AOL for FREE if you have BYOA or Broadband

Thank you , thank you, thank you!!!
You all are fantastic- I just called and voila!!!! no more aol fees. Caroline

OMG!! I have been paying $25.90 plus tax since 1997  ! Thank you so much for posting, I will be saving a ton!

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH OP!!! I was paying $14.95 a month for years and that really annoyed me consdiering how much I pay for my cabel connection. Thanks to you it is now FREE! :thumbsup2

WOW! Thanks!!!!!!!!!

I just called. The hardest part was understanding the rep with the thick Indian accent.

I asked to cancel my account b/c I had cable access and he started to sound like he was actually going through with it.....a REAL cancellation....

So I mentioned "I really hate the thought of giving up my email address, but it seems silly to pay for AOL when I have high speed access."

To which he said "well, I think you're going to be a very happy lady when I tell you about our new plan....."

And I got it just as described.

My only irk is why can't AOL just DO it for everyone. Why do we have to find out about this on the DIS?

Thanks for posting this! I can't believe how easy this was.

Thanks so much for posting this! :Pinkbounc I called and said I wanted to cancel and they offered it to me right away. I'm so mad that I've been paying $14.95 all along for no reason! Argh! But thanks to you guys, I'm no longer doing that. Thanks again. :thumbsup2

I have not seen this question - how long have many of us missed out on this promotion? I feel pretty stupid never having heard of it until now, and aol kept getting my money each month. I am so glad you alerted us OP - thanks again. Caroline

I actually read an article in the newpaper a couple weeks ago that said AOL was thinking about doing this (going free for BYOA subscribers). I guess they have decided to do it but they should really just go ahead and do it for everyone that is qualified, why make them call in?

Okay, I've read the responses that state that the only difference will be in billing, not in services. I just want to make sure I understand this correctly because I pay all of my bills via AOL's Billpay service, and I would be totally lost without it. Can anyone verify that I will be able to continue use of Billpay with the "Free" plan?

Thanks! :)

Jordan's Mom- nothing will change but you'll now have it all free!!! Trust us!!

Didn't work for ME :(

They did offer $4.95 a month.. instead of the 7.95 that I am paying now. You have to sign up for a 12mth commitment though. When I told rep I did not want to commit for a year, he said, well, then the 7.95 is the best I can do!
I have been on AOL for 9 yrs.... and that was that.
I will call back and try again tomorrow... but if I cannot get it for FREE, at least I can get it for 4.95 with another year.

Thank you! I am going to give it a try. Anything would be better than the $14.95 I'm paying now!

UPDATE: I called and got a really nice CSR who offered the free plan right away. I'm so happy! Thanks so much OP for posting this great deal!!!!!!!!!

Hope it goes better tommrow . All Isaid was I want to cancel because I already have my on DSL and away the payment went. They offered it to me right away. I did not ask for anything better than what I was [aying I just flat out said I want to cancel and poof no more payment. Hopefully with some pixie dust you will get it with try two.

This is brand new. I called about six weeks ago and told them I wanted to cancel. (I really did want to cancel.) They offered me the $4.95 per month thing which I accepted, but not right away. (Only dh uses the aol account, so I didn't care if I kept the account or not, LOL.)

So this is something that went into effect very recently.

Make sure you say you want to cancel, that is the MAGIC word.
Good luck.

AOl has been offering this for about a year now,if not longer. I changed from AOL to Bellsouth extreme fast access and wanted to cancel AOL - I had been with them since about 1993 or so.

But then I used my laptop when I would travel and I would use more than the 5 or so hours free and the hourly rate went sky high. When you get that first bill, it will stop you in your tracks.

Or you sign onto your DSL and then open up AOL to pick up your messages and not close it and WHAM, you forget it is on for hours - and then the hourly rate is in effect.

And you have the 12 month committment.

It didn't take me too long to change my e-mail address on everything.

call back and tell them you are canceling. that should do the trick. If it doesn't, seriously threaten to cancel and they'll likely throw in a few free months, and by then the free BYOA will be available to the masses.

AOL has offered differing promos to keep people subscribed to the service for some time. That isn't new.

This free access offer is new, within the last 2 months (my friend's husband works for AOL). There is no 12 month commitment, not that anyone mentioned to me when I made the switch... My CSR explained to me that my AOL would be free for life. :teeth:

My DSL provider has dial-up, so I would use that if I needed it.
