AP/ Magic Bands

This will be our first AP purchase since Magic Bands have been in general use. So I have a quick question- which I'm sure has probably been answered- so please bear with me:

Once we receive our vouchers and link them to MDE, will we be able to customize new magic bands, use our existing ones (which my boys have lost since our last trip) or, will they issue the grey one when we arrive and activate the passes?

When you activate the AP at the parks, new MBs get sent to your home. Take your older ones to use even though it sounds like you will be short a few.

That is the main complaint by new APholders. You won't be given MBs at the Parks.

That is correct. (And... illogical.)

They don't automatically get sent to your house when you activate the APs. That's just when they will be available for customizing and shipping in your account. You still need to verify the address, customize, and confirm shipping the same as you do with a resort reservation.

I activated my AP's on Saturday and once I got home from the park that night and logged into MDE I was given the option to customize my MagicBands. I just got notification this morning that they have already shipped.

We activated ours, and then customized them the next day. They were shipped and waiting for us when we got home from vacation. It does seem kind of strange that they do it that way.

We renewed ours over the phone, and they showed up in MDE immediately. A day or two later MDE showed we had the option to customize them (colors & names). A few days after we clicked Done in MDE, we received email that they had shipped, and then they arrived along with the AP discount cards. We haven't been to WDW yet to activate them but have made our FP+ for our February trip.

AP Renewals work differently than New APs when it comes to getting MagicBands. Renewals extend your current pass by 1 year, new APs don't have an expiration date set until they are activated.

If you are staying onsite you will get MBs for your hotel room and you will have those. Once you can customize and receive your AP MBs look under the MBs for AP slider and discount card. You will use discount card and IDs for store discounts. Until you get it just show your ap and ID.

We plan to get AP vouchers from AAA before our June trip. Can we buy the MagicBands online before the trip and when we get them link them to MDE? That way we would have active MBs when we get to the parks.

What about if we bought 7 day hopper tickets? If I link those to MDE will we get MBs mailed to us before our trip? (We are staying off site)

Even though you can link your voucher to your MDE and even make FP+s, the voucher is still a voucher. At any point, you can change your mind about who's voucher it is and that person can get the AP. Theoretically, one voucher can get many AP MBs if it is constantly linked and transferred to another. Only when it is cashed in, will it be irrevocably tied to only one person and only that person will get the AP MB.

You can order solid color MagicBands from DisneyStore.com/MagicBands which you can link to MDE after they arrive.

No. Only those with a reservation at a Disney Owned & Operated Resort or an Active Annual Pass can get MagicBands by mail.

Nice that you took my middle sentence out and ignored the rest. You missed the point of my statement. Not getting a MB just because you have a voucher is policy BECAUSE if a AP voucher gets you a AP MB, then one voucher can get many AP MBs. Disney makes this not possible by waiting until after the AP voucher is cashed in that you can order a AP MB. All of this explanation was meant to calm the AP voucher people upset that they can't get their AP MB prior to actually getting the AP. There is a real reason why new AP vouchers are not sufficient to get a AP MB.
