Are appetizers ever included on the DDP (the regular- not the deluxe)? Are you ever able to substitute dessert? I’ve seen places note that you may substitute a dessert for a soup or salad but wondering specifically about appetizers. Thank you!!

The only time appetizers may be included on the standard DDP is for dinner packages, like RoL, Fantasmic, etc.

Appetizers are never* substituted for desserts on the DDP. Soup or salad or some sides SOMETIMES, but never heard of an app being allowed.

*I almost hesitate to use the word never, because inevitably, someone will come along with a story of being allowed to sub a dessert for an appetizer. But, if it happened, it is certainly a rarity and totally out of the norm.

1. Rarely. The prix fixe meals (e.g. at Chefs de France, Monsieur Paul) include an appetizer. I think Nine Dragons and Restaurant Marrakesh also have prix fixe meals, but Marrakesh and Monsieur Paul may still have an upcharge. Some of the dining packages also include an appetizer.

2. The note you've seen on the DDP brochure says the substitution may be available at some TS restaurants, so you will have to ask at each restaurant and it will be an item pre-selected by the restaurant. Most often it has been a cup of soup, a side salad or a veggie. You will not be able to choose an appetizer from the menu.

I don't think every appetizer is available to switch, only certain ones. Once it was explained to me this way, Most apps take longer to prepare than dessert, the reson why only certain ones are appilciable when they are allowed.

I think it's less that than it is a case where you're generally dealing with multiple diners. If half of them swap desserts for appetizers and they split them, then a 2-course meal becomes a 3-course meal, tying up the table longer for no gain in revenue.

I'd guess the only reason they offer the substitution at all, in the rare cases where it can be done, is to accommodate dietary needs when there is no suitable dessert option.
