April "Fool"ing around with the Goofs

Well, my legs are still heavy, but I got in a decent 4 mile run today, at close to my normal cruising pace. Still need to update the spreasheet though.

I got in 1.5 miles last night. I forgot my time though. 24 minutes maybe. I got to try out my new sneakers though and had to be creative with the nike+ transmitter since I forgot to buy a pocket for it. The new sneakers are New Balance. My feet feel good today (aside from the normal aches and pains that I had before the new sneakers). Hopefully I'll be able to start having less pain now that I have sneakers that fit better. Or at least my toes won't be so ugly.

W4D1 is up next!

I know I haven't been around too much with posting. I check in with everyone every day though, I just don't usually have time to post. I'll make sure that I update the spreadsheet too!

Megan, good for you for re-starting C25K! I probably should have done that after the half, instead of slacking for weeks and weeks.

I got in a little over 3 miles in 40 minutes during DS's baseball practice. My left ankle felt iffy (time for new orthotics and/or shoes, I think), so I took a LONG walk break in the middle. I got back to b-ball, and it was SO dull to watch, I ended up stretching for a while and then running another ten minutes just because it was better than shivering and watching him practice (bad mommy!). So all told, 4.01 miles in 50 minutes.

My "official" training period begins on May 2, and I'm still trying to find a good plan for doing the DL Half followed by my first-ever marathon a mere 18 weeks later. I'm getting nervous that I'll injure myself during the half like I did in January, so I hope I'll be mentally able to treat the half like a "long run" rather than a race once I get there. I can't afford to take much time off after the half, so I know I need to take it easy and not push myself. Any other suggestions?

PS: I think this is as close to "going Goofy" as I'm going to get. I don't know how you people do it! :)

Hi All-
I got the website set up so if anyone wants to donate to the Semper Fi Fund they are more than welcome!
I thank you in advance!

I have been crazy busy. Poor Seamus is almost back to 100%. I was able to ride him in a jump lesson. Not sure what was up with him but we had 3 runouts at the last minute. I lost my stirrup when he dropped his shoulder and ran out then he went bucking and galloping across the ring- three times! I finally got my confidence back and he had to be crazy! I guess he has spring fever like we all do!

We are leaving for Disney in 10 days. The girls have no idea! Any good ways to surprise them?

And I just booked a cheap ticket to FL to run RFTT with my BIL and niece. Satying at OKW on their points. Using up old park tickets, so this is pretty budget actually. Sister will be cheering. Suzanne We're headed your way!

Can't wait to see you Maura! I'll be signing up for RftT soon.

Great job to everyone, lots of time and miles being posted.

I just started a marathon training program and noticed it's a pretty big step down to start. If you start on week 1, it should be a lot easier than what you built up to for the half training. You can gauge how you feel with if you should start on week 1 or not.

Most training programs have a two week (or so) easy program for immediately following the race so that should give you some time to ease back in to it as well. Best of luck!

Shan - Good luck getting over the rut. Hopefully it is just mental. I know I'm going through something and I just don't feel right out there. It seems much harder than it should. Take care!

Megan - Great job! Let me know if your Nike+ ever goes out on you. I had one and loved it. My Nano unfortunately didn't make it more than a couple of months after I bought the transmitter. I wish it worked for the Shuffle or Video. If you ever lose yours, let me know and I'll be happy to send the two pieces to you.

AFM, I'm out of town right now but just ran 4.17 miles in 35 minutes on a neat little trail. It was all concrete and very hilly and was pretty hard for me. It is also about 20 degrees warmer here than at home and I'd definitely not used to it!

Thanks for the advice, Steve. Good job on your run tonight. I just ran around the lakes in my office park for the first time. It was entirely sidewalk, which made it tough. I had my Garmin, but I guess I failed to push the button when I thought I did. I caught the mistake 5-7 minutes into the run, so I put my best guess on the spreadsheet. I'm a little upset because I really wanted to know just how far the office park loop really is. I don't think any of my coworkers have clocked it yet!

They opened the pool, so I got there for my lunch hour...got in 2900 yards, and just finished up a 17.something mile bike ride.

I'm sure I hear a tumbler of Scotch calling me somewhere...

Take care goofs!!!!

Mike

Happy Thursday or post-tax day!!! :woohoo:

Cecelia, I would say ditto to what Steve said. I have 3 today, 8 tomorrow, 14 on Sunday and then 6.5, 3 and 3 until the race. My 6.5 is supposed to be on Tuesday but since we fly that day I will get it out of the way on Monday and take a rest day (except for walking around Nashville) on Tuesday. So my vote would be 12 either yesterday or today.

Hopefully I can get to a Whole Foods Market in Nashville and find some coconut water. It is my new favorite post run drink!! The cooler offer is awesome, thanks. PS How big is the bridge in Nashville? I have bridgeophobia...:scared1: Sad but true.

Mike, sorry about the pool thing. You would think they would give their recurrent patrons a little heads up on the pool closing.

Kim, I do that all the time!! :headache: Usually, I shut it off when it takes me a long time to cross the road or something and totally forget to turn it back on. :sad2:

Yay for you Maura! :yay: Glad Suzanne will have some more company this year. It looks like I am off until possibly February of next year. No I am NOT happy about that...:snooty:

Everyone else, :grouphug: all around!!

I have 3 on for today with hill repeats. Hair appointment, softball practice and a birthday dinner for DH's great aunt's 93rd birthday. :scared: Seems far away yet not so far. DH is on a kick that his pants are getting too tight and I look so good and he is getting old and fat. Wow, I thought it was just eomen...:rolleyes1 I told him he had a whole week to spend with me and I would make sure he ate right. So now I have to eat right...popcorn:: Darn it...

