We can only stay three nights, and I want to stay at the Poly mainly for convenience. Family wants AKL for atmosphere. Has anyone actually split such a short stay? How did it work out? We have kids 4 & 10, and will be coming off a 7 day cruise. Would we be getting the most out of either one by only staying either one or two nights?

I would recommend picking one resort for such a short stay. It may be too much moving around with the kids and all.

For three nights I would not split either especially coming after a Cruise

Thanks
Jason

Here's another vote for staying put.... I would suggest the AKL!!!! It's fantastic.

We have done it both ways. Its fun to split if you want to try a resort that you have never tried before.

Splitting is Awesome...but in your case I would probably stay put. I wouldn't split for less than 2 nights at each resort. Truthfully, I think you really need 3 nights at a resort to get everything out of it. Otherwise, unless you know the resort very well, you are switching just as you get comfortable.

We did two nights at AKL after a 7 day cruise last fall. Let me tell you, when you hit WDW, you will want to recuperate for a couple of days. There's so much to do on the ship we needed to just relax and catch up on sleep. When you change resorts, you don't usually have a "home" from when you leave in the a.m. until you get your room at 4 pm or so. Makes it hard to take a nap or even go to a pool. I'd stick with one. I would also stay put for 3 nights, especially after a 7 day cruise. You will be surprised at how exhausted you will be and you will want to relax. Splitting resorts is usually great, but in this case I think you will be happy to stay put!!
Enjoy!

I was afraid of this, not what I wanted to hear, but I appreciate the advice. I'll never get to the Poly at this rate! I'm one of these people that can't make up her mind. I am sure everyone is right, that I wouldn't be getting to see enough of either resort to really enjoy myself. We'll stick to AKL!

We have split several stays, but always because we could not get the hotel we wanted for the whole time. We once split a 6 night (3 at ASMU, 3 at Contemporary) because we were booking just a couple of days before we wanted to arrive. We split a 3 night stays (1 at ASMu, 2 at CSR) because we wanted to stay with friends at CSR and did not book until just prior to their coming. And we once split a 2 night stay (1 at POFQ and 1 at AKL) because we were altering the booking late. It was not much of a hassle for us, but we went into it with no expectation of entering a park the morning of the switch. Since you are talking about the AKL I will tell you what we did when we split with POFQ and AKL. It was December 2002. We had tickets for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Our plan was to arrive Saturday am and go to the Animal Kingdom, then check into the AKL around 3, and make our way to the Magic Kingdom for MVMCP. However, our tickets were really for Friday night, and I had made a mistake with the booking. We could not get another night at AKL so I took POFQ, which is a very nice resort. We arrived at POFQ Friday afternoon and spent very little time there before going to MVMCP. We slept in Saturday, as we were tired from being out late the night before, had a nice breakfast at the food court, and then packed up and moved to AKL around 11am. Our room was not ready, so we spent a couple of hours in the Animal Kingdom, and then enjoyed the resort (which has tons of porches and viewing areas. We had dinner reservations at Boma that night, so when our room was ready, we just had our luggage delivered to the room, got ready for dinner and went downstairs to Boma. After dinner we went to MGM to watch the festival of lights. On Sunday we at breakfast at Boma, checked out and went to Epcot. It was a great weekend. It sounds hectic, but it actually was kind of relaxing to not spend a lot of time in the parks on Saturday and enjoy just hangin out together.

I guess the short moral to my long story is....don't be scared to split a short stay, just understand that your day will be somewhat wrapped up in the move. :) ;) :D

PS - my kids are currently 3.5 and 7

I agree with staying put.

On a 3 day stay even at one place, you are checking in one day, have one full day to enjoy and checking out the 3rd day.

Dividing that among 2 resorts would never be worth it to me.

I was afraid of this, not what I wanted to hear, but I appreciate the advice.

If you really want to try Poly...do it. Just don't do too much unpacking. What's the worst thing that could happen...nothing really...just the moving.

Enjoy...have fun! Do what will make you feel happy...It's Disney!

I hope this is what you wanted to hear... ;) ;)
