Anyone stockpiling food?

There's a nice elderly couple a few doors down in our townhouse complex. I've passed by their house a few times when their garage door is open. Those people have enough water, Diet Pepsi and Coors Lights to last a year. There are cases stacked to the ceiling on one entire wall. In case of quarantine or zombie apocalypse, I will be hanging out with them!
Never stock Coors light during a zombie apocalypse. Zombies mark their hunting territories with zombie pee and therefore will be attracted to wherever Coors light is stored.

My husband is a worrier too. Told me to buy extra at the store tomorrow.

It's not a bad idea to have a small stockpile all the time for any emergency that might occur. Maybe I'll be wrong, but I'm not concerned except for the fact that people are stupid and might cause chaos because they start panicking.

Nope.

We had a suspected case taken off a plane here yesterday. The good news is that she has tested negative for Coronavirus.

I should, but I don’t care about germs that much. I will be more careful now though because I am a person with a weakened immune system and I’d have to come down with something serious that could have been avoided. I have bronchitis right now and it is kicking my butt. So, I’ll be wiping down my cubicle at work everyday because we have shared spaces.

i decided to go ahead and check my supply of the regular otc meds we use just to make an order while the costco ad is still in effect and b/c i would prefer not to spend any time at the pharmacy or in the meds aisle at the store. DANG, both on costco and walmart many simple basic otc meds are already showing as out of stock or back ordered.

I will admit to full on prepping for my own household, as well as making a zombie apocalypse box of medicine and sanitizing supplies for my daughter and her boyfriend. We'll all get sick--I really don't think this can be contained--but at least we'll have cough drops and Gatorade. I basically bought what I thought it would take if everyone had the flu for 2 weeks at once and we were stuck, sick in the house.

Yes. Going shopping to stockpile in a few minutes. Lol.
Mostly because it’s supposed to snow all weekend.
I've always wondered this, how is it that people think they can't survive a mere weekend of snow and have to stockpile? Not you specifically, you lol'ed it. But every time we are going to die in Pennsylvania from a dusting of 2 inches, the stores are packed and shelves are emptied.

My freezer is completely packed. Can't even fit all 4 of my ice cube trays in it, only 2 are in. Unfortunately the size of my freezer means I could make it 2, maybe 3 days if I stretch it, LOL.

I do know there is 300+ lb of beef at my supplier and 3 or 4 more cows being butchered soon. I'll just go there :D

I love that people are stocking up. It means that if they get a cold or regular flu (or Coronavirus, even a very mild case) they’ll be all set at home and won’t feel like they need to get out to the store when they’re contagious and out of milk or tea or canned soup, crackers, Advil, tampons, toilet paper, etc. It’s no fun to have to go to the store when you’re sick or when your child is sick.

My parents told me that when they went to Costco, they were completely out of certain food items. Don't remember exactly what it was, but they've got a run on some foods that don't require a whole lot of preparation.

i never understand the big grabs for bread products. of all things we could live without for even an extended period of time-bread would be at the top of the list. water i understand, powdered milk maybe-but wonder bread:crazy2:?

Welp, there ya go. Back orderd otc meds. I see it has started already. :sad2:

We could manage without milk way longer than bread. My kids love PB&J sandwiches and it's such an easy thing to do in a pinch. Even with four kids sometimes our milk will expire before it's gone. But we go through like two loaves a week of whole wheat bread.

I’ve actually never seen shelves emptied before snowstorms around me. Sometimes I’ll even go to the grocery store during a blizzard thinking crowds will be light, to find out nope, it’s business as usual. Nobody seems to notice or care about the weather outside.

This is good news. I’m in Toronto and had read about this woman.

We are stocking up. Canned goods, powdered milk, meds, TP, the works. Concerned about a break in supply or quarantine. There are six of us to feed, so it’s a lot of food for two weeks.

None of it will go to waste (well maybe the powdered milk). It’s all stuff we routinely eat anyway. I’ll just use it all as part of my working pantry.

I placed an order for SONO wipes from Amazon. They are on backorder. I have never seen that before.
They were on back order a week ago, too, and mine showed up yesterday. We use them a lot, and I've never seen that either. Hand sanitizer is going the way of masks locally, too, and flying off the shelves.

I don't "stockpile" but I do have an upright freezer in the basement so we buy a lot of stuff to freeze when on sale; meat, veggies, bagels etc and I have pantry shelving in the basement for lots of extra canned beans, broth, boxes of cereal, pasta, etc. So that I can always throw together some kind of meal even if I'm low on fresh items. DH goes to Sam's club once a month for work stuff so we also get a lot of TP, tissues, paper towels, soap, etc from there in large quantities that is also stored in the basement pantry.

I will suggest if you do go out to buy a few staples that rice, dry beans, salt, and if you eat meat then maybe a couple of cans of meat/tuna. You could buy those noodles that have the flavor packs and maybe some canned fruit and apple sauce cups. And a water filter and/or gallons of water. These have decent shelf life and don't require refrigeration. You could put most of this in one of those under the bed storage boxes.

We always buy more in the winter, both in case of illness and snow/ice. We just got over the flu in our house so right now our pantry & fridge are quite low because we were using up that extra when no one wanted to go out to do regular weekly shopping. :) So now we need to restock. But just because that's our normal routine if we use up the extra winter food.

Nope, just our usual. I've always kept a well stocked pantry and freezers (upright and with fridge) so we could easily go 1-2 months at any given time (if we had to), but not buying anything special. We might not always have exactly 'what' we want, but we'd definitely have plenty balanced meals to prepare if we had to be quarantined.

Have noticed on youtube that there are plenty extreme hoarder preppers that have the mentality of 'the world is ending' but '
we'll be fine 'cause we are hoarding supplies! :confused3 :rolleyes1
Hate seeing them lead gullible people on.
