Anyone thinking of skipping a year or two due to construction?

We are doing this June and next then taking a break. But we aren't an every year type of family. I'd love it if we were but we like to visit other places as well and can only afford the one big trip each year.

Yes. We've decided to skip WDW this year and try Disneyland instead. It's our first time there which is quite exciting yet strangely unfamiliar as there seems to be so much less planning required.
Disneyland is very different from WDW. If you are a big planner, DL will drive you crazy. They do not get in a hurry for anything. Last year, I think I was able to plan our visit with MHP and park times in July or August. Our trip was the first of October. I was constantly frustrated with DL because they are very slow getting things out. The 2 parks are a great experience and every Disney lover should go. I won't go back because they caused me too much anxiety but I'm glad I went. Don't miss CARS LAND in DCA. It is amazing!!!!

We already have a trip booked for October but after that I don't think we'll be back until 2019. This will be hard but . . . . We are probably going to Universal next year and Disneyland in 2018. If construction isn't completed (or at least almost done at HS) then we'll wait another year.

Uh oh. I am a big planner and have a full itinerary when I go to WDW. What do you mean they aren't in a hurry? They don't announce park hours or special events?

Ok that is just crazy talk. There is more to Disney world than parks. Just ask the couple who helped us polish off a 12 year old Balvenie by the quiet pool last September........I hope they made it back to their room...

Sounds like I stayed at the wrong resort last September...
That's interesting. So people stay at the resorts without going to the parks?

We only go every 2-3 years. We went in Jan 2014, again in November 2015 and won't be back until February 2017, although I'd like to go back before then but it probably won't happen even though I'd like to. The construction doesn't worry me, there is still plenty to do.

My husband and I stay 4 or 5 nights and will usually only go 1 day to the parks. We are hoarding our no-expiration tickets like you wouldn't believe.[/QUOTE
Where do you usually stay? I'm kind of surprised because the resorts are pretty expensive compared to comparable offsite hotels. Is it the theming that brings you there?

I had to look up what Balvenie is and when I did, it made me smile :). I agree the parks are not everything. Just getting down in the Florida sun and relaxing and eating some good food and meeting other people is wonderful.

Yep We are not going back for a couple of years. We have a 1 night stay on Sept. 30, just to go to DTD before our week at the beach. To much construction and to many walls.

We have only been once, and of course we all fell in love. That was April 2015, we are heading back April 2018. Mostly because of finances and my children being at good ages. The construction does make my heart hurt a little less about the wait though!

I originally wanted to wait until Pandora was open, but my kids aren't getting any younger so I decided to go this year. If we go again as a family, it will be in 2019, and Pandora, Star Wars and Toy Story land should all be open by then.

I've been this year already and Loved the Star Wars Fireworks! Am going again this year.

We've decided to delay. With the construction and price increases we will take a few years off. It's hard but the kids are excited to discover new places.

No, I never skip for construction. I will avoid areas if they are too congested for my comfort but stay away? No. WE skipped AK a few years ago when there was a lot of walls up, as well as DTD before the new name, DS. I get a little claustrophobic and knew I would not do well. But we just went to other parks more often! I am not plannign to skip a trip due to anticipated construction in DHS either. If I stay away if will have more to do with how I feel about fees and charges that have been slipped into the surveys than constructions and closures for refurb.

Nope. Hopefully Disney will continue with the construction and refurbishments for quite a while. I don't think there should ever be a point where the parks are all done and nothing being worked on.

We will definitely cut back, but because of factors other than construction. Number 1 being cost. It gets more and more expensive every year, and not just ticket prices, as well as more crowded. Two, my DGD will start school, so we'll have to now go at what I would consider less favorable times for me and my family. Because we will be going without kids and grandkids, DH and I will now go back to our timeshare which is just a mile away from DS.
ETA: we were considering APs but the price soared so we ended up with APs from "that other place". The last couple of trips we either haven't gone there or have only spent 1 day, but this time (obviously) we will go more, plus for our September trip we may only do 1 Disney day. We are also Busch Gardens (Williamsburg) AP holders, so we will be doing Sea World and go to Tampa to visit that park.
