We are only planning on going everyother year and were going to stay 6 days. We were thinking of BWV for 3 days and SS for 3 days. Do you all think it will be too much of a pain and not worth the midway move? We will have a 4,6,8 year old at the time. If we pack up will they (Disney, not the 4,6 and 8 year old) do the move for us so we do not have to wait around all day? Is it worth the trouble?

I almost did exactly that--3 nights BWV and 3 nights SSR. Fortunately BWV had a room available for the night we added on 60 days notice, so we don't have to move.

I wouldn't have minded so much if our kids weren't so young. We go back to the room every afternoon for a nap. When you move, you probably will not have a room from 11am to 4pm--from the time you have to check out of one resort to the time you have to check into another resort. And, even if you get into your second resort earlier than 4pm, I've been told they probably will not have your luggage moved until after 4pm.

If you don't need a room from 11-4, then it probably won't impact you much at all. Call the bellman to get your bags at resort #1, and let him know that you need them transported to resort #2. When you arrive at resort #2, call and see if they can deliver the bags to your room. In theory, it should be pretty seamless.

Is it easy though to check in, I keep reading horror stories about check in? Do the people whose flights arive a lot earlier get better room availability?

I didn't realize that you could arrange for you luggage to be moved from one resort to the other. That makes it nice if you don't plan to have a rental car for the entire trip.

Thanks for that tidbit of info...

We've never waited more than 10 minutes in line to get to the desk. DVC resorts are a lot smaller than the mammoth All Stars and Pop Century that have over 3000 rooms each.

Disney resorts use two different systems to assign rooms. At times (usually high-occupancy times) rooms are pre-assigned. Before you even arrive, a room has been set aside that hopefully meets all of your requests. If the room is not ready when you arrive, you will be given your keys and a phone number to call later. When you call, if the room has been released by houskeeping, they will give you the room number and you can enter at any time after that.

Other times they use a system called Room Ready. Under Room Ready, whenever you arrive at the desk, the CM will give you one or more options that meet your reserved room type which are clean and ready to go, and you can basically choose the exact unit you want. This worked very well for us when we arrived at Saratoga Springs last December. The CM had three rooms that were available, showed us all three on a map, and we picked the one that we wanted. At 10:30am we were in our room and starting to unpack.

Under Room Ready, there is a chance that those arriving very late in the day will get the least desirable of the rooms. You really can't tell in advance which system the resort will be using. Most people here advocate at least checking-in at the resort as early in the day as possible.

Is it possible to go directly to the 2nd resort first thing in the am without your luggage, and do the whole room thing and go back at 4:00 hopefully with your luggage in the new room? Would they call you if it is ready early?

Absolutely you can go there early and check in. Better yet, just send one person. Without a car, to get from one resort to another you basically have to pass through a theme park. Ride with the family to the theme park and then have one adult (whose name is listed on the reservation) hop on a second bus to get to the resort. Complete the check-in process and then meet-up with the rest of your group.

They won't call you when the room is ready--you have to call yourself. They give you a phone number you can call periodically from a cell phone. If it is not yet 4pm you may have to call several times before you find that the room is ready. Once it's ready they will give you the room number and your keys will magically work when you get to the door. No more stops at the front desk.

When you get to your room, call the bellman and see if your bags have arrived from the other resort. If so, they should deliver to your room shortly. Don't forget to tip!

In fact, we'll be doing just that this May. We added on an extra night at the beginning of our trip (NOT for early check-in; because of flight costs) and we decided to try a night a VWL before our 6 nights at SSR. Now we're going to have a rental car, so we'll bypass Disney moving our luggage, but we'll check out of VWL, drive over to SSR, check in, leave our car & bags there, then head out for the day.

tjkraz is right on the money. we do exactly that on almost every trip. even with 2 small children (ages 2 and 6 months) we have found the move process to be painless! we move from a non-dvc the first one or two nights to the BWV.

this Aug we're booked at Pop for 5nights then WL for 3nights then BCV for 6nights so yes if you count those 3nights WL and 3 (of the 6) nights at BCV thats 2 resorts within 6 days - lol

what about any food, it the fridge, do they move that too, or do you have to go grocery shopping again?
