April 18, 2010 - 4 night Wonder

For those of you that have cruised with Disney before, are they lenient about who can go in the teen lounge? I have a 14 year old and a 12 1/2 year old who I would like to stay together.

Usually, if the child is within one month of turning 13 they are allowed in with the teen group, that's what happend with our DD on our first cruise back in August 2003. I guess you could try and see what happens though.

Welcome to the DIS! Are you sailing with us this week in April?

Depending on the age group on board that week, I'm not sure I would want a 12 1/2 year old in there. The age limit is 17 (or 18 if just graduated from HS and have not started college), so you could have some much older teens in there.

Just my $.02 worth.

Is it better/cheaper to stay at a hotel at the airport the day before or Cape Canaveral? Is there an advantage to using Disney transportation from the airport. I've heard many people use Tiffany Towncar.

Anyone going to Disney after the cruise?

We are staying at the Radisson at the port and will be taking their free shuttle bus to the port. Although we own a vacation home about 90 minutes away in Lake County, FL we enjoy staying closer to the port the night before the cruise.

We will be flying home to NJ the day we get off the ship as Bryan has to be back to work on the weekend.

Hey Ed--I hear your area is in for some snow today as well. Luckily for us, we are only expected to receive about 1"-3" from this storm.

The forecaster I was watching last night, about 10pm, really had no clue as to how much we were going to get. She was saying somewhere around 6 inches, maybe more, maybe less. I'll have to watch the noon news today and see if they have any better idea yet.

I'm supposed to take DS to a ski area tomorrow. This is school vacation week up here and he is signed up for their "vacation ski camp". It's about 25 miles from here, so I hope we don't get too much overnight.

We're renting a car when we fly in and staying at the Residence Inn the night before the cruise. DCL transfers are $35 per person, each way, so if you have more than a couple of people it can be less expensive to use a towncar service or rent a car. Supposedly, you can get some pretty decent prices on hotels near the airport, if you use Priceline or Hotwire, but I have never tried it.

We're staying in FL for a couple of days after the cruise, but not at WDW. We can get a two bedroom condo at Marriott's Cypress Harbour for a lot less than a regular room at one of the moderate or deluxe Disney properties. We have a couple of days left on non-expiring park passes, so we may go to one of the parks for one day.

Well, we ended up with about 7 - 8 inches here at the house. I spent the day sitting out at the ski area because I guessed that the roads would be bad if I left and tried to go back in the afternoon. I was right - the roads were horrible and it took us over twice as long to get home as it usually does.

I have had ENOUGH snow!!!

I hear you and I agree 1000%!!!!!

These past two days walking around reading meters has liked to kill me. I can't wait for it ALL to melt!!!!!

The forecasters up here still haven't figured out this coming week. They're saying we could get some of everything - rain, sleet, snow - starting Tuesday and lasting until at least Friday. As long as we don't get freezing rain that causes another major ice storm, we'll be ok.

Hopefully you'll just get rain - you have DEFINITELY had more than your fair share of snow this winter.

Well, I wish I could say I am sick of the snow but we haven't really had one good storm yet. My husband and I love snow and we are a little depressed this winter. I know you all don't want any more but we would like about 30 inches! sorry.

And Vancover..........it's been so beautiful there but they've had some rain not a lot of snow. Who knew that virginia should have had the Olympics! :rotfl: j/k I think they are doing fine.

ok, cruise talk. Can't wait, we are counting down the days and are so excited. We decided to get passports instead of just having the bc since we live so close to Canada and visit there once in a while along with wanting to go on more cruises.

We had an appt. at the P.O. and they took care of everything. For the 14 and 10 year old we only got the passport cards since they were cheaper and the books expire 5 years from now anyway. WOW.....all in all we spent over $450 for the 5 of us. Whew! I had no idea that it was going to be that expensive.

they said they were running about 2-4 weeks turn around. I checked the passport website and they said up to 4 weeks so we should be good. I must admit I'm nervous about it though. ONly because we had to obviously give up our original b.cert. too for this so we have nothing.

oh, and about the indictment of the guy that was on the Disney ship in dec./2006........well, that just made me decide that no matter how late the girls (14 and 17) get out of the teen club, their dad or I will be "picking them up" from the club. It's not about trusting my DD's, it's about everyone else. That poor girl and her family. Can I just say, "Hang him high". nuff said.

Question on the magnets. I was thinking about doing some but I have a dumb question. How do you exactly do this? I never see directions only pictures. Do you send something to a printing company? I don't get it at all and I'm not too computer saavy.

7 weeks and 4 days until we leave for Florida!!

Tell you what..... I'll do my best to steer this storm that's headed our way over to your area. Probably won't be too successful though. We haven't had anywhere near as much as Andy (Verandah Man) has, but I'm still tired of it!

As for the magnets..... I've never made any, but a lot of people buy the magnetic paper at an office supply store (Staples, Office Max, etc.) and print out their design on that. I doubt if you could get a print shop to make just one, or two, and it would probably be pretty expensive. There is a pretty big thread on the main cruise forum about magnets, so you might want to take a look at that.

One suggestion about your passports..... if you have not received them by a couple of weeks prior to the cruise, I would contact one of your U.S. Senators. We had problems getting our DS's a couple of years ago and sent a quick email to our Senator's office. It "magically" appeared two days later. Somehow I don't think that was pure coincidence.

Ok snow...... head west to the Finger Lakes and leave us alone.

I second that, especially after the day I just had!!! I read 270 water meters in a 55 and over community and only about 5 residents sidewalks were cleaned of snow. They pay association fees, but the company who was supposed to clean the sidewalks only cleaned off their driveways and walkway from the driveway to the front door. It's been over two weeks since the first big storm. I called my boss and told him why it was going to take me longer to get my work done today. He said he was going to see what he can do about getting the sidewalks cleared of the snow. That doesn't help me now, but maybe it can help the residents who live there.

I have made many door magnets for our cruises. I use Print Shop Deluxe 10 program. The magnet sheets go right through the printer, it's as easy as printing off photos.

I just had to take a pain pill, so I probably won't be online much tonight. It just started raining here, but we might be getting more of the white stuff later in the week. So far, we have had over 73" of snow this winter.

according to accuweather.com, my area has had 13 inches total since Jan. 1st. See what I mean? Pathetic!!

Keep steering it here, my friends. We'll take it. ;)

Ouch!! That has to be hard on that new knee Andy. Hopefully today will be better for you! :thumbsup2

We've only had a few flurries so far, but they did issue a Winter Weather Warning for 4pm today until 4pm tomorrow. Now they're saying we could get up to a foot of snow in that timeframe, along with some freezing rain, just for fun. :scared1: If they are correct, I'm betting on no school tomorrow. I just hope we don't lose power!

Is April EVER going to get here?!?!?
