April 2014 car rentals

The KLM code is a decent rate, but I noticed it includes all insurance, etc. I've heard people say there will be a problem if the car is involved in an accident. Should I be wary of the codes that are all inclusive. I've read that many people use this KLM code.

As long as you go on to KLM site and sign up for the frequent flyer program you will be fine.

I keep trying to sign up for KLM FF and it gets more and more complicated.

That is a very good question. I am sure that it depends on your insurance company or the master rental coverage offered by your credit card. Does anyone know?

Just saw that Budget had a full size car for $282 (tax included)on the Costco Travel website. It was for 04/12-04/18. (6 days. 4 hours).

OUCH!! please don't settle for this price. Wait till your trip gets closer because that is when you find the best deals. I book the Tues before my trip because that is when last minute specials are release by the car co.

The rates I'm getting on a minivan for April 18-26, could get me a value room for a week. We're a group of 4 adults and 2 children. I tried the KLM code that I've seen here and the prices are still crazy.
Looks like we might have to use a limo service and taxis. Hoping the prices come down because I prefer driving.

I agree with the minivan prices. Granted we are renting a minivan in early June for 13 days picking up in Las Vegas and dropping off at LAX. (This time is a Disneyland trip.)

Using National and KLM the best we can do is $1325. So hoping as the time gets closer, I will find better deals.

Here is where I am - April 12-19 (7 days plus 1 day due to late return)
$310 for Standard - National with KLM Code
$515 for Minivan - Dollar BJs Discount

Hoping for lower... but at least we have the cars reserved with the crazy dates we are going!

As stated by most others...prices are quite high right now. I currently have a reservation though Costco Travel for a standard (4/26-5/10; 14 days) for $582. This is a little more than $41/day which is absurb to be honest. Prices will most likely drop as we get closer to April but I wouldn't expect to see anything start dropping until early-to-mid March.

My advice - lock in some price now and check weekly until 2-3 weeks before you leave. Modify your reservation if the price drops. Two weeks before your trip start checking daily; one week before your trip start checking multiple times per day.

Worst case scenario - use priceline or hotwire when you're less than a week out.

I've never paid more than $20/day for a full size car or $30/day for a minivan or midsize SUV.

As always...YMMV.

Reading this thread makes me happy that I locked in the FIrefly Midsize at 118 for 6 days. I'll give them a shot...not going to pay 3 or 4 times that amount for a rental. That's insane!

To bad I locked in a rate with Enterprise for $125 for a full size last year at the same time! Poor kids in front of me were conned into upgrading to full size for almost $500!

I check every day. As a matter of fact, I just rebooked at $262. Still at Budget on Costco travel. I get e-mails from National, Alamo, Dollar, Thrifty and Hertz. Until last week the price was closer to $400 so the price is heading in the right direction. :thumbsup2

On our last trip in 2011, I had a Cadillac DTS for $229 (including tax)for the week with National. I think I used an Entertainment coupon with my Emerald Club discount. It was out of Tampa though.

That is the week before Easter and a huge school break week. We are looking for that timeframe as well in Tampa and the rates have been high.

When checking for Alamo codes, I noticed the Pep Master code was being used again. I have used this code all around the country including Disney World last April with no problems. The code is TINDR1 which includes the gas refill and all insurance. The only vehicle available with the code is a full size SUV @ $499.80. for April 18-26. Not super cheap but without the code the total would be $836.25.
Don't remove either the gas or insurance because it will not work. I filled out the check in online information so I won't have to go to either the desk or to a kiosk. I might also prepay so I can drive off.

Costco travel has a full size with Budget at TPA for $259 a week (4/12-4/19).

Has anyone used Thrifty at MCO before? The reviews are pretty bad online, so it makes me nervous.

However, I reserved a full size today for a total of $130.44, including all fees and taxes, for 4/26-5/4.

Any thoughts?

We have used Thrifty and not had any problems. What doesn't make sense is if I return the car in the evening on 5/3 it's over 200. On 5/4, it's 79.

Thanks. By simply tweaking our hours, our rate improved!

Strange how a few hours can make a difference. Glad you could get the lower rate!
