Anyone's teenager ever have the shingles?

How is she feeling?

She has just kept right on going, but she says it is painful. She looks so tired and did actually admit last night that she was feeling tired. She had to be at school this morning at 7:15 a.m. for a club activity and is going to dinner and a movie after school with the club officers. She never wants to slow down. I hope it is a lot better by next week as she has high school cheerleading try-outs next Friday.

Thank you for asking.

Glad to hear it...but She's allowed to go to school?

Is shingles contagious?
Yes, people with shingles are contagious to persons who have not had chickenpox. Therefore, people who have not had chickenpox can catch chickenpox if they have close contact with a person who has shingles. However, you can not catch shingles itself from someone else. Shingles is caused by the chickenpox virus which has been dormant (staying quiet) in your body ever since you had chickenpox. So, you get shingles from your own chickenpox virus, not from someone else.

This is sort of interesting. I don't know if it's just power of suggestion, but I think I might have shingles! I haven't been feeling well for several weeks and I've had one patch of painful, blistery rash on my stomach. I've been treating them seperately, trying to get rid of the rash and trying to just keep going with what I thought was a light version of the flu or not coping well with some stress in my life. When I looked at the pictures from the link above - my rash looks just like that!

It is healing now so I'm not planning on going in, but I'll probably always wonder if that's what it was.

I asked the doctor and he said she shouldn't be around anyone undergoing chemotherapy or with a compromised immune system. He didn't tell her to stay out of school. I wish he had.

I had shingles last year, It was the worst pain i have ever had, and I have had 2 C sections. the only thing that sped up the entire event and help them crust over quicker was this very specfic vitamin therapy, follow it exactly , my dr gave it to me, but you may want to ask her dr. if this vitamins and these doses are okay but it really helped me.
Vitamin A 10,000 to 25,000 IU daily for five days stop for two days then continue for five days
Vitamin D 1000 IU daily for five days stop for two days then continue for five days
VitaminBComplex 100mg time released one in the am and one in the pm for 14days
Vitamin C 1000-2000 mg with rose hips and riboflavin one in the am and one in the pm for 14 days
This really worked for me, along with Famvir and zovriax cream. good luck :grouphug:

I had shingles when I was 17. At the time, I had absolutely no clue what that rash was!! My rash was in a "big line", on my left side. I don't remember alot of pain, but I remember being baffled and wondering what on Earth caused that horrible rash. It was huge, red, raised and all clustered together. I never told my parents since they were very naive and wouldn't have brought me to a doctor (they would have found a way to dismiss it). I thought of going to the school nurse, but I was scared of her. :(

So I just bought the biggest bandaids that were ever made, and tried to cover up the rash on my side. I remember it took many days before I finally saw the rash "crusting" over, and I remember being overjoyed that the rash finally was starting to heal. Only years later I was looking at a medical book and I recognized the rash and then I finally knew it was shingles.

I had shingles when I was 14.....I had gotten a bad sunburn and we originally thought the bumps were due to the sunburn....I had them on my left shoulder and chest....The dr. dx them...when I got sick....My mom said I had a very very mild case of chicken pox....almost not noticable....When I was 27, in my first trimester of preg....I caught a moderate case of the chicken pox from my then 9 yr old dd....The dr said that the mild case put the virus in my system but didnt give me a full immunity, a few yrs later I had another flair up of shingles on my shoulder (same place)...They are miserable
