Anyone start with just a 50 point resale?

My son started with a 25 pt resale. We have 300 pts so I told him not worry about buying any more points because between us we can go twice a year, and his resale purchase entitles his family to all the DVC perks like discounted annual passes!

Hi neighbor!! We live just south of Pearland (west of 288).

Thanks for all the input, guys-- now I just need to work on DH. Here's my three year plan: Fall 2010-- Free dining trip, stay in a value (maybe take the DVC tour). December 2011-- Rent DVC points for a week's stay (I'm thinking AKV) and be able to see all the Christmas decorations (DH LOVES Christmas!). 2012-- Hopefully DH will be convinced to buy! DH will just shake his head :sad2: when I tell him about all my scheming-- I'm glad he puts up with me  --Katie

i started with 40, actually.

it's worked well for a few years - i would definitely recommend it as a way to start off.

staying at OKW for 8 pts a night was a tremendous deal. i like the 2 queen bed setup at OKW studios and enjoy the relaxed vibe of the resort. (they seriously need to upgrade the tvs though - very sad for a semi-deluxe resort.)

i was fortunate to get a value room at AKV for a few nights last year by waitlisting at the 7 month window - BUT if you are determined to stay in a value room, you should plan on buying at AKV and booking at 11 months. there are not very many of them - and the number of AKV owners is increasing daily. (value studios are pretty small BTW.)

the one-two punch of 1) the change in 2010 pt charts and 2) the opening of BLT has forced me toward addonitis. i went ahead and booked a stay at BLT this year, so next year, i'll either have to add-on or else look at alternatives (transfers or paying cash)...it's a fun problem to have. :)

We started small as well. We bought a 30 pt BWV last year just to get our foot in the door. We then bought a 30 pt add on, so we're up to 60 pts. Now we put any extra money that comes along (not that there's a whole of that these days) aside and will add 25 to 30 pts at a time as we can afford it.

We started with 100 points, and it was actually a little bit too much for us at first. We were not used to going on fabulous trips so often.

We are a couple, can stay in off season, and don't mind studios.

We are addicted now. We are supplementing our love for Disney with Annual Pass 40% off rates. As the economy improves, we will probably buy more DVC points.

I've wanted to go back to POR for awhile now, and $89/nt. sounds just right.

I started off with 80 HHI. That was what I had enough $$ to pay for. It was the best way to start. I did add on 50 BWV later on. I think it is a great way to start. :)

That's exactly how I started Katie. 50 BWV with a December use year.

My daughter and I went for 5 nights - 2 @ AKV and 3 with a BW view @ BWV.

We were hooked. After we came home and could afford it we bought 30 more at BWV - September use year, 30 at AKV - June use year and added 40 at BLT for the June and September contracts.

We are going to step up our vacations until she gets out of high school in 6 years and then sell off a couple of the contracts.

It is a great product, very flexible and an incredible return on investment.

With so many small contracts and so many use years don't you get confused? It would have been different in the olden days when you could transfer in and out at when you felt like it but these days there is only one transfer per year. How do you do all the bookkeeping? How do you reserve anything with so few points in each resort? How do you keep them all straight? Do you use a spread sheet? I am intrigued. :confused3

I own 50 points at BWV and so far it has worked out great for me. The majority of my vacations are solo, so a studio is all I need right now. Plus, I don't feel trapped by my points. I don't think I will ever find myself in the position of not being able to use them all!

I started with a 25 point resale at VWL. My plan was to go every three years by banking and boroowing since we usually go in the slow season. Friday .... I caught addonitis and bought 50 points at BLT. I didn't want to miss out on the price per point reduction!

We will probably be buying between 50-100 points just to get started. We know we will need more eventually, but we want to pay cash. My husband would like to wait until next year so we can save and buy more points at once. But I want it YESTERDAY! I think that with borrowing I can do the vacation I want for at least a few years until we're in a position to buy more. That way we can make sure DVC is right for us without making a huge investment now. Plus, I already think I will want to add on a few small contracts at other resorts- each has such great things to offer! I think DVC is great because you can try out the other resorts too (yes, I know it is dependent on availablity). We have our hearts set on VWL and will be buying there to start with.

No problems at all. I use caskbills tracker.

BTW - Get well soon Bill.

I started out with 60 points. It has worked out well for me. I've even rented out points a couple of times.

There are many customers of ours (@ TSS) who start their DVC Memberships with small packages such as 50 points. A small contract is a good way to get a feel for the program while keeping your costs down. After using the package several times you can determining if you need more points, if so you can always add on. :yay:

We started with a 30 point resale at SSR thru TSS.

Then added 50 thru DVC.

We have taken 5 very nice trips on those points.

Now we are thinking about adding another 125 at AKL and selling the contracts at SSR.

Good Luck!
