oh well...going to Disney or a clean house!! I Choose...Disney! lol

Luckily when my husband comes home I can say Disney made me do it and all is forgiven!:wave2:

Called again (that's twice today--my hopes were high!) but still no codes, and no one has any idea when they're coming. The CM was also completely unfamiliar with the Visa deal.
