Anyone thinking of skipping a year or two due to construction?

I'm not planning a full WDW vacation for at least several more years. A day in one of the parks, or a Halloween party is possible, however.

I was hoping to head back this year, but now I'm reconsidering due to all of the closures/construction. I went last year and feel like I'd be returning to less at a greater price. (Due to ticket increases and also because I was looking to upgrade from a value resort to Mod or deluxe split stay.) My brother moved to LA last year and I may visit him and give DLR a try while I'm there. (I know it too is under construction, but i've never been and there would be new experiences available to me. Plus it would only be a small part of my trip.) Is anyone else feeling like it's hard to justify going right now with so much coming up in the next few years? Why or why not? Maybe I want my mind changed! Thanks!

We were but then just now booked for this september... We had thought about it,, but you know what? The kids are not getting any younger, nor we..so we decided to keep going...

I definitely see what you're saying about offsite hotels being less expensive...I guess we are in a different situation. Both my husbands and my parents live in Orlando so we like to spend a couple of days out at Disney when visiting family and friends. We grew up there and moved away a few years ago. We usually end up staying at Wilderness Lodge, POFQ, or PO but have stayed at most of the hotels. Our next trip this summer we are using a UOC (pin code) for Polynesian (3 nights) and POFQ (2 nights) for 5 nights. We will go to the parks during the POFQ portion of our trip. We have visited at least once (sometimes twice) each year since we moved away booking bounceback offers. With the hotels being more expensive we actually feel like we make the price worth it by not going into the parks everyday. We always had some form of Florida Resident annual pass before moving so it is hard for us to justify the price of tickets for a quick trip. We bought 10 park hopper + wpfm no-expiration tickets for our honeymoon in 2013 and still have 3 days left on that and purchased another set from Undercover Tourist right before Disney stopped selling them. We definitely love going to the parks but we're still getting used to the out of state pricing @Mom of Jack 2009 !

We visited once or twice a year, but after the price increases and having so many things closed we are not returning for a few years. Our last trip was in March and while we enjoyed it we just feel we need to try other places for a few years. I think it was a combination of having so many of our favorite attractions temporarily closed, ADR's needed for everything, being offered tiered parking for an additional price and the ticket price increase.

We have visited WDW every year at least once since 2012. We have a trip planned for June, but I'm going to (try to) take a break for a few years.

Construction is part of it, but also cost and a desire to do other things... like cruising or Aulani.

I'm going to try to take a break until Star Wars Land opens. We'll see how it goes. I think I planned to break starting this year at one point, and next thing I knew I had a June trip booked. So...

:confused3

We went twice in 2014. My Wife had never been before. We're good for a while until they get more new stuff. We went to Universal in January and we're going back in December. Plus there are many other places we want to go. It will probably be a couple years before we go back to WDW. Or maybe I'll get a good PIN.

Uh oh. I am a big planner and have a full itinerary when I go to WDW. What do you mean they aren't in a hurry? They don't announce park hours or special events?
You will have a good time but, you have to go in with the idea that you're pretty much winging everything until the last minute. We went the second week of October last year. I am a FULL planner down to the smallest thing. I was very frustrated with them and I griped at least once a week to my dh. I even told the DL cast members on the phone how unhappy I was with them and that they needed to take some lessons from WDW. I was able to reserve hotel and tickets early. No problem. I could not schedule which park I was attending each day, rides/shows, meals, MHP until about a month before. They are later putting everything out than WDW. The days for the MHP didn't even come out until late July or so. In late August, they still couldn't decide when they were showing parades and fireworks. Like I said, being used to being able to plan everything 6 mths to a year in advance, I hated it. I've heard they are slower because their guests are mostly local. If you can make it through the pre-trip, you'll have a great time. They are very nice parks. Especially DL. I'm just too OCD to have to deal with their relaxed way of doing things.

DW and DS no longer go so DD and I are it. DD wants to go with her buds this fall so I don't see me going until maybe fall 2017. With all the construction going on I really won't miss it that much. I can wait for Pandora to open but not sure if I can hold out much longer.

We're not skipping, but we have reevaluated our itinerary. HS is usually a multi-day park for us - I know a lot is still open, but for our next vacation we will be spending two half days there and that's it.

If I waited until the construction is done, we'd never go back to Disney. And if I waited for Star Wars Land or Toy Story, it would be a minimum of five years before we went back. This is Disney - there's no way those two areas will be fully open and operational at any point before 2021.

While I am VERY disappointed BTMR will be closed this summer, it is our honeymoon so we are not rescheduling. This will be our sixth summer in a row & we will probably go next year as well, hopefully with a little one in tow.

Depends if they offer Free Dining in December. No FD and we will go to Universal again. We skipped WDW and did UO for 11 days last December.

Yup. My AP expires today and DS8's expires in May. We aren't renewing. We have gone multiple times a year since 2011, but until Soarin', Frozen and the AKL nighttime attractions open, we've pretty much been-there-done-that. I don't think we will go at all in 2016.

We had decided to skip this year, due to a combination of price increases, construction, and the fact that our youngest DD will be only 9 months old in December when we like to go. The other day, though, I made a comment to my husband about being "homesick" for Disney. Then I was having a horrible weekend and actually ended up in the ER with a gallbladder problem, and he surprised me by telling me he had booked a trip for our anniversary. I still have my reservations, but I'm hoping all the stuff going on will actually put a lag on crowds. This past year's trip was INSANE with the last year of Osbourne lights, and it will be nice to have it toned down a little bit. I'm optimistic!

Going in June this year. Will be our 4th in 5 years. We plan on skipping next year because of construction and the fact that the magic disappears if you spend too much time there. It will be nice to see some new stuff in 2018.

Does anyone know when Pandora is supposed to be completed and if it's running on schedule? It's not the fact that there is physical construction that is deterring me. Aside from it happening at my resort I'm cool with that. I went in 2014 before fantasy land was completed and it was exciting to see 7dmt being built. It's the higher prices plus all the closures in HS without anything new. (Plus, as it happens BTMR will be closed during the time we would attend which is my ds's favorite ride.) I think I'm interested in going again once Pandora is open and then definitely when Star Wars Land is complete. While it sounds cute, my DS at 7 has already sort of outgrown some of the little kid rides (i.e. barnstormer) so I don't know that Toy Story Land will have much to offer him as it struck me as more kiddie carnival rides with a Toy Story Theme. I could be wrong about that though.

Considering they're always doing some sort of construction I would always be putting off trips if I was always waiting for the next thing to open. I just see it as things I can look forward to for next time.

We are doing this June and next then taking a break. But we aren't an every year type of family. I'd love it if we were but we like to visit other places as well and can only afford the one big trip each year.

Exactly us as well

Yes. We've decided to skip WDW this year and try Disneyland instead. It's our first time there which is quite exciting yet strangely unfamiliar as there seems to be so much less planning required.

Same here, our next Disney trip will be Disneyland

I've done DLR twice but its was when I was 7 (1981) and then back in 2002. When my boys are a little older, I definitely want to take them. Maybe rent an RV and go during the summer (we are in GA and I'm a teacher).
