I want to thank everyone for making me appreciate my home town. I think I've taken it for granted all these years.

I keep reading about going to the beaches (Castaway Cay), and swimming, and was thinking 'whats the big deal?'

I am fortunate enough to have lived on Long Island all my life. Right now, I am 15 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, 5 minutes from Long Island Sound, and 5 minutes to the bay.
After reading about people being excited to visit the beaches, I realized how much I take it for granted.

So thanks for making me appreciate my surroundings. :sunny:

now ... think about your beach and add a constant temperature of low 80's with warm, clear, blue water year round and now you can understand the beaches that we are talking about.

I have lived right on Lake Huron most of my life and it just does not compare to the Caribbean ... close in some ways, different in others, but it just doesn't get any better than the Caribbean IMHO.

I agree, the water up here in no comparison to the CLEAN, blue waters we will be going to.

I'm on the opposite side of Michigan on Lake Michigan - have been all my life. And it is wonderful, lots of changing sights and so forth.

But it does NOT compare to the Caribbean. For weeks now DH & I have been asking ourselves just why we didn't plan to get away from this water (it is frozen and snow covered) and go to that water!

Then our two teenagers who will be heading off to college in the not too distant future will walk into the room and we remember why.

But - rboyz is right in that those of us who are near the beach take that somewhat for granted in a general sense.

We have homes on a lake in upstate New York,on the beach at the NJ shore and oceanfront in South Beach, Miami.

None of them compares to the warm, turquoise Caribbean.

As you can see from my location, I to am from Long Island, and not to far from the north shore. Let me tell you, There is nothing like the clear blue waters of the Carribiean. We will be sailing on our fourth cruise over Easter week/7day western and we are looking forward to it so much. We are avid Disney goers and are DVC members also.

Even though the beaches are very pretty around the island with it's white sand on the south shore, it doesn't match the islands of the Carribiean.

Enjoy your upcoming trip and you too will be converted.
