We fly back home from WDW on Friday the 13th- we could not get a Saturday or Sunday flight.

Anyone ever get nervous about the date ?

Am I being over reactive ?:upsidedow

Well, I'm not going to be able to talk you out of your superstitions.

That said, just realize that there are no more airline mishaps (or car accidents or slip-and-fall injuries or boogeyman sightings) on Friday the 13th than there are on any other Friday or any other day that falls on the 13th or any other day of the year.

Unless, of course, a black cat who just walked under a ladder stows away on a plane that happens to have a broken mirror, a huge salt spill in the galley, and a bunch of open umbrellas.:lmao:

I've flown on many a Friday the 13th; also on many of the September 11th's since 2001.

I was in DC 2 days after 9/11; in DC during the sniper shootings and the anthrax scare. I was on the runway in Munich during the 1972 Olympic hostage taking.

Still here and still flying 100,000+ miles a year.

We flew on Friday October 13 and lived to tell about it. As a matter of fact, we left PHL at 7am and we were IN Universal Studios by 12:30pm, it was a GREAT flight, NO problems at all. I will say I am superstitious, but going to Disney outweighs them:rotfl:

Thanks ! The plne has no seats left - so I guess the 13th does not bother anyone else. I will be doing my prayers for a safe flight :worship:

I've also had countless aborted landings and takeoffs, flown in hurricane force winds (took off last week in 70 mph wind - that was fun), flown into/out of near blizzard conditions, etc etc etc.

Flying is still the safest way to go

August 13, 2004..Friday. No big deal unless you count Hurricane Charley arriving 6 hrs. later. I believe we were one of the last flights allowed to land that day!! Other than that, no problems whatsoever.

The only scare I ever had in an airliner was approaching Indianapolis, our plane sharply pulled up when we were just a few seconds from landing. We closely circled the airport, and flew past the control tower four times.

I'd guess I'd seen too many TV shows and movies, and hypothesized that in the cockpit they got a warning light indicating that not all of the landing gear were deployed and locked, and we were repeatedly passing by the control tower for visual inspections. It was the scariest landing of my life. But a totally successful one.

It was a Friday all right, but it wasn't the 13th.

We flew on Friday, January 13, 2006 from Detroit to Midway in Chicago. This was like a month after the Southwest plane slid off the runway at Midway and crashed into at least one car. My oldest brother kept harrassing me about flying on Friday the 13th and into Midway. I wasn't nervous for that reason, but more nervous about it being my first time flying. It went without any problems. I'm a superstitious person when it comes to my sports, but I don't really have any problems with Friday the 13th.

I hope you have a great flight!

landing at O'Hare in a snowstorm; landing aborted as we were almost on the ground as another plane was landing on the same runway, coming from the other direction :scared1:

Anyone ever get nervous about the date ?
No. There's no more or less reason to be nervous about the 13th than any other day. BTW, Friday the 13th has always been a "lucky" day for my wife! She likes them. In many cultures "13" is lucky. Also, in other cultures even numbers are considered "unlucky", so I guess you're lucky that you were born in a country where you only have to get freaked out about one day a month and only if it happens to fall on a Friday!!!

Am I being over reactive ?
Yes.

This post made me smile. I have never been overly superstitious, but have always avoided traveling on the 13th, Friday or not. This past trip, I finally realized that thousands and thousands of planes have taken off and landed safely on the 13th, so I scheduled our return flight from Orlando on the 13th of January. We even sat in row 13. We were on our plane ready for takeoff, when the pilot came on and said there had been a security breech at the airport and we all had to leave the plane and go back through security. (one of my sons had already fallen asleep on the plane). A few hours later after the whole airport went through security again, we couldn't take off because one of the flight crew was out of hours and could not fly any more. We had to wait about two more hours for another plane to come in and one of that crew to fly out on our flight. I'm not sure if we actually took off on the 13th or if it was the 14th by then-it was close. We did arrive home safely, and I know it could have been much worse, but I will probably not schedule another flight for the 13th.

I had a very similar thing happen to me (minus the security breach) on the 2nd of August one time. I ended up being stranded overnight and to make things worse the gate agent in my departing airport took the wrong ticket so the next day the airline wasn't so sure they were going to let me fly home on the second flight! So, I'd recommend you avoid the 2nd too! :)

We're flying home from Tampa on Friday the 13th this year. We are actually hoping for good luck that day. We are hoping to get bumped from our flight so we can get a free trip out of the airline! Wish us luck! Hope everyone has safe travel that day!:thumbsup2

Unless you board the plane and see a huge hulk of a guy wearing a hockey mask, clutching a machete and oggling nubile half nekkid chicks, you'll be just fine!

If it helps, we did it this past year (Friday, Oct. 13, 2006) going TO Orlando to catch a cruise. Not only was everything fine, we actually made it to the hotel at the port about 2 hours ahead of when I thought we would.
