Anyone watching Swingtown?

If people really want to watch a provocative, incredibly well-done period piece set in the late 20th century, forget Swingtown (which is really nothing more than an attempt to replicate Sex in the City on network prime time) and wait a few weeks to start watching the second season of AMC's Mad Men. The latter is the best drama on TV, hands down.

This show is such my guilty pleasure!!! No redeeming value whatsoever, just the perfect nighttime soap. :goodvibes I actually didn't like last week's episode where Janet went over to the dark side. Talk about life-changing!! In real life, it'd be really hard to sober up and realize what you just did.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to be a bummer. I like the show best when it's just being goofy.
I thought it was great for her to loosen up....when she woke up I nearly died laughing:lmao: Lets see what happens with her....her DH is hot;)
LOVE the show. I missed the first 2 episodes but caught them on the computer...and I am hooked. DH says it wont last long. I beg to differ. Like someone else said, mindless entertainment. And I soooo loved the 70's and point out items and clothing we had from the show. :rotfl: My Thursday night time maching.
I missed them too and watched them "on demand"....I love that. I watch TV specifically for "mindless" entertainment....so this is PERFECT:goodvibes
I LOVE this show! I hope it sticks around or if it's cancelled HBO picks it up. I don't know if it'll make it past the season though.

I hope it does stick around.....I love it:lovestruc

Really--Sex had swingers on it? And funky old '70's music? And homes/clothes from the '70's? I missed those episodes!
A huge part of the fun of Swingtown is its setting.
And I don't know that Janet went completely over to the dark side. Though she could stand to eat a few more hashbrownies!

Alldiz, yes I have a huge crush on Roger!! I also like the subplots involving the kids. The kids actually ride their bikes everywhere, just like everyone did back then. I like all the silly details too, like someone mentioned the flashcube camera. One episode they were in Trina's kitchen and the colors were so trippy. I think the walls were red, with lots of chrome everywhere.

I guess I live in a weird neighborhood (ok, maybe old-fashioned)... kids still ride thier bikes everywhere! They ride to school, library, stores, friends houses, etc.

The only thing different is that the kids have cell phones.

I have been picking apart errors in the set design though: This is from this week's show

This week when the daughter carried down a laundry basket--it was clearly a more modern basket-- I bought the same one at Target last year. It wouldn't have been that hard to find a 70's laundry basket at a flea market/garage/estate stale.

DH thought the TV in the kitchen was a bit much as well. He was born in the early 60's and does not remember small TV's being in the kitchen until the early to mid 80's. According to him, those smaller TV's would be used in a bedroom instead of a kitchen. (At least that was the case in his affluent suburban neighborhood in the 70's)

Add me to the list of people watching. It's highly unusual for me to watch television during the summer months never mind trash tv but I actually found myself laughing out loud during last week's episode. I was in high school in the mid-70s and I can relate to the kids on the show a bit and the parents a bit, I'm just between the two generations. Unfortunately, my parents were real squares;) , never ate a potbrownie and pretty sure that the "key" parties were things only others did but... maybe I'm just kiddin myself:lmao:

I didnt' think sex and the city.....I thought the fact that the couples were "experimenting" made it different. I guess my imagination didn't carry it to a "singes" sex show:goodvibes ...I'll have to check out Mad men.

Yes....I think she might want a few more brownies;)

Something about him that is soooo cute....more my type....the quiet one;)

Ok.....semi dweeb here.....what is a "key" party?:headache:

My understanding of a key party is that all the men (husbands) throw their car keys into a basket on their way into the party and as each woman is "ready" to go home, she grabs a set of keys and voila! you have just been chosen as her ride home (and partner for a little fun). I first heard of this in a movie called "Ice Storm" I think starring Kevin Spacey? Terrible movie BTW.

I grew up during the 70's--very middle class--and yes, many of my friends had tvs in the kitchen. Why, I don't know--there were only like 15 channels to choose from at the time! Maybe to watch "Happy Days" or "Starsky and Hutch?"

I LOVE this show. I only started watching because my mom was telling me it was supposed to be really risque but she got bored half way through the first episode and fell asleep, but her friend watched and said it wasn't bad. So I was curious and saw the first episode, which I thought was not good, but not bad, just ok. Decided to give it another chance and now I'm hooked.

The one thing that really bugs me, though, is how Trina looks. She doesn't look like she fits in in the 70s. Of course I was born in '90, so what do I know? It's just that, to me, she looks like she could go to a mall anywhere in the US today and fit right in.

Interesting. He remembers TV in the bedrooms being more of a thing than TVs in the kitchen-- same with all his friends/family. Maybe it's either a generational or location thing.

I'm also totally into this show.

My take on Janet being more willing to get into the act, not necessarily the swinging, but just not being as possessive of Susan, is that Janet needs to be liked. She doesn't seem like she has a lot of friends.

I love this show! It took a couple of episodes to get into it, but now I love it! I hope they continue it into the fall at least!

The early word on Swingtown was that this burn-off -- a series intended as a mid-season replacement (as announced on May 16, 2007), but it didn't work out (perhaps because of the writers' strike), and so they're just burning the episodes they have (13 episodes) off over the summer (through August 28), and that'll be it.

Of course, if a billion people watch it, they'll probably change their minds, but given the network's perspective regarding the show going into the summer, folks should not get their hopes up. Regardless, it was not picked up for the regular season, nor is it planned as a mid-season replacement for next year.

Wow.....what rock have I been living under:headache: DOH....I learn something every day:goodvibes

Loved those shows....of course I would throw Wonder Woman in there....or was that the 80's?

Yeah....Trina could go in any decade.....but she's that cute cheerleader type that fits in the popular crowd at any time;)

ahem....I wonder how much Janet will do to be liked:rolleyes1 ....I think Susan has a crush and vice/versa with Janet's DH.

We all have to keep watching and pass it on:goodvibes

Aarrgh....figures.....things I like usually go off the air:sad2: Ok....dis'ers....we have to get this show on the permanent schedule.:goodvibes

I actually liked the The Ice Storm movie (speaking of key parties)

I think the character of Trina does have a younger look than the other two female character. IRL, the actress is younger than both of those ladies. My mom was a very young mom in the 70's, and some of the wardrobe choices are similar my mom wore. For example, in this weeks episdoe, Trina wore a red one piece shorts outfit at the lake house. My mom had a similar one but not until 1979.

ah, the 70s....

graduated high school in 1975 - remember the clothing very well

swingtown does a good job recreating the look and feel

remember wearing platform shoes - these days, it's tevas for me....

(all those twisted ankles!)

I watched for the 1st time last week. I loved it! Do you think it meant that the 3 women did more than sleep? Or was Janet just upset because she woke up with the other 2? I hope this isn't like the series Cane last year. I LOVED that show and it was cancelled right in the middle of the story.:sad2:

I'm loving Swingtown. I catch it on demand on Sunday evenings. I think '70s music is the BEST! And I 've got a crush on Roger:love: (though Bruce & Grant Show (Tom?) aren't bad either!

Aw, Bicker! Every time I see you in a television series discussion, you're the bearer of bad news. I hate to do it, but I might have to put you on ignore before you tell me that another favorite show of mine may be canceled.
