I filed a dispute on a charge on my Chase VISA card. This was for a deposit on a sofa and recliner but the store can't get the color upholstery that I had ordered. The order form states that there is a 10% fee on cancelled orders but, since THEY are the ones cancelling the order by means of not able to provide what I had ordered, I don't feel that I should be charged ANY fee and that I should get my full deposit back. The lady at the store filled out a form to send to "corporate" to start the refund process but she said it could take up to 10 days for my refund to be processed. This was 12 days ago. I smell a rat. Drove past the store the other day and, lo and behold, there are "Going out of business for restructuring" signs all over the place!! :furious:

So, after seeing that, I filed an online dispute on that charge that hit my account a few weeks ago. When I filed I got a message that Chase would contact me in a few days (I think it was 3-5 days). I haven't heard anything yet but I did only file on Wednesday afternoon.

Have you disputed a charge with Chase? How did it go?

Watch your account. Most of the time you will see the credit and no bank contact. Chase will contact the company and the company will have to prove the charge. This could take awhile. While in dispute mode you shouldnt be charged and no interest. Ive been on both ends.

Unlike Paypal, credit card companies don't win a dispute simply because they are unable to charge back the merchant, say the merchant went out of business.

Be sure to follow the instructions on the back of your credit card bill for filing disputes, including meeting deadlines. Communication should be in writing.

My DS used my account to join a gym, paid for the whole year in advance when he signed up. Two weeks later, gym locks it's doors and are out of business. Contacted the lawyers # that was on the gym door for inquiries and was told it would be months before the case had gone through court and the likelihood of patrons getting their money back was nil as the creditors would get paid first. Called Chase and explained the situation (transaction had gone through already, obviously) and they refunded my account the whole amount and said they would go after the gym or eat it. I LOVE my Disney/Chase card!

They only thing I'm surprised about is that you haven't been contacted by Chase yet. Have you checked the snail mail and your email junk folders? Everything should work in your favor in this instance, it just may take awhile to complete based on the info with the store going out of business.

I filed a dispute once and it took a long time to resolve, but it was eventually taken care of. In the meantime chase gave me a provisional credit.

Is has only been 2 business days and the message said 3-5 days. Not even time for something to come in the mail.

Actually it went very well.
I find credit card companies are very accommodating to their customers. We disputed a charge on our chase visa for a resort in the Bahamas. long story short, we got there and it was a dive. pictures of the resort where actually from the place next door. LOL called chase immediately, as in while we were standing at the desk in the lobby and lodged a complaint. they were super nice and immediately removed the charge.

That and another great experience with my American express is a reason why any large purchases or vacations always go on my credit card. find it is so much easier getting restitution when you've got them picking at the vendor.

Good luck

Oh and document every phone call or correspondence.

I did a dispute with Chase Visa a couple years ago. They gave me a "courtesy credit" on my account, while they investigated. A few days later, I received an email asking me to mail or fax and documentation. I faxed the documentation that day.

I never heard anything again, but the credit was never reversed, so I knew they found in my favor!

I made a complaint, Chase said they would credit me and then contact the vendor so they could have their say. The vendor was really shady and never contacted Chase so the credit stayed on my account. I have had great customer service with my Chase accounts.

I made a dispute back in May, I got a letter about a week later. It took about 2 months for it to be resolved. I was very impressed with Chase customer service.

Thanks everyone for your replies. This is the first time I've ever disputed a charge that I actually made. No, it hasn't been very long since I filed the claim online but I'm anxious due to the store going out of business. Will their last day open be today or will they be there through the end of September? I don't know but I don't want to be stuck waiting for months to get my money back and I don't want Chase to be stuck either. I want that danged smarmy business to fork over my money.

Ya know, my spidey senses were tingling when I was there making the original deal. Sigh. Should've listened to my gut. I always wind up regretting not listening to my gut.

When I filed the claim (went through the Customer Service - Dispute a Charge link), I did get the message that the disputed amount will not be due and it will not accrue interest charges while it's being investigated. :thumbsup2 If Chase is trying to contact the business to get their side, I have a feeling that their calls aren't being returned. :tiptoe:

I just disputed a charge to chase over the summer. You'll probably hear from someone next week after the holiday.

I have, and it went well. But I called. Call the number on the card or check the website and ask to talk to someone about a dispute. It took 60 days or something for it to be considered "final", while they checked with the seller (an online blind I ordered was the wrong size and the vendor insisted it wasn't--and wanted me to pay to send it back to them so they could determine if it was their error.) I won. While waiting those 60 days, the charge was removed, then Chase sent a card that said it would be permanent.

You may have difficulty winning a dispute if the problem does not show up until long after the credit card company's deadline for filing a dispute.

But in some cases you will still win a dispute if the merchant gives you nothing at all for your payment, for example you show up at the airport and there is nothing at the gate besides a sign saying "Out of Business". The legal principle involved is that one may not take money and give nothing in exchange and the credit card company was the "one" who actually took your money.

Beware (be aware, not absolutely positively shy away from doing) when ordering things from far away places such as China. If you get something and it is the wrong item, you don't really want to have to send it back in order to get a refund.

I love my local bank and my local S&L, but this is why we put all large charges on our Chase card. I've never once had a complaint that Chase didn't take care of in a timely manner no matter when I've called or from where I've called. In fact, once my card # was stolen and they got overzealous and took off a valid charge amongst the invalid charges, so I had to call to get the charge put back on! :thumbsup2

I actually have 2 Chase cards (Disney and Airline) so that if I ever have problems on one during a trip, I have a backup, because I do not want to use my S&L or Bank cards on any trip, ever.

My friends and I belong to an organization and paid to attend their yearly conference. A month after registering, this company filed for bankruptcy. We all disputed the charges with our credit card companies. Many of my friends had used their Chase cards and were promptly refunded their monies. All of us eventually got our money back, but my friends with the Chase cards were among the first. I was very impressed with Chase's customer service.
