Anyone purchase through a resale?

After renting points twice, OKW and VB, we definitely decided that DVC properties are best for our family. After eating out for a whole week, you can definitely see where you can save money cooking in if you do not mind.

We just spent the most amazing week at Vero Beach. I was very happy to see that my husband was interested in a DVC membership. I of course wanted to check all outlets before pulling the trigger.

Has anyone on here bought through resale or the Timeshare Store? Any advice I need to look out for? I am trying to figure out the ideal amount of points to buy. Is there a way to purchase more later on or is it best to borrow?

I am looking right now at points charts for 1 bedroom villas.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

Chrissy

We purchased a resale through The Timeshare Store and everything went very smoothly; no regrets what so ever! As far as the number of points you may need - you never have enough, that's why many people add on at a later date!

Good luck with your purchase! :goodvibes

Just finished buying our 200 SSR contract with Jaki and **** through **********.com. They were great and everything went smoothly. We bought enough to go every other year as a family and a trip for DH and myself every 4 years. Look at the point charts and calculate when/where you will most likely stay and then average them. I planned out our next 3 vacations, took the point totals and then figured out what we would need. Hopefully my calculations are right, or maybe we'll have to do an add on!

i had a great experience with the timeshare store and would recommend them highly.

watch out for stripped contracts (which don't have banked points or points currently available). if you can find a contract with banked pts, even better.

not sure if you've considered what use year to look for - it mostly becomes an issue only if you need to cancel so it's best not to travel in the last 3 or so months of your use year (i have an oct UY and would rarely travel in july-aug-sept, for example).

more info on use year is here if you need it:

as the other poster said, adding on later is pretty easy. you can look for another resale (ideally with the same use year) or else just call disney and pay higher prices (but with no closing costs for add-ons) and get your points quickly and add-on exactly what you want...25 pts, 31 pts, 57 pts...whatever.

if you buy too many, you can't sell part of a contract so it's probably better to start a little low...then borrow if you need to and buy more later when you run out of borrowed pts...:)

The Timeshare Store is Great! We bought our initial contract through them at BCV. We added on at BLT through Disney last year. We're currently in the process of adding on at SSR through the Timeshare Store.
The Timeshare Store has great info on their site.
Good Luck!

We bought our 1st contract through the TimeShare store and then did a small add-on through Disney. The TimeShare store people are great and walk you through the whole thing.

As for number or points, the decision is how often you plan to go. If you are planning on going every 2 years, then buy 1/2 the number needed and you can bank and use the current use year. If you plan on going every year, then you need enough points to cover. Also, if you plan on going a week, Disney can alter the number of points on the point chart. So, if you bought a 100 points, the vacation next year could cost 105. That was why we did the add on.

TSS was fantastic! They answered all my questions more so then dvc guide. As stated above look for a decent contract with at least current year points. We got all 2009 banked points, and all current UY points with our contract and ended up paying 4100.00 less then what dvc wanted for the exact same contract, and to think we almost bought it thru dvc!
Good luck

Original purchase through Disney. Just completed add on w/ TSS. Solid. Good follow through and communication.

Only issue was delay on the sellers end.

Saved a lot of money for the extra work of finding the right contract.

This was one thing our Disney guide misled us on. She claimed that the points do not change from year to year, but that the maintenance fees could. When I took a look at the 2011 point charts, I realized how wrong this information was, as the points needed had already gone up. Historically, can anyone tell me how often the points go up... and if the change is typically small or drastic?

we used tss and they were excellent. i am in canada and was a bit worried but they were great. I am hoping to do an add on soon with them.

My only regret is that I originally wanted to buy 150 points but a good price came up for a 100 pt contract with banked points...I was excited and I bought it. Now I have to play the waiting game on my etra 50 pts to match my use year....so don't get excited like I did...wait out for what you really want.

DVC can move points around from day to day or week to week, but the total points in the calendar year remain the same. They have shifted points required from weekends to weekdays in 2010 and 2011 point charts. This is the 1st in a long time for them to make changes.
Keep in mind that seasons(Adventure, Choice, Dream, etc.) can change based on where Holidays fall in a given year.

This is GREAT news. It puts my mind at ease. Thanks!

We purchased a 250 point resale thru TTS and the process was flawless! There was great communication during the entire process. It was less then 6 weeks from the time we offered and when the points were in our DVC account!

We just closed on our first resale a few weeks ago. Went through Jaki and **** at **********.com. They were wonderful and the process was smooth but SLOW. Plan on 6-8weeks, but the $$ you save is worth every bit of time waiting :) Now I am waiting for the months to pass for my first trip "home" this Sept :goodvibes

This website has been the most helpful in my DVC research. I have learned so much about the point system, the resorts, the 11month and 7month reservation windows, ect. Keep reading, find a contract that looks right to you and go for it!

TSS was great. We worked with Scot. Bought 2 contracts through him. No problems. Would do it again.

I bought resale through Jaki and it was smooth sailing. I could never have afforded DVC through Disney. I looked for a while for what I was willing to pay per point and I found a contract with a whole years worth of points banked so the 1st year we bagged a GV for our 1st Disney family reunion. I constantly fight the urge to add on!

I used Jaki and **** at **********.com. They were great and everything was very smooth. I would highly recommend them. If you want 100 point of less the closing will be cheaper at the timshare store.

Has anyone used DVCbyresale.com? The add-on I'm looking for isn't available via the other two sites I see listed in this thread.

Ah, thanks for the info. I see we crossposted in the threads. I asked if you had used DVCbyresale in another thread while you were posting the info here! =)
