April 18, 2010 - 4 night Wonder

Just heard from our friends that got off the Disney Magic this morning. Since the earliest flight they could get would be this coming Wednesday, they are spending the night at Saratoga Springs in WDW, then tomorrow they will be renting a car and driving back to NJ.

Latest official snowfall total from Philadelphia Airport 26.7"

What this "old boy" doesn't do for young love. My nephew was going to come over tomorrow to dig us out, but our DD's fiance is coming over to pick our DD up and go back to his house to watch a movie, so I had to run outside and dig a path from the front door to the street. There sure was a lot of snow to move!!!

FOX News just reported the official snow total at Philly Airport is 28.5 inches and the storm is over for us. The town, right next to us, reported the same total. I am so tired of this winter, and I hear we might get another 6-8 inches in a couple of days. I sure hope that storms misses us.

What a nice guy you are for digging a path for DD's fiance! If it was me, I would have probably waded through the snow and put the shovel at the end of the path with a note telling him to shovel his way in! :lmao:

Wow! 28.8 inches is a lot of snow, especially when it's heavy. Up here they're saying we could get 6 - 12 inches from that mid-week storm. Let's hope it misses all of us and just goes out to sea as a rain storm!

Spent another 3 hours shoveling this morning and still not completely finished. My wife's nephew is supposed to come over this afternoon and help me finish. I'm pooped and getting too old for this much snow at one time. :rotfl:

At least I was able to dig out a path to our oil tank, we need to have a heating oil delivery this week, should have done it last week before the snow hit. The same thing happened to me in December when we had the 23.2" snowfall. My luck sure is bad. :lmao:

Time for some lunch and REST!!! ;)

Andy,

I hope you're all rested up now, and ready for round two. The forecast doesn't look too good your neck of the woods! We're supposed to get some snow out of this next storm too, but nowhere near as much as you.

Ed

Hi Ed,

Looks like we are in for another 12"-20" starting early this evening and lasting into Wednesday night. I took Wed. and Thurs. off as vacation days. I already had Fri. and next Mon. off for President's Weekend. So, after today, I have the next 6 days off. Here we "snow" again!!!:sad2::eek::scared1:

Good for you! At least you won't have to worry about getting up early to shovel or spend the day tromping around in the snow!

I don't know, spending your days off shoveling doesn't sound fun! In in Southern CT and we should be getting hit pretty hard too. We haven't had any huge storms yet so dare I say this one is welcome? My kids are dying to make a snow man! :woohoo: Hope everyone digs out okay and doesn't loose power, thats what I worry about is loosing power, my house would be awfully cold!

My vacation days for Wed and Thurs were 2009 carry-over vacation days and had to be used by the end of February or I would lose them. I figured this week was a good time to use them. Walking around reading meters yesterday, and today, liked to kill me, I nearly fell down several times on the ice and walking through 20 plus inches of snow.

They keep changing their minds about how much we're going to get out of this one. It hasn't started snowing here yet (about 30 miles west of Boston). I know exactly what you mean about being afraid of losing power. We lost power for 7 days during the big ice storm in Dec. 2008 and ended up in a Residence Inn for 6 nights. The temp in the house got down to 38 degrees. Plus, with no power we had no water either, because our water comes from our own private well.

Every time it snows down there I think about you having to slog through the snow and slush. Take it easy today and shovel for small periods at a time. Personally, I would rather go out 3 or 4 times to shovel, than to try and do it all at once.

I just came in from shoveling the snow that fell overnight. We got about 8" so far, it was raining and sleeting the whole 2 hours I was out there shoveling, but the snow is supposed to return shortly dumping another 12" to 18" on us by the time it is finished later tonight. I just heard we might get more snow this coming Monday. :scared1:  :scared1:

The snow has taken over again, in fact we are having some Thunder Snow going through our area. I just came back in from shoveling round #2 today. We are getting 1 to 2 inches per hour again. I'm trying to keep up with the snowfall as much as possible. I'm beginning to WONDER if APRIL will ever get here. :confused3

It started snowing lightly here about an hour ago, so not much on the ground yet and it is still melting on the roads. They either closed, or closed early, well over 100 schools up here, and the snow isn't even bad yet (at least not by New England standards). The thunder snow can be a little "freaky". The first time I ever saw it was in Indiana, at night, and it was just plain strange! You really need some pixie dust down there Andy. Don't know if this will help much, but here goes pixiedust: pixiedust:

Thanks Ed, can use all the PD we can get. I just came in from shoveling round #3. It is a lot easier shoveling this way. Only needed to be out there 30 minutes this last round!!! :goodvibes

I'm done shoveling for today. I was out there 6 times today and I am totally exhausted. The snow is supposed to start slowing down between 8 and 9 tonight, then still have light snow until around midnight or so. I know I shoveled well over 12" of snow today.

It doesn't look like the PD worked very well :sad2:

I was just reading that the snowiest winter records for the major cities down there have been broken already, and there may be another storm next week! :scared1:

Not to rub salt in the wound, but we got less than an inch in my area. Other parts of Mass. got more, but it was nowhere near the "major" storm they were predicting.

I did hear a first last night on the news...... a weatherman actually apologized for "blowing" the forecast! A lot of schools closed and they sent the state employees home early yesterday, so a lot of needless things were done.

Just came back in from shoveling for the last time from this snowfall. The official total at Philly Airport was 15.8" which helped set a new record for one season. We are now just over 70" of snow for this season, with a possible of more this coming Sunday night into Monday morning. At this rate, I'll still be shoveling snow in April, LOL!!!

For those of you that have cruised with Disney before, are they lenient about who can go in the teen lounge? I have a 14 year old and a 12 1/2 year old who I would like to stay together.
