April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Wonder to Hawaii- who is with me?

I know that when I ordered a personalized shirt from Disney (keep in mind this was their own company), they were very particular about not just images but wording. They made me change the wording 3 times. Things like it had to spell our Disney Cruise Line it couldn't say DCL etc. Although I really appreciate all the work that is going into this, and it would be very cool to have these, I'm concerned that the fact it is a retail shop selling the shirts and not individuals making their own t-shirts that could put the company in jeapordy for a lawsuit.

Of course I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV either! ;) So, I may be concerned over nothing.

I wonder if Disney would even really pay much attention. It's not like this will be a mass produced product that will be sent to every Wal-Mart around the world. They are a one of a kind and cruise specific, so I really don't see the harm in it. We are just a bunch of Disney/Disney cruise fans who want to have some fun and look good doing it. The production of these shirts is not going to make anyone a millionaire because they used an image of a Disney character. But, this is just my thought and opinion.

2 years ago, I got married on the Disney Wonder. We wanted to have mugs made up with a design that had Mickey and Minnie; our names and date of the weddings. Many advertising companies refused to do it. We went to Disney Copyright and explained that we weren't selling them just giving them us gifts to our guests. We had to send them pictures of what we were doing. After a few weeks, and many phone calls they told us we could do it through Zazzle. I figured if Zazzle was okay, then I could go anywhere and I found someone to do it. We even gave the mugs out on the ship to crew members. It has to do with giving something as a gift vs buying. If you ordered the shirts; we buy the shirts and wear it on the ship and other places, it's advertising for them. I doubt that they would 'take the shirt off our backs' :rotfl2:

I love the first design. To me, it looks Hawaiian. My husband would wear it with the pink without thinking twice about it. Val, great job.

If I understood what you were suggesting, I took the green and brown portion and made it the primary print. Then the part with the lettering I have as just a border that would go at the bottom of the shirt. Maybe, if we ask for a pocket, we would want it on that too.

Ohhhh LOVE this one!! Like it vertical as well but don't take away the characters!! :scared1:
IMHO.... don't ask... don't tell...... Buy the shirts now and apologize later... it is the company's responsibility not ours. It is a custom made item for us only.... they are not going to sell the design to anyone but us so I wouldn't worry about it and go for the gusto!! Of course as a lot of you know... I am a troublemaker...
;)

if you can add me to the list. the roommate and me w/ pal mickey will be on the ship for Hawaii:yay:

Welcome!!!

I like the brown and green with the horizontal stripe or any of the flower ones with the characters. But I would be happy with any one of them. Just the fact that our group would have the same shirt is great and a plus for the disboards.

:welcome: aboard

As for the shirts: Whatever we end up with will be fine for me and Candida won't have a choice.

Candida decided to surprise me with a birthday trip to New York City a couple weeks ago. Just wait till Christmas when she finds out about this trip :woohoo:

I wonder how concerned Disney would be about copyright issues if the shirts are for individuals and not mass sale. While in New York we saw Mickey on one corner

Then Minnie made her appearance

But, wait there is another Mickey and another, how many Mickey's do you count :scared1:

So if you have "Mickey" openly standing on the corner in front of the M&M store (not even infront of the Disney Store), I don't think they would be concerned with the shirts since it's not for mass market.

I have heard back regarding shirts for teddy bears and matching dresses to be worn with the shirts. They do not make anything but shirts. However, Becky said that if we buy the shirts they would sell the material for $15 a yard so we could have them made ourselves. However, it would be the same material, not a smaller print so might not work for teddy bear shirts. Nice of them to try and accomodate us though.

Whatever we decide I would actually like to buy a yard also to make a cover for a scrapbook album.

One last design. Alot of you liked the green & brown (my favorite) but mentioned the horizontal strips were not figure friendly so I redesigned making it vertical. Took out the obvious Disney characters and just put in silhouette almost hidden characters. Added wording specific to our cruise.

Not enough Disney maybe

Not Disney enough...lost in this one:confused3

Lol, Les, just waiting for Bob's response to this!

Great idea!

Do you mean my Bob, Mr. Curmudgeon? Did you see the they closed the Curmudgeon thread on the forum stating "it wasn't planning and if they want to complain about DCL they should start their own website"

I LOVED the curmudgeon thread & found it so entertaining. Sadly, I believe it was closed because of a few who began to use it for some thinly veiled attacks though...a bit of mean spirited curmudgeoness, if you will.... but I thoroughly enjoyed the topic for a while. Anyway... thank you for sharing all your creativity - the graphics are beautiful!!

This is the Bob half of Valbob reporting. Editorializing, really. Whatever Valerie has made, and she's put a lot of time into learning how to make things with Photoshop Elements, are just ideas. The shirtmaker will do almost anything as long as we provide high-resolution images. However, Valerie found all of the graphics on the web, and many are much too jaggy or anti-aliased.

The samples are starting points, and several of you have shared ideas that allow the group to refine its requests.

And, since my opinion is just another one of many: I don't like dull colors, and I think brown and green is camouflage, not tropical excitement. Of course, Valerie promised me she'd take my opinion from this forum the way she takes my suggestion for how to season a casserole. But what do you think?

Anyway, I have more than 150 tropical-print shirts. I really, really like Hawaiian shirts, and it makes me sort of picky. First, I want sharp prints. Next, I like bright colors and either a good monochrome (shades of just one color, with white and maybe black) or some surprising combinations. Think of the color of road signs at WDW -- purple, red and yellow-orange. Who'da thunk it, but it looks pretty neat.

After we get a general idea of what the group hopes for, we can get a couple of targeted patterns from the designers. I'm sure they can work with colors for us. For example, some fabric available in Hawaii (mostly for dance troupes) is the same pattern in blue on white, or red on yellow, plus several other colors. So they may be able to modify a couple of their stock patterns to our color preferences. and if you think purple, red and yellow-orange is just plain wrong, what about the Mickey colors of DCL: Shorts red, Shoe yellow, white and black? And they'll make our logos and characters the exact colors we want.

But green and brown? It's a vacation! It's Hawaii! It's a sea-cruise! The tropics! We should get something that looks like fun, not like a branch off a pine tree. (What, try to swing the vote? Me?)

I like the silhouettes on a teal or blue-green floral. And what's with you wussy guys who are afraid to wear something with a little pink in it?

I feel similar really. It doesn't say Hawaii really even though the design is great. However I think some people like those colours rather than the brights. I hope we can all compromise somehow.

We are so very appreciative of Val. I did know they were her playing around with ideas and I think she is very talented, I really do.

Bravo, Bob!! I too would prefer Hawaii colors to camo. But...as I said, Dennis and I will wear just about anything. :rolleyes1

Sorry I like the camo in this case. It had the, in my opinion, the best pattern. I am not afraid to were a shirt with a little pink, I just like this the best. I am not a wuss, not sure if I am offend by that. The jury is out on that one and no that was not sarcasm.

So would the camo pattern one in another colour be ok? I think I would like that as the design is so nice. I find the camo colours not very flattering(on me) and a bit draining particularly now I am old!!!:rolleyes1 However I know they suit lots of other colourings.

I like the pattern. I personaly do not mind the colors but I would like to see the pattern in other colors as well.
