APRIL 2016 Rental Car Discount ~ Promo Code ~ Rate Watch

sometimes the rental car companies put a cap on how many reservations they will take for a coupon code for a location in a given time period.

if you try to use the $35 coupon for a different location that hasn't met that cap - it will work.

The $35 off coupon does not require a Saturday night stay (I am booked Sunday to Saturday with it). However, these coupons may all require a weekly rate rather than a daily rate. HTH.

Thanks. I got the coupon to work for my May reservation, but not my April - said it was no longer available.

I also got that message when I tried on the front screen. So I went in with only the Vegas Brazil and then edited the info after it pulled up options and it worked. Just a tip to try and I have no idea why the difference.

Has anyone found any good rates at any of the big rental companies at MCO that come close to the Vegas Brazil deal but uses something else? I have some hesitation using that one at Alamo but I do have a reservation there that is a good deal ($124 for full size 4/27-5/1). Using my Costco and the $35 off coupon still is $100 more than Vegas Brazil with Alamo!

I checked with my insurance again tonight to verify the CDW issue. They stated as long as i have collision and damage on my insurance (which i do) they will cover any and all costs to any damage done. They looked at every single part of my policy and stated that i can sign on the dotted line on anything and they will still cover it. I have progressive so not sure if any of you want to call and check with them.

Anyone know how picky Alamo is with times in your rental? I just changed our flights today and will be dropping of the car 2.5hrs later... Still have me a decent price on a "new rental", but if like to go with the one that $60 less...

I'm pretty sure you'll have to pay extra. Those 2.5 hours probably bring you into another rental day.

I think there’s a 30 or 60 minute extra window. But I don’t think the extra day should start until you’ve passed your pickup time. If you pick up at 4pm and were going to drop off at 10am, you didn’t actually have the car a “full day”. So my logic says you don’t go into the extra day until you pass your original pickup time by the 30 or 60 minute window. However, no one ever said car rental companies are logical.

The times you mentioned are similar to our pick up (4pm) and drop off (10am). In our case, we are arriving on Friday and dropping off on Sunday. We are being charged for a 9 day rental (weekly rate plus a daily rate x 2 days). Since your rental seems similar to ours, I do think they will charge you the extra day.

Just re-read your OP. Perhaps the rates have simply gone up since you originally booked and now that extra time costs more or is prorated at a higher price.

it depends on how many hours your original rental is. if your original rental was for 40 hours. your new rental would be 42.5. if your original rental was 48 hours your new rental would be 50.5 hours.

the first example you would pay the same as your original rental-2 days.
the second example you would pay for 3 days.

Used the Vegas Brazil code and got a great deal on a minivan. Has anyone used this code and then added a driver? Our Alamo account is under my name and my husband will be doing most of the driving. Just wondering what the fee is for adding a driver or should I just create an account using his name and make the reservation under his name?

I also booked a mini van... It says it includes and additional driver. Last time I think they added me at the gate window?

Used the Vegas Brazil code in December. Additional driver NOT included. We did not add my DH since I do all the driving (He doesn't have a good sense of direction!). The ressies I made for our trip in April all included the additional driver. Check your reservation. I may say that the additional driver is included.

Always rechecking, I see the CDW is currently not included for 4/30-5/7 ressies.

Depends on size. Whenever I check a minivan it is always included. If I check a full size it's not included. I've been trying to rent a minivan and can't get that rental size to not include it. I'm sitting on a $364 rate with Alamo for 15 days (April 30-May 15). Without the rate, the price is over double! I've never had a problem getting a decent rate (not super lower, but a fair price) for late April/early May before. For my August and October trips, those are generally challenging, but not this timeframe. I generally will only rent from Alamo and National now. As for National, those rates are completely out of my reach.

I just used the $35 off code for Alamo for April on a 1 day rental and ended up getting my rental for a total of $6.43?!?! I'm concerned I will show up and they will say the coupon isn't valid (saw someone mention this happening?). Has this happened to anyone with the $35 off? Dollar is cheaper if I don't get this discount, just don't want to be surprised when I show up.

I think I may be the one you are referring to above. I was able to make three one day reservations with the $35 off code. I haven't used them yet and may not use them, so I don't know if there would be a problem.

You could always keep the Dollar reservation as a backup.

Good to know. Did you use the Vegas Brazil code also? And there was no additional charge for adding you (I know it says additional driver included, but I'm wondering about hidden fees tacked on after the fact).

I also booked a one day rental with the coupon and only paid taxes and fees. I did the online check-in and printed the bar code so that I can just grab the car from the isle and go. The other option is to use the kiosk and avoid human contact.
