Anyone stockpiling food?

I will admit to full on prepping for my own household, as well as making a zombie apocalypse box of medicine and sanitizing supplies for my daughter and her boyfriend. We'll all get sick--I really don't think this can be contained--but at least we'll have cough drops and Gatorade. I basically bought what I thought it would take if everyone had the flu for 2 weeks at once and we were stuck, sick in the house.
No, we all are not going to get COVID-19.

I placed an order for SONO wipes from Amazon. They are on backorder. I have never seen that before.

Should you have a need for a disinfectant and there are no wipes available remember that hydrogen peroxide can be used as a substitute and is more cost effective. Useful in places you regularly spend time like office and home. The man mistakenly buys Lysol spray (don't ask...sigh) frequently and it's finally going to get used, LOL.

I really just want them for our trip in April. I would think they’ll come by then! Fingers crossed.

I do appreciate the tip, though. We bought a giant bottle for my husband to clean his surgery incision, so it’s nice to know we can get some use out of it.

Clorox makes hydrogen peroxide wipes that are hospital grade—I buy those because they kill Norovirus which regular Lysol and Clorox wipe does not. As of yesterday they were still on Amazon and even on sale! They come in a big tub but I just take some and put them in a ziplock for wiping down hotel room, cruise ship room, etc.

Nope, just our usual. I've always kept a well stocked pantry and freezers (upright and with fridge) so we could easily go 1-2 months at any given time (if we had to), but not buying anything special. We might not always have exactly 'what' we want, but we'd definitely have plenty balanced meals to prepare if we had to be quarantined.

Have noticed on youtube that there are plenty extreme hoarder preppers that have the mentality of 'the world is ending' but '
we'll be fine 'cause we are hoarding supplies! :confused3 :rolleyes1
Hate seeing them lead gullible people on.

I don't know the people you are talking about, but to say they are gullible is your opinion. I posted previously that my husband and I have a well organized supply of everything we need in case tshtf. But, I personally don't think we will ever be in an extreme situation. Some people just enjoy living "off the grid". We don't live off the grid-far from it. We both have regular jobs and I treat it as sort of a hobby-the prepping.

My husband has equipped us all with "bug out" back packs that have supplies to leave town on foot if necessary. He has had to replace items here or there in them because there have been times (traffic backed up at the tunnel in New Orleans for hours most recently) that I have had to use the water. It has water, protein bars, flares, lighter, matches, ponchos, emergency blanket, shoes, socks, flash light, 5 ft of cord, compass, glow sticks (in case of a rave ;) )

Funny you should mention that..my Mormon conscience has been nagging at me about my lack of food storage. Maybe because of all the coronavirus stuff? I'm planning a Sam's run for some water. Just in case anyone doesn't already know, 4 bottles of water is a day's worth for one adult person.

We do not stockpile like preppers, but try to keep extra supplies/full pantry. I just hate running back and forth to the grocery store

I’m curious about the water? Is there a reason to think running water would cease?

I’ve actually never seen shelves emptied before snowstorms around me. Sometimes I’ll even go to the grocery store during a blizzard thinking crowds will be light, to find out nope, it’s business as usual. Nobody seems to notice or care about the weather outside.
Where are you at? Common for snowy winters? I'm in PA where growing up we constantly had snow, 6-8-12 inch storms. Common to wake up as a kid with 6 inches of snow 2-3 times a week and still heading off to school.

Our winters has been mild for years lately. They sensationalize it on the news warning of our impending death with a 2 inch storm once a month lately.

Even back then, they would empty the shelves of milk and bread. Worked grocery back then in high school. Walmart wasn't around back then and we had 4 different grocery chains with multiple locations and they would be packed before snow was coming.

Now, we have Walmart and only 1 actual grocery store (2 locations) that is ~30-50% more expensive than Wallyworld. I can't afford the grocery store so I go to Walmart, but I can't tell if the shelves are empty as normal or because of our horrendous 2 inch storm coming. I don't know what's going on, I barely eat anything because I don't have food available as Walmart shelves are completely empty every time I go there. Before a snow storm, may as well just forget about buying food.

I’m in Toronto. Probably similar winters as you. Nothing shuts down during snowstorms. It’s just business as usual.

4 bottles of water is a drink for me, LOL.

I "LOL'ed" but also serious. My body is burning up internally. I find 65° sweltering if I'm not just sitting around. Some people don't drink any water, I down 3-4 gallons a day. Even watching TV in the evening, I have a 36 oz. Ozark Mountain insulated bottle that I down at least 3 of them through the evening. I need the ice water to keep my core temperature from burning me up. Wish I knew a way to fix that as I also tour on bicycle and I really suffer doing outside activity.

When I was displaced and sleeping at my mother's for 2 years after divorce a few years ago, the bedroom didn't have heat. It was 59° in the winter and overnight while sleeping, I would heat up the room 5-6°, LOL. Yes, even at 59°, I slept with a 16 inch pedestal floor fan blowing.

I really suffer at work. 115°+ at work. Even in the winter, this past week on night turn, 12° outside, 90° inside and the office/control room I am in and out of I have sweat pouring from me because a new girl is working the production equipment and she kept turning off the AC. I can't sit in an 80° room and work on a computer.

If you are on a well, if power goes out (and where we live it often does) you have no water. If I lived in town, I would have some extra water around in case of earthquakes, but for this latest hysteria I wouldn't think it would be necessary.

You don't think you'll ever be in an extreme situation, but your DH makes you use a 'bug out' backpack?

China never lost power or water during all of this, I think we will be fine! :D

I am stopping by our vet today to get another bag of Walnut's prescription dry food and order his meds (prednisolone and some liver meds) so we have enough. Hopefully after his check up next week we can actually stop the liver medication and reduce the pred, but just in case we will have a supply ready. He's what the two of us are most worried about! ❤

I'm also a south La girl and I understand the prudence of having emergency supplies at the ready especially with hurricanes and a certain amount of supplies on hand, but that was not what my post was about - it was about extreme hoarding! It imparts fear, not prudence and common sense. As for 'bug out' packs ---------not happening with us, but to each their own.

My grandma kept ginormous cans of food in the room on her back porch. She ate like a toddler but had 5lb cans of stuff I’d never seen her eat before. It baffled me. I mean if we’re going to go all Mad Max/Escape From New York presumably we’re not going to have water or power. What was she going to do once she opened that 5lb can of applesauce or pressed chicken? We live in Vegas, it’s not like she could set it in the snow to keep cold. She dutifully rotated it though and tried to pawn her older cans of glop on me then would get mad when I wouldn’t take it because it would go to waste. In the end after she passed, NO ONE would take it. Not even my cousins who advocate the two year prep plan.

i don't think it will be an issue either but if a household drinks exclusively bottled water it wouldn't be a bad idea to calculate how much would be needed to cover the 14 day quarantine period entire households w/a diagnosed case undergo b/c it's not like the diagnosis happens and medical staff gives you a window of time to run to the local grocery store to stock up w/provisions.

Every statement someone makes doesn't need to be dissected, debated and corrected.

Someone made a post about why people are buying water. I inferred that people are fearing water would unavailable. So I said China didn't lose power or water. That's all.

Sorry, but sometimes it feels as if posters need to debate everything or are contrarian just to be contrarian and it's exhausting (which is my own fault as sometimes I follow them down that rabbit hole when I should just ignore it)! :D (Not you specifically)
