AP info / access...

I purchased APs with the DVC offer that expired in Jan and they show up in my MDE account. However, they are not activated yet.

How do I get access to AP info on discounts etc? Do I have to wait until they are active?

When I'm logged into Disney websites, it recognizes me as a DVC member but not an AP holder.

I think you may have to wait until they are activated. I bought mine in December. I already had APs but did not renew when they expired in February--better deal to buy new since we weren't going until late May. When those expired, I no longer could see the AP discounts. I activated my new ones last week and can see it all again.

Yes; you have to activate it. My old AP expired in November...purchase the new one but didn't activate it until February. Didn't see anything between November-February until activation went through.