Super Stupid busy again today.

Got in a 6.25 miler, 1:03:12, very little knee pain, gained 2281 feet in 6 miles...I don't know if thats considered hilly or flat...seemed pretty flat, but that pace is really about all I can do right now.

Still have an hour swim on tap for today...like I have any idea how to fit THAT in.

stay active Goofs!!!

mike

Lisa, DH's new fav drink is also coconut water! He drank it often training for his full he just did.

Maura, forgot to tell you congrats on getting the RFTT trip together! I love going to WDW in October - F&W, MNSSHP and the BEAUTIFUL October weather! :yay:

Mike, glad you got your swim in!

Hi All -

Well, I ended up running a mean 10 miles today. I say mean, because my legs were tired by mile 6 and really dead at 8. If I had felt strong, I would have done 12 but I decided 10 was enough.

Lisa - Let me know if you need me to run by a whole foods for you. I can't believe you are running 14 this weekend, thats alot with one week to go. I'll have to look, but I usually stick to 10 that close to the race.

Mike - I hate it when they close the pool with no warning! Glad the knee is still handling the runs without too much pain! Thats awesome. Enjoy your Scotch.

Maura - I am with Shan, I love Disney in October. Its just about perfect.

Kim - I always start a plan where I am. So if the mileage is lower than what you usually run, stay with what you are already doing until the plan catches up. Its amazing to me that they can make a machine that measures your run from space but they can make it turn on automatically when you start moving!

Joanne - I am so impressed that you could keep that a secret from your kids! I think I would send mine on a scavenger hunt and each stop would have a clue.

Take care all!

Cecilia

How can it possibly be that I am the first Goof posting this am! Well, Happy Friday all. I managed to get into the pool this am. Finally bought new goggles, and will have to make an adjustment since I have the worst goggle eyes right now! At least my glasses cover up most of it.

Swimming again either tomorrow or SUnday along with another run. And today here it is supposed to hit 70-yippee!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Maura

Sorry Maura, I am a little late. Too much on my mind lately I guess...:sad2:

Today it is supposed to be in the mid-60s here. :woohoo::yay::dance3: I have on my running skirt and shirt that I plan to race in. Add on the belt and pack and an 8 mile run test drive on this gorgeous day. I won't have another chance unless I run inside...:scared: and we all know how I love that so..:rolleyes1 I am getting pretty excited to say the least.

Cecilia, I am following the Runners World plans that they had out last year. I think you can still access them on the site. They were keeping a high miles base and then training in 4 weeks for a race. You have to up the LR miles incrementally before starting the marathon plan. I did change it up a bit after talking with a woman who has run Boston numerous times. I was supposed to do 22 last week according to the plan and she advised no more than 20 two weeks out so I did listen to her, no really I did. I figure I will strike out and as long as I make 10 good solid miles it will be enough but if I feel really really good and want to do the 14, I will. The plan calls for 14-16 so at least I am going with the lesser miles...right...:upsidedow

I do plan to hit the Whole Foods Market. It looks easy enough to find. I want some fruit and healthy snackage in the hotel so I don't make bad choices. DD14 and DH started a weight challenge today seeing who can lose 10 pounds in a month. My bets are on DD! I just need to make sure she is eating and not skipping meals in order to win. I don't know where she gets her competitive nature from...:confused3

So packing, 8 miles, softball scrimmage, and who ever knows what else will come up this afternoon! I am hoping to get all laundry taken care of and bags packed by Monday so I can work and get my run in and then relax. We have to decide whether to drive down and stay in a hotel or get up at 2 in the morning and drive to the airport. Guess which one the kids vote for???

What a beautiful day!
I waited too long to go run, though! :rolleyes1 :lmao:
I definitely got overheated.
Ran 3 miles and it was brutal. I had to take 3 one minute breaks. Time was 34:07. I'm trying not to get discouraged and still keep the Disney Full in my mind... I have promised myself I will make the decision by June.

Got DH's Fond Memories shadow box today from his first full he did last month. It came fast and is beautiful! I guess I need to order his ASI pic for it now. :rotfl: I really thought it would take forever to get here!

I'm trying to tell myself if I run the Disney Full I can get one to put up beside his. ;)

Have a great weekend my friends! :grouphug:

Did 35 miles on the bike today in two hours...could have gotten in more miles in the same time, but the guys I was riding with weren't feeling the mojo.

Got off the bike and did a brick run of 1.25 miles.

Kinda tired now...

Have an awesome weekend kiddies!

Mike

A picutre perfect Staurday here! I just cam back from an hour long dog walk, then off to help at DS track meet, then need to do a swim or run.

Have a good Saturday, everyone.

Maura

Hey Goofs!

I have to confess that I let everyone on the team down today. I still did my run (faster than I intended, but it just felt so good to move fast again that I couldn't resist!), but I did not check the time before I did the yardwork today.

Sure, it may not count like much exercise to remove a hedgerow (11 bushes, though I still have to cut the stumps out), hauled 400 pounds of sand around (to fill the new sandbox), and cut up a bunch of brush left over from the end of last summer and fall, but I probably should have glanced at the clock before I started that stuff.

It was a nice day here so I attempted to repeat my recent trail race through the forest. Of course I got lost and ended up making up my own course. Being a guy, I was much to proud to ask anyone for directions so I just zipped along as if I knew where I was going.

I did 3 really difficult and steep miles in 35 minutes but it felt great. I've got a rest day tomorrow (I'll do some yoga and strength training) and will have my long run on Monday.
