April 6th dcl announcement
May be time to start looking elsewhere....kids are 17 and 14 so may find cruising on another line more exciting with new things to see and do. But we love cruising with DCL so much we may feel like a traitor :goodvibes
Hey there ole' MR cruisemate! Our kids are now 15, 13, and 7 and we giving RCCL Oasis of the Seas a try this June. Love Disney but really want to try out the new ships out there. Kind of felt like a "traitor" too but at least we are staying 2 days post cruise at WDW.

Itineraries for 2012 don't sound too exciting to us either. May book for Alaska 2012 and see how the Disney Alaska reviews come in this summer.

That's what I'm dreaming of for my 50th BD celebration!

Looks like we will both be celebrating our 50th BD aboard the magic. It is also my 25th wedding anniversary so lots to celebrate. Cannot wait to book! We are thinking 5 night Canda...plus maybe a 2 night adult getaway!!
Would like to also know what is happening with the Wonder at Christmas time and the weeks in between before Alaska and after Hawaii....
Before Alaska the Wonder will be doing the Mexican Riviera cruises those have been out for pricing for quite a while

Congrats!!!!

We are celebrating our 20th this year on a cruise to Bermuda with NCL.
My son will be turning 21 next July so we are thinking DCL is the way to go that time around :) (cruising in May, I hope, if all goes well tomorrow and Thursday when I book) hehe...

Will this new port only be for 2012 or will this announcment also state where it will be in 2013 as well?

My fingers are crossed that NY (or any Northeastern port) will be a homeport. With airfares rising and rising, it is getting cost prohibitave to fly to a port. Usually the NY/Baltimore iteneraries aren't as great, but as a fairly new cruiser, it isn't a huge deal to me, and the $$$ saved on air is awesome...not to mention cutting out the stress of needing to get a hotel the night before, worry if there will be a flight delay, etc.

Hi Piglets Mommy...I'm PigletsMomma!

Yes ,with airfaire costs rising... I agree with you making NEast a homeport.. but at $1200.00 per person for an inside room, is it really cost efficient?

A family of 4 is almost $5000.00 ... and to the Bahamas?

With the Vancouver Port - the ship is definitely going the Inside Passage up and down. It'll be interesting to see if they do that with the Seattle Port.

Most likely it'll be the Inside Passage up and the Westcoast of Vancouver Island back down to come into Victoria. It'll also most likely be hard to get a straight answer out of DCL. They took so long to confirm that they were doing the Inside Passage both ways for 2011.

What's the best day to follow today's announcement via internet?? Can someone give me a link? Will it be broadcast, or do I wait until someone summarizes it on the DIS?
THANKS!
Can't believe it's today :cool1:

Wish I could help you - I'm just around lurking for the next few hours :)

I'll run my errands and come back and see if anything is announced.

"Most likely" the Wonder will sail west of Vancouver Island both ways - just as the majority of ships departing from Seattle do.

I believe it is much more expensive for ships to take the "inside passage" between Victoria and Vancouver and, from what I've heard, only a limited amount of ships are allowed to take that route (I think due to pollution).

When we cruised AK on NCL, we left out of Seattle. The seas were so rough that the ship had to take the inside passage up. On the cruise before ours, apparently entire shelves of alcohol fell down and broke. I remember lots of talk about much the cruise line got dinged for that change in course. On the way back down, we cruised outside and everything on the ship was bolted down and secure. Even then, it was a pretty rocky ride.

Does anyone have a link so I may watch the announcement??

I'm in the NY area, but unsure where to watch... thanks! :)

I agree, was on alaskan cruise that went around Vancouver Island. The first night seas were rough, there was a noticeable difference when we turn in after rounding the island. But, it was only the first night of the cruise. Coming back was better, we had got our sea legs.

Just wondering how gold CC members will be among the first to hear. Will there be a 20-second delay if you're silver or below? :rotfl2:

How many cruises do you need to be a gold member?
