April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Wonder to Hawaii- who is with me?

Well, Mum finally decided she'd rather be sea sick than have to listen to me going on about going to Hawaii on DCL for the next year so I've asked our TA to add her to our reservation.

We saw whales every single day from our cruise ship last time, we felt we wasted our money doing a specific whale watching excursion - just keep an eye out on deck and you might be lucky - heck, I heard them before I saw them a few times as they were so close to the ship... although the whales are at the end of the season by May, chances are pretty darn good to see them.

For EBPC, we got buses from DL area hotels to the port ... now that was an experience in itself!

...

Hi Paula :woohoo: Thanks for the info. I would be happy just to see them while on deck. I will look out for them.

Happy your Mum will be coming.:)

I was just telling my friend yesterday about the " experience " of the transportation thingy from 08. Some good lessons learned that day.:rolleyes1

Our son ask to go on a Disney cruise again all the time ever since we got off our EB Panama canal cruise in 2008. Now that me and my wife booked the Hawaii cruise we want to surprise the kids we were thinking about not telling them and just drive to the port and once the see the boat telling them then.Any other ideas? What are some ways you surprised your kids? Our son will be 8 and our daughter will be 4 at the time of the cruise. thanks

This is one of the situations where I think you have to know your own kids.

I am a planner and was a planner as a kid. Half the fun of an event is getting ready for it. Sometimes even more than half. If I had been surprised it would have been a disappointment as I did not get to plan, prepare and dream. My husband and sons are the same and so is our daughter-in-law so we do not do surprises close to the event unless it is a spontaneous event. This way evereyone packs what he or she wants, researches the event, helps make decorations, etc.

A calendar to check off boxes or making a paper chain to later take links off as a countdown seems more fun to me. Someone made a puzzle of the ship that had the cruise date on it, put the pieces in a different puzzle box, encouraged the kids to put it together and the surprise was on Christmas for a cruise several months later. That would work for our family.

But you have different kids. :)

Oops, added a thumbnail for the cruise logo and it is very small!!! What size do we need to resize it to to be a little bigger?

I am not sure about the size but you can just copy the one I have in my sig. That's how I did mine.;)

Have been getting PMs and adding everyone today. I already found some cute things when surfing web, I might have to have something for all 15 days LOL of course dont think hubby would be too happy with that when were lugging the luggage around. I made our FE gifts for the first time for the upcoming b2b and hope everyone likes it. I do think its nice to get something personalized or made but I know everyone cant do that. I still have my dry erase board from wbpc on fridge :)

How many people would be interested in doing a vow renewal? I would love to do one on hawaiin beach but know people want to do excursions and thats busy time so thinking the ship would be better. If we brought our own decorations and secretly took over deck 7 and did our own thing would they say anything? We need a minister though, or do we since technically were married? Geez too much thinking for almost 5 am
Heather, you wouldn't need a minister because you're already married, so what about you just writing your own vows to read to each other?

:thumbsup2We have a stateroom!

:yay: We never went from gty to a stateroom number this fast. :cool1:
.
:rolleyes1 Tom likes fifth floor best, half way between everything, :upsidedow but we had 1st floor one cruise and it was fine,
::yes:: so I am sure he will be fine with this too. ::yes::

:cheer2:We are on a Disney ship, going to Hawaii, :lovestruc:love:what's not to like?:rotfl2:

Jan, I think you'll love Deck 2 forward. We were right by the forward elevators for the EBTA last year and it's so convenient to all the adult venues. I loved the quick and convenient ride to Cove Cafe!

.

I'm really keen to go to Iolani Palace which is walking distance from the port, it was closed due to a movie being made last time we were there. http://www.iolanipalace.org/

Yes please! We are on deck 2 else I would have offered. I make very good use of the book exchange! ;)
It really is to bad we won't be there when the palace is open but it gives you another reason to go back. If you want another 'inside' excursion the Bishop museum is wonderful. http://www.bishopmuseum.org/

A book I found very interesting is the book Hawaii's Story By Hawaii's Queen by Liliuokalani, she wrote it in 1898 with the hopes that the American public would read her story and demand Congress return Hawaii to the Hawaiian people. It give a very interesting insite into the life of the islands and in the US and UK she visited from her point of view.

You can take a city bus all around the island. However, they do take a lot of time.

Glad you enjoyed the book exchange, will plan to do it again.

Are you coming down to meet us all when we dock in San Fran in 2 weeks?

I had offered to show Brent, one of the crew in guest services, around the city but I haven't heard from him. Is there anything you (or anyone else) need to know about the city? I am sure you have everything planned out by now but if there is anyway I could help let me know. There are a number of discount coupons available for activities around the city if you are still interested.

Would you like to work with Sandy and me on exploring and maybe planning a group vow renewal? PM me.

Thanks! We've been on cruises before, but never DCL. We were docked beside the Wonder in Nassau once and I so wanted to swap ships! They looked like they were having so much fun.

They were too!! :woohoo:

We're Tammy, Sidney, Christian, Nikki, and Caison. Nice to meet you.

That's nice of them to take care of people who sail all the time with them. I will go to the website and start reading up on those kinds of things too. I've been researching things to do in Hawaii the past 3-4 hours. I'm going to be an expert on Hawaii by the time this cruise rolls around. ;)

And it is required that you share your expertise with us here on the DIS!! ;)

Well, Mum finally decided she'd rather be sea sick than have to listen to me going on about going to Hawaii on DCL for the next year so I've asked our TA to add her to our reservation.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! Marilyn, you just brought HUGE smiles to our faces!! :grouphug::cloud9::dance3:

Um, can you bring us a box or two of Yorkshire Tea? Your samples got us addicted to that stuff! :worship:

Jan---what Jackie said. We were right next door to her on deck 2 forward and loved it. We too like deck 5 and got a SPH for this cruise:yay::yay:

I hope there is a subject to change on this!.. I have been told that it would be awesome to have an overnight stay, so that we can enjoy a Luau.. I would be ok with on less day at sea~:cheer2:

If anyone knows folks still looking to get on the ship (or anyone wants to shop for a different catagory) be sure and check the DCL site at midnight Eastern time tonight. Friday's holds should be released then (as Thu holds were last night). Last night Cats 11, 10, 9, 5 all had some cabins come open....and were gone this morning!

.ALSO, someone saw a 9 pop up sometime this morning, of course it was snatched up right away.
