Anyone know if they will let you opt out of the plastic bucket that comes with the kids meal?

A year or two ago I ordered kids meals at Restaurantosaurus and asked to decline the plastic bucket. I was told, by an annoyed cast member, that they did not have that option. I thought, since they were supposed to be the most environmentally conscious of the parks, that she was mistaken but she insisted that you had to take it. This seems a bit hypocritical, uneconomical ($$$upcharge$$$) and inconvenient. So they don’t provide lids and utilize paper straws but don’t allow you to decline a plastic bucket and shovel? I’m not the only parent who believes carrying sand pails around a theme park is silly because we saw several in the trash. I’ve haven’t been back to that restaurant but was hoping that they had since changed that policy. Anyone know?:confused3

The reason they don't give you plastic straws is because they can end up in the animals' enclosures and cause serious issues with the animals. It just happened to be good for the environment as well, but that wasn't their first reason for doing so. But I agree with you, it seems like a waste of money because no one wants to lug around a giant pail (or multiple!) through the park. I don't know if that policy's changed, but you could always try asking again if you return. I find things can be inconsistent between CM's at times.

They should let you opt out. We often travel with several children, I can't imagine carrying 5 pails and shovels through the park. Most kids I know would not want to throw it out which would be a waste.

My guess would be that you could normally opt out. You probably just encountered a CM having a bad day.

If you're on the dining plan you could just order an adult meal since the QS meal credits don't differentiate between the adult plan and child plan....more food, and no bucket :D

Thanks all:thanks: I’m hoping it was just an uninformed cast member because it seems like a dumb policy. Restaurantosaurus used to be my favorite quick service at AK but I’ve been avoiding it. Even if I didn’t care about the extra plastic and inconvenience of carrying them around, they charge a couple dollars more for the same meal you could get elsewhere. We are passholders and go pretty frequently so we already have plenty. If I’m going to buy another pail, I prefer to have it full of ice cream at the water parks. :sunny:
