AP renewal

IF I have a 1 day ticket that was never used, can it be applied to the balance of the AP RENEWAL? If so, how? Can u do it online or on the phone or do u have to do that in person?

I have never done this, but I would assume it has to be done at WDW, as no one knows until they get to the park if the ticket is valid or not.
