April 20th 2013 Fantasy

We got a day pass and tried it out last year. My husband and I went together. Neither of us have ever been in a spa so we were curious. First we tried out the showers. Each one is different, some hot some cold. Next we went in the sauna. Hot. LOL. We then went into the heated lounger room. Heavenly. Warm comfy loungers, overlooking the ocean. So relaxing!! There was a woman snoring loudly next to me. :rotfl: There is also a large hot tub which I went into, also nice. Would we do it again? Probably not. I guess we're not spa people. I would say, however, that when our kids were little, I would have loved the relaxing time away from them. We cruise alone now, so everywhere we go is relaxing on the ship! ::yes::

Thanks so much for your reply! I am so sorry I am just now thanking you. I totally forgot I even asked this question. Did y'all go on a sea day or a port day?
Tina

Retroloco; I tend to enjoy it more when i'm cruising without my kids, then when my kids travel with me. I think i'm too stressed by trying to keep tabs on them (even though mine are older) to fully enjoy. That said, i'm getting a full week pass this time, and MAKING myself spend each day in it. I love the downtime, the hot tub, the heated lounges, the sauna, etc. I can't wait.

Thank you for your response SailingSeas! Maybe I will see you there! I think we are going to purchase a one day pass. Did you buy it onboard or before you sailed? I have heard conflicting stories on it being sold onboard ( the one day pass). Thank you!

Loved the Rainforest room! Got it for the whole week last time I was on the Fantasy. My only complaint and I've posted it on the board before is I was there one day and this girl that couldn't have been more than 18 years old. She and her friend were loud playing in the showers. They walked into the loungers area and I swear to GODS, this gal had the smallest bikini I've ever seen, had braces, a trampy tattoo (and I have tattoos. So normally I am not judgmental about them.). There was an older couple in their 70s, who weighed maybe 150lbs together, and I in the lounger area. These girls were loud and obnoxious. They went into the spa and I heard the tramp stamp girl say "Oh my god! Everyone in here is so fat!" Again 3 people in the room. I just covered myself up and tried to pretend to be cool. I told people at work and one call was like "I would've spread out like Jabba the Hutt." Another gal was like "Did you say 'I can lift you?' or 'I can break you by sitting on you?' " Nope.... Hoping this year we have no 18 year olds.

Thank you Kdeans1010! Haha! That's so funny! At that age sometimes you just don't think before speaking. Are you going to buy a week pass this time?

Hi All! I am new to forums and new to cruising. Disney Fantasy April 20th will be our first cruise. I'm both nervous and excited. We have a special needs son who is in a wheelchair. I have spent weeks planning trying to prepare for life on a boat. Thanks for all the info posted on this forum. I have learned so much. :)

You are so very welcome, Tina!

The single day pass was given to me last time. I did a day visit, then promptly broke my ankle on the ship doing something stupid. This time, I plan on buying it onboard, the first day of arrival. Only the single day passes are sold in advance. They limit the onboard sales if they sell a number of multi day passes.

Lily - see above. I spent that cruise (on the Dream) in a wheelchair. It was a great experience. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have no idea if I am replying correctly because I am totally new to using a forum. Thanks for offering wheelchair advice. I am curious as to how we can get from one level to the next without walking in circles. Also, loved to hear about how you broke your ankle if you are willing to share.

Lily, you are using the forums perfectly. :)

Navigating on this ship is going to be the same in a chair as it is by foot. You'll use the elevators to move up and down, instead of the stairs, but you should be fine. And we all get lost the first time on the Disney ships! :rotfl: If you want some navigational tips, look to the carpet: The carpets are designed so that when you are moving to the front of the ship, the maps are facing right side up. When you are moving to the back of the ship, the maps will be upside down.

To consider port and starboard (left and right side of the ship) just look for the staterooms, and see where the bulk of them are located (on the right or left of the hallway.) There are a couple of decks where it's difficult to move all the way forward or aft on one level. Deck 2 is one, I'm not sure where the other one is. Ask a cast member early on so that you know, and won't get stuck and not be able to find your way out.

That said, I found it fairly difficult to navigate down during the afternoons. The cleaning carts are just wide enough to make moving past them a tight squeeze. I found it hard to move myself past them; it was better when someone was pushing me.

The bane of my existence were the vaccuums. If that wand fell into the hallway, or someone knocked it across my path, it was difficult to find someone to get it out of my way if i were running solo.

I also found it very difficult to move through the gift shops, mainly becuase they were so packed and every single darn thing I wanted was up *there*.

I broke it by walking up the stairs on some carpeted steps in the theatre (I am accident prone.) I knew better; brand new ship, brand new carpet, just slipped. I had broken it previously, so there was no mistaking the tell tale feeling, but it was a very clean stress fracture, unlike my previously messy break. I was fine, and it taught my kids "NO RUNNING ON THE SHIP!"

By the way, the ships medical facilities are AWESOME!

I hope that helps - let me know what questions you have.

Hello! We are traveling from New Hampshire. This is our third Disney Cruise. We upgraded this year to the Concierge Level and I'm really excited. Last year we travels with 18 friends on Winter Break but its just us this year. Looking for some great kids to play with mine - Daughter 10 and Son 8...anyone else from New Hampshire???

Oh, good news. So we won't be the only ones wandering around aimlessly. How funny that will be! Thank you for the tips on getting around.

Sounds like there are plenty of elevators so we should be good.

Fortunately we are always with our son, so we can pick up the vacuum should it be in the way. I'm thrilled Disney likes to vacuum so much.

My husband and I try to tag team when shopping, one staying with our son while the other shops. However, it is pretty interesting shopping with my son because he can be a handful. Hopefully I won't have to do that alone.

I just bought Seabands tonight. Do you they work and are they necessary?

Ouch about your ankle. I am accident prone too! It is good to hear that there is a good medical facility on board. Though, I am really hoping we can avoid using it.

Thanks again.

I use Seabands and ginger tablets to get me through my motion sickness. I used Dramanine one time and was asleep by 8 every night.

Now if only they matched my outfits better and looked less like I was working out with Jane Fonda.

I didn't see a thread yet for the April 20, 2013 Fantasy cruise so I figured I would get it started.

We booked ours the other day. There will be four of us in room 9176. Myself, DW, DS(10), DS(7). This will be our fifth Disney Cruise for DW and I and the boys third. My parents will also be joing us with my niece(13) and will be staying in room 9174. This will be their first time on Disney unless you count the Big Red Boat from years ago.

That's pretty awesome. We booked ours a while back. There will be the three of us, myself 14 years old. First cruise that I can remember. Can't wait to meet other kids! :)
