Anyone make soap??? Help please

My dd and I are going to attempt to make some homemade soaps. Is there anything you can use to scent the soaps other than the oils/scents that they sell at the craft stores? Can you use candle scents or food (like peppermint oil)?

They did not have a large selection and I don't have time to order from online. Any help would be appreciated!

I saw this way too late, but wanted to answer, should the situation come up again.

You can use essential/aromatherapy oils from the drug store or health food store. In those sales situations, they may be more expensive than you want for this project, though. Things like peppermint or tea tree go well together, along with lavender. That is one of my favorite blends.
