I am entering my final year of school for Vascular ultrasound, and I have just finished a clinical rotation where I have decided I really want to work when I graduate (next May).

However, because our college is in town, this whole vicinity is flooded with vascular students and it is really competetive to get a job... some would say cut-throat. One of the employees at the place I want to work suggested that I complete my resume now and send out it now!

My question: is this appropriate and is it normal? Obviously I haven't graduated yet, but I have had a high GPA and earned a scholarship, etc. These are things I could put on resume, including my clinical experience. But should I? How would the cover letter read??

TIA ~Danielle

Hey there...

Granted, I'm in the entertainment industy which is a far cry from anything medical, but I would assume some things are general practice. As long as you put in your Education Section of your resume your expected graduation/degree date and a few strong references, you should be free to apply now.

Because it is so early, I would be honest in my cover letter and say that you are writing to express interest in employment with their company upon graduation. Just seel yourself, honestly, and optimistically and you will be on the right track. I'd talk to some of your supervisors/professors and such and get resume/application tips from them.

These people are invaluable to building strong resumes! Good Luck!

I am searching too, but since my goals are designing for Disney and being a professional Magicienne...I'm trying for the CP in the spring and PI in the fall probably...from there, who knows :)

I've been working on my resume for a few years now (a resume is never done). I'm only a 2nd year college freshmen but I would say go to your school's career center (if you have one) and see what they think. I know that in highschool, I put the following:
Education 2000 – Present ----- ---- Regional High School ----, MA

High School Deploma Candidate, 2005

and that worked out fine. Most people say that it's good to get a foot in the door. You may even want to call and talk to someone at the place you'll be applying. There a lot more ways to impress a company than with a resume. Know their policies, know their mission statement, and know everything else that you can and play yourself off as being their perfect fit (without reading off their official company sheets of course).

I hope this helps!
