Tell them that you access AOL via your Broadband provider and heard that AOL is offering free access provided that you utilize your broadband connection (non-AOL).
If they give it to you, they'll read off a bunch of terms and conditions.
New plan is effective immediately.

Good Luck......>>>>

I just hung up the phone w/AOL. I got the free AOL which means no dial up and no customer service. I called and said I was cancelling because I a had broadband connection and he offered me the free plan. He also offered me some type of 12 month contract for 4.95/mo that gives 10 hours of dial up and customer service--which I politely declined. I had been paying 6.95 per month BYOAccess. I have Verizon DSL and now I get to keep my AOL email addresses for life for free.

OMG! I just got DSL in May (through another company) and was told by AOL that I had to pay $9.95 for AOL access per month AND had to agree to it for one full year or be charged a $20 cancel fee. This also included the 10 hours of dial up (which I couldn't figure out how to use when my DSL was down one day.

I even asked point blank if they had a cheaper plan that didn't include the dial up and I was told no.

I think I need to call and complain. I swear I hate AOL I just dont' want to give up the e-mail I have had for years.

Hmmmmmm, i've got to dig out my stuff to see when I last reduced the price because I agreed to a certain time frame....but i think it might be up.

Then I'm gonna try. Thanks!!! We too have Verizon DSL.

On the phone now, will let you all know my outcome. I was on the 4.99 plan, but then they increased it to 6.95, I was going to CX, but I've had my screenname for 8+ years.

I have mine for 10 years and was scared to say cancel too, but I did. I figured I could always "change my mind" at the last minute if they didn't offer it to me. But they did, just tell them all your friends are getting it and it's not right for them to be so selective. It works, just try it, and back out at the last minute if it's not offered then you know you gave it a try at least!

Yeah!!! Thanks so much for the information. I just called and was given the free offer. We have comcast, however I have not wanted to give up my aol we have been with them for years. :thumbsup2

I have been having this for almost a year.

Call and they will get it set up.

TravelRachel I could :love2: you. I just got off the phone with AOL. You just saved me $14.95 per month!!!

It's been bugging me for years paying extra but I need AOL for work.

Thank you so much!

Thank you, THANK YOU!!!
I have been thinking about cancelling my AOL because I just could not justify paying almost $15 a month for only the email. But I called the number and was offered the free plan!

Did I say THANK YOU??!!

OMG! Well, I got it, BUT you HAVE to say you want to cancel.

DH & I were both on the line. I first said I heard you can get free AOL access if you have another Broadband provider. We have Verizon DSL. She says let me look at your account. We can offer you $9.95 instead of the $14.95 you currently pay. I say, why? I know others have gotten free. She says its not a promotion for right now. What??? So, after some reluctancy, I say ok, go $9.95. Its for 6 mths. I ask what happens at end of 6 mths. She says it goes back to $14.95.

UGH!! I say forget it. Let me think about it. And tell her I'll probably call back & end up cancelling. And I'm ready to hang-up. (I wouldn't cancel. I've had this email address since 1994 & that's the only reason we are still here. But I don't tell her that.)

She instantly starts saying "don't hang up, I can do it, I can do it." And she's laughing at the absurdity of the situation. I say why can you do it now? She says you had to say you were going to cancel & I didn't say that before. She's still laughing while we finish. (laughing with us...not at us)

Gotta love AOL. (since 1994)

Thank you, I just saved a monthly charge also. It was so easy to do, I was only paying 4.95 but now I am paying NOTHING!!!

:cheer2:  :cheer2:

I have a cable modem..can i get it for free too? Sorry if that is a completely stupid question, but i am pretty much computer illiterate..lol

Yes you can, we have a cable modem. So now I'm getting AOL free and to boot I get offered a 30 day membership to all their premium services free of charge. Sweet! Time to download some music, thanks OP!

I have to agree about "cancel" being the magic word... when I called, the CSR gal told me it was a test market, not available to the public, etc. and I simply said, "fine, I'll just cancel and sign up when it's free". And said, "cancel? you want to cancel? OK, we can sign you up"

good grief. It's all over the internet and the news that AOL is offering this... why be coy?

I am so out of the loop. :confused3 Someone please take pity on me. We have AOL thru a dial up 2nd phone line so we are paying way way too much and it is slower than... I haven't switched as I don't want to lose the screen names. I want to switch over to our cable TV provider for online access. That would be approx. $30/month. Are you saying I can keep the AOL if I call or do I have to already be switched over? If I switch over they have a new thing where I can keep AOL for about so much a month. Do I have to sign up for that first? I'm lost here and really need to do something. :thanks:

I am pretty sure you have to have your internet service already connected so I would make the switch first, use the aol service with it and then call and cancel. Then they should offer you the free service. When you sign up for Aol thru them just let them know you now have AOL and you will be able to keep your screennames.
I would double check this info with the cable company before switching to be sure.
Hope this helps

Thanks for posting about this! I just called and told them I heard there was a new deal that if you had a broadband service that you can now get AOL free. He got right to changing me over, but did mention it was not available to all. So it never hurts to call and try it!

Does this promo have an expiration date? i have dsl at home but am going to disney soon and might want to use my 3 hrs. of dial up that i get with my 4.95 plan. Just wondering if i can wait til i get back to make the "free" switch.
