Anyone thinking of skipping a year or two due to construction?

I hate to tell you guys this, but for those of you skipping Disneyworld because of construction...DLR is my home park and its under heavy construction as well, so bad that I'm trying to avoid it for the next couple of years.

I guess it doesn't matter if you go to Disneyworld or Disneyland, both are under construction. IMHO, construction in Disneyland is worse because it is a much smaller park and has huge crowds due to locals.

I saw two people alluding to the idea that Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land will be open by 2019... unfortunately, that is definitely not a timetable Disney is working with at this time. The one poster that talks about 2021 is probably more on target, and even then, those expansions may open in stages.

After this year's trip in November, we don't foresee ourselves returning to either WDW or DL until at least 2018 or 2019.
We may spend a week at Universal Orlando in the interim; we haven't been there since 2010.

We just started vacationing at Disney in 2011 and witnessed the Fantasyland expansion, the Hub renovation, and the AK changes. Frankly, I'm sick of paying out the nose to feel like a hamster in a maze with all the walls. We won't go back until after Star Wars. Hopefully by then they'll have worked out some other kinks as well and Disney will be enjoyable again.

We spent less days at Disney this past trip. Normally we go every day we can, but I get tired of the construction walls so we just did two magic kingdom days and a water park. We will be back to Orlando next year and I expect it'll be similar unless i hear things are more settled

We do not go every year usually. I would like to do a girls trip with friends next December. My next certain trip after that is 2020 for my niece's band performance trip. Hoping lots will be done by then.

Last time I went, they were in the thick of things with the Fantasyland construction. My reaction to it was "Oh, a wall" and I walked to my next destination. It doesn't really bother me at all, personally. Especially since they tend to decorate the walls (the ones I saw had fake goofy posters and such on them).

Yes. We are doing one afternoon at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian during our beach trip this year (food and shopping) We won't return to the parks until late 2017/ early 2018, depending on when Pandora looks to be done.

Between all the construction, price increases and cutback the DW and I don't see going back until 2018, maybe even later, and renting out our DVC points.

We made the decision to skip 2016, on our last day of vacation in Dec. - it was renew the APs for next year or? We decided not to renew the APs, for one thing the new blackout date APs made planning hard as we wouldn't know when the 2016 black out days were and didn't want to waste money on the more expensive ones if we didn't have to. Plus they come w/ photopass, which we've never used so a waste of money there. But mostly it was being tired of things not yet completed again and walking through mazes of construction walls.
We fly cross country & typically stay 10-11 nights usually in Dec.. We'll probably return late 2017, when hopefully the Pandora stuff @ least will be done and some of the 'newness' will have worn off so that it won't be ridiculously mobbed. W/ all the Shanghai cost over run fall out w/ higher prices & penny pinching by WDW I'm glad we made the decision to skip a year.

upcoming trip in a few days and planning on going back this fall or early winter.

Yes. We are. Went late 2014 and was trying to plan a trip for this year but just too much construction, changes, and unknowns. Planning on late 2017 now.

After this trip I'm thinking 2023. Unless there is some huge about-face I will likely wait until my now 3 & 5 year olds are 10 & 12.

We will be visiting for 7 nights in May for dd high school graduation, and after this, yes, we'll most likely skip a year or two. Though it hurts my heart to say that!

I was thinking of skipping for much longer but we might be going to Universal and maybe I can work in a day at a Disney park during that time. It isn't high priority though.

Yes withholding a visit for quite a while. It seems like most traffic will put more people into MK with what's going on at DHS & AK. Sorry but the value of WDW isn't what it used to be.

Uh oh. I am a big planner and have a full itinerary when I go to WDW. What do you mean they aren't in a hurry? They don't announce park hours or special events?

I can see what the responding poster meant about DL being much more laid back. We went the beginning of July 2014 and it was a very different experience for me. I'm a very detailed planner and I was used to WDW. We got to DL and aside from a few ADRs (I highly recommend Blue Bayou and Napa Rose), I just threw all my planning out the window and just went with the flow. (Must be that "California Vibe" lol). Disneyland Park is almost identical to MK and California Adventure is an easy park to navigate. The entrances to each park face each other. It's literally like a 1 minute walk between the two parks and DTD is adjacent to both. So there is basically no transportation or travel times to factor in when planning your day. We stayed at The Grand Californian and there is a back entrance to CA in their pool area for their resort guests. It was such a relaxing and awesome experience to spend the first part of our CA day in the park and then pool time at our hotel while we waited on our Grizzly River Run FP time. There's just not as much ground to cover but both parks were a blast! We especially loved The Matterhorn, Radiator Springs Racer and California Screemin' which are all unique to DL. We have a WDW trip planned for Sept. that is specifically for my DDs surprise 16th (we haven't seen the Fantasyland expansion yet) but after that we will probably spend our future trips at DL until some of the under construction attractions at WDW debut. (Maybe DL Paris can fit in there somewhere!!)

We are skipping WDW this year but not due to the construction. For the foreseeable future we have decided to do a cycle of 2 years at WDW then 1 year to DL. DL obviously has a lot of construction of their own going on right now. We are most disappointed about F! , Tom Sawyer Island and the Railroad being closed.

For me, a trip to wdw is not about the new stuff they have- sure, I get excited about it, but honestly I just love "being" there. About every 18 months is good for us. We stay off site only a couple miles from the gate and it makes it way more affordable.
