Appetizer Question

I am wondering if anyone who has been on the DxDDP has every gotten their appetizer to go, instead of eating it at the restaurant.

We are most likely going to do this plan this summer. We will be using a TS credit for lunch and then heading back to our room for the afternoon.

We have gotten dessert to go on the regular plan but wondering if this can be applied for apps as well.

I am thinking that some of the meals we won't want the app as well as the dessert and if we can get one and then have it boxed, we can take it back to the room for later.

Thanks!

we've done the deluxe several times now...and you know, I'm having a hard time thinking of appetizers we've had that would "travel" well. Seems like it's all either soup/saucy, or fried foods (like calamari or fried ravioli or some-such) Seems like that kind of stuff wouldn't keep or heat well later.

As for your question, I don't see how it would make any difference if you asked for a box for your app...think they'd bring you one if you asked. Except by the time you get it back to you room would be about 1.5 hours or more after the item was served (figuring you'd get an app at the beginning of your meal...take an hour at least to get through the meal, then 30 min. travel time back to room.) A lot of foods would not keep for 90 min. (like the aforementioned fishy/fried goodies)

The other thing we noticed while doing the deluxe...we were never hungry "later"...barely hungry by the time the next meal rolled around. The few times we took items back (like left-over desserts) we never finished them. AT the end of the week we threw out 1/2 dozen leftover/uneaten desserts from the week.) We just never got hungry between meals while on the deluxe. Didn't even use the snack credits while we were there except for the very occasional bottled water.

Thanks! After I posted, I got to thinking that instead of taking the apps to go, we would probably end up with part of our meal left over and can just take that with us.

The places we are scheduling for our lunches will be in close proximity to where we are staying so I think we will be good in terms of getting it back with us. We will probably take our desserts to go as well.

We have found it is just best to order what you want and not worry about getting stuff to go. Like OP said we were never hungry and very very rarely ate anything we brought with us. So basically we were tipping on food that we took with us but never ate. The CM push you to take the food because it's free.... but they are also pushing the food because the more you order the more you have to tip. Once we got over being part of the clean the plate club and ordering what we had a right to and just ordered what we actually wanted to eat life was a lot easier!

Thanks for the advice. Since I will be staying on my DVC reservation and we can book things now in a way where I don't have to get the plan every night and therefore, the food from one of my TS lunches will more than be enough to cover my dinner as well.

This is one of the reasons we are doing TS for lunch--so that we can bring back the food we don't finish to the room for later.

I do think that if I had to do the DxDP for each night, I would not bother as it would be forcing me to eat more than I wanted. But since I am only looking at doing plans every other night and spreading out the credits, no food will go to waste this time.

I see what you are saying about certin types of foods not keeping. But there is no reason you have to order your food in a particular order. No reason not to order dessert first! :rotfl: I'm thinking you can order and eat your entree then order desert and your app to go at the same time. Some apps may even make a yummy breakfast the next day.
And I know what you mean about too many desserts. We were only on the QSDP for 6 night and I have no idea how many we tossed!
I am planning on DxDP for our next trip and we will be doing signatures probably everyday. Even then I know it is going to be too much food!

We were thinking about upgrading to the Deluxe plan because we are bigger eaters and paid OOP for items on the regular dining plan. We are staying club level at WL though so for us not sure it would be worth upgrading the plan. I think it depends on the type of eaters you are and for us it did pay to take things back to our room because we did eat it later.
