Anyone up to helping me sort out my trip situation? So confused.

So I have a DVC reservation at Boardwalk for January 1-9, 2021. It is to be me and 4 extended family members. I have an AP, which was to expire on 12-1-20, but has now been extended until 4/27/21 unless I ask for a refund before August 11. The other family members have not purchased their tickets yet because of all the COVID uncertainty.

Our original plan was to do 6 days of parks and they would buy hoppers. I thought that people can only reserve one park per day for the foreseeable future, so hoppers would be out of the question. But I see that Undercover Tourist is still selling park hoppers. What am I missing?

Also, I'm confused about how many park days I could reserve in advance, with me having an AP and the others having a standard park ticket (or hopper?). I read that resort guests can reserve park days for the length of their stay, but then I also read that people can reserve up to 3 park days, and then add one at a time as they use each one. That doesn't make any sense, as people wouldn't know how many park days to purchase in advance and they may not get last minute additional park reservations. Again, what am I missing?

Is there any issue or difference in limitations because one in our party (me) would have an AP, while the others would have different tickets? Any issue in current circumstances if they purchased from a 3rd party (like UT) instead of directly from WDW?

I can't make any park reservations at all until the others decide whether or not to buy tickets. We're really undecided on taking this trip at all. Nobody relishes the idea of having to wear a mask all day, which may easily still be required by January. It doesn't help that I only have until August 11 to decide whether to ask for an AP refund (which is anybody's guess how much a refund would be, as the equation they are using hasn't been released - but that's another story.)

It feels like such a mess because I'm so confused. Can anyone help clear any of this up for me? Thanks so much!!

Disney (and UT and other third party sellers) are selling Park Hoppers for 2021, in the hopes that hopping is permitted by then. If it is not, I'm sure Disney will refund the extra cost of the option, as they are doing now. Personally, I'd buy base tickets and add hopper when you arrive, if it is available and you want to use it.

The 3-day rolling park pass reservation policy applies to passholders who do NOT have qualifying resort reservations. Since you have a reservation at a Disney resort, you can book for length of stay (including both checkin and checkout days). For ticket holders, that is up to the number of ticket days they have, of course.

No difference at all. They can book the number of days they have tickets for. Doesn't matter where they get them. As an AP, you can book as many days as you are staying at a qualifying resort, plus 3 days outside the stay, if you want.

Take a breath -- don't overthink it!

Thanks so much! You were really helpful and gave me some clarity. Now that I understand better, it will be fine. We just have to decide what we want to do.
