Anyone painted kitchen cabinets?

ME!!

Our cupboards were the original when we bought the house. My father almost had a heart attack because we painted over the "beautiful wood".

We had to strip all of the varnish off, and clean up all the grease.

At Ace Hardware they have specific paint for wood cabinets. It is very very strong and durable. We have not had it chip yet, and we painted about 3 years ago. We painted it "almond".

I got our cabinet pulls at Home Depot. I love the way they look. Very classy.

The entire transformation took a little over a week to do on my own. DH said that it was MY thing.

It was tough but so worth it! I love the way we modernized it.

We did :

Cabinet paint, new door/drawer pulls, and new hinges.

I think it cost around $150 for everything, including cleaning materials, brushes, sandpaper, paint, pulls, hinges, etc.

I would do it again in a heartbeat!!

Your's (the before pic) look a heck of alot better than my crappy cabinets. Especially the one where they haphazardly fitted doors on where a dishwasher once was... :scared:

Mine just need to be replaced as soon as I gets enough money. My formica countertop's pressed wood underlayer has water damage from a spray from the pipe before it was able to get fixed...

Mine are either a dark wood or dark stain with some stickered pics of flowers and such on them.. UGLY.

I did ours in our last house. I lightly sanded and then primed. I did three coats of enamel, lightly sanding between coats one and two.

Don't do it.
we have oak cabinet, that I was sick of and I had hubby paint them white.
big mistake. they do look nice when they are clean, but they show everything, and i could spend every day trying to keep them clean looking.
I was just asking hubby if he can repaint them a different color, I wish I had just left them alone.

You don't have to do all that prep work anymore. I just painted with a primer that didn't call for sanding. Then painted white over it. DH built new beadboard doors.

It's not one of those $60,000 kitchens, but then again, we only paid about $6,000 for a new kitchen, including floors, countertops, a kitchen island and new applicances.

I did ours because I wanted to modernize.

DH and I wanted a newer looking kitchen (minus the circa 1960's countertops that we still have not replaced). We wanted something that looked more current and modern.

Our next-door neighbors loved the look of it! They kept swearing that our kitchen was bigger than theirs, even though the last 4 houses on this block (ours and theirs included) are the exact same floor plan. I told them it is because the paint made it brighter.

I absolutely love the way it turned out. It looks modern, and the paint is so easy to clean. Just a quick wipe down with a rag or a lysol wipe and it is clean as it was the day I painted.

This isnt the best picture but its what I found for now. The cabinets arent that dark and you cant see the glaze that much it just really took to the camera apparently
