Doesn't the company we are using have a published size chart for their shirts? Seems like a standard thing.
The company we are planning to use makes a unisex (men's) shirt, a very generious cut shirt. This is the same as the other two companies I called. They do have a size chart, which is at the bottom of the link. For example, the Hilo Hattie Men's XL is sized 44-48 inches (no ease), and our maker's is 52. So, a misses' choice would be for a smaller size than they usually get in a woman's cut. The Hilo Hattie size chart shows a Woman's 2X bust as 48-51 and hip at 51. Thus, the men's XL from our shirtmaker would roughly equal a woman's 2X.
Put another way: Lady DISboarder takes her measurements and applies them to OUR shirtmaker's size chart here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KTvbs6OsC-YAyFCRnkyoF4O1JkVJrKT5AwVgMDKi0Dg/edit# at the bottom, and finds her measurements.
It seems our maker never sold kids' shirts, and neither did the other two companies, although their web sites said they did. Their usual customers are like Trader Joes, and clubs, all adults. They are willing to make kids shirts but need 10 of one size to be able to make a pattern and set up the cutting machine. (Ever seen those TV shows where a clothing company has several inches thick of fabric they cut through with a special razor-saw? I think they need at least 10 layers to accomplish a cut.) Having a pattern made isn't like using a Simplicity pattern I would guess.
What I posted is for us to use as a comparison to help to determine size to order. I thought it might help to have an idea what the measurements of women's size is. Maybe this just confused things more.
